Yeh hamari Rai hai....

Telly actors give their two cents worth on whether Aishwarya should remain Rai or change her surname to Bachchan post marriage

What will Aishwarya's name be credited as in Ashutosh Gowariker's Jodha Akbar?

Aishwarya Rai or Aishwarya Bachchan (since she'll be blissfully married to Abhishek by the time the film rolls into theatres)?

TV actresses tell it like it is.

Keerti Kelkar Gaiekwad

I am really close to both my last names, that's the reason why I prefer to use both of them.

I think it's important for a woman to respect the family she's coming from while going to a new family.

I love my father as well as my husband, Sharad.

That's the reason why I've kept both my last names.

Meri Rai: I would love to see her as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on screen. It sounds very royal.
Shweta Kawaatra

I would love to take on Manav's (Gohil, her husband) last name in the near future.

Shweta Kawaatra Gohil sounds really good.

However, I think retaining or changing one's last name is a personal choice.

I haven't changed mine because I wanted to retain my identity.

Meri Rai: I think it's up to Ash to decide what she wants to do.

I am sure she has more important things on her mind than wondering what to do with her last name!
Tassnim Sheikh

I think marriage is just an extension of the journey of life.

It depends on what kind of person you are, to decide whether to change or keep your last name.

Meri Rai: Whether Ash keeps Rai or changes her last name to Bachchan won't make much of a difference.

She's already a superstar and will still be hugely popular after marriage.

Though it would be nice to see her as Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan.
Tanaaz Lal

It depends on your age and what stage of life you are in. For me, it's just a progression to now be known as Tanaaz Irani.

I've been using my maiden surname Lal for quite some time now (she was earlier married to theatre personality Farhad Currim).

It doesn't make any difference to my work what my last name is. I think it's a personal decision.

Meri Rai: I think Ash has a really short last name, so it would be nice if she went with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

However, Aishwarya Bachchan sounds equally nice and both she and Abhi will have the same initials!
Gouri Tonkk

I don't think it is necessary for a girl to change her last name after marriage.

I changed my name because of numerological reasons.

If I change my last name, I think Yash (Tonkk, her husband) should also change his!

Why is it only compulsory for women to do this?

I am against this idea.

As long as Aishwarya and Abhishek are happily married, it doesn't matter what her last name is.

It's her personal life and her own choice
Mansi Joshi Roy

I think a woman should retain her identity even after marriage.

I decided to go with Joshi-Roy because I didn't want to part with my relations or my parents' name.

Since my father is also an actor, I wanted to make him proud every time he saw my name on screen.

Meri Rai: I think that's a personal decision as to which last name she wants to go with.

I guess in a couple of days we will find out!
Chhavi Hussein

I haven't yet legally changed my last name from Mittal to Hussein, but I prefer using Hussein.

I think it's quite romantic using a Hindu first name and a Muslim last name.

It signifies the fact that we are in love and have decided to spend our lives together.

Meri Rai: It really doesn't matter what last name Ash embraces.

She is popular all around the world, so by becoming Aishwarya Bachchan, she won't lose her identity.
Archana Puran Singh

I don't believe in the ritual of a woman changing her last name after marriage.

Why should she give up her equity and everything she's worked so hard for because of a wedding?

I think it's ridiculous for anyone to give up a name they've grown up with, especially if you're a celebrity.

Your name's like your brand equity.

Meri Rai: I think Bachchan is a powerful last name and a big brand, so maybe in this case, it might be beneficial for Aishwarya to change her last name.
Sai Deodhar

I think it's a very small issue and totally subjective.

Personally I tried using Sai Anand as my name but all my paperwork and everyone in the industry knows me as Sai Deodhar.

Since Shakti isn't the sort who would make too much noise over a last name, I am quite happy using Sai Deodhar as my name as an actor.

Meri Rai: I think she should keep Rai as her maiden name and add Bachchan to it. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is a really classy name and will suit her well.
Maaninee Misshra

It's very flattering for the husband if his wife takes on his last name, but I believe to each his own.

In this era of bra burning and women's emancipation, there will be some women who will choose to keep their maiden names.

I'm personally thrilled to take on my husband Mihir's last name as I feel it's a natural transition for me.

Meri Rai: Business-wise, Aishwarya Rai would make sense, but Bachchan is a heavyweight brand so she won't be able to resist taking it on as well.
