Sindoor Inside out! Read this and tell me

I've been watching Sindoor TNK ever since it came in the U.S. Although I haven't been really watching it now since I am visiting families who don't have zee TV, I've still been reading the synopsis through this forum. I'd just like to say thanks those who are taking their personal time posting synopsis to those unfortunate people (LIKE MY SELF) who have no way of viewing the show!

I think Sindoor is a fascinating show that deals with the typical subject of 'family' in the typical Indian and Indian tele serials. But what I like most is that it zooms into a specific issue. Unlike other serials, which have broader and complicating issues circulating such as focusing on different characters and trying to entwine it together to give the audience a general notion of what the serial is trying to portray. But for people like me, I don't like to get bored and confused about issues dealing with so many characters and trying to figure out the main point. Yes it's "interesting" and more "broad" and more "real" but serials like that can also get the people the notion of thinking that its too complicating and too "yada yada yada" dragging on. I like the fact that Sindoor is so focused on showing issues only of the main characters (VEDIKA, NIHARIKA) and their marital issues.

I like Sindoor for the story it deals with, but there is more about Sindoor that I don't like!

I think Sindoor gets cheesy at time to time. I know that Indian people like cheesy emotional serials, but come on Indian serials need to try to make their serials more real, so real people can actually understand it. I mean look at serials like in the U.S, like General Hospital, The Bold and The Beautiful, All My Children etc, most of them have been going on for like twenty five years or so and my grandma is still hooked on it since twenty years till now! Now that is some loyal viewer! If US serials became like Indian serial god, I know defiantly there will be one depressed viewer! J

Okay I went off topic but what I am trying to say is that Sindoor is still cheesy and full of emotional crap. I don't think you have to make everything so over symbolic and over emotional to send out a message to the viewers. South Asian people are not dumb, we can understand that if you are unsure if you want to leave your new husband and new family or to go back to them, you do not need to rush to a temple and scream and blame god, and have then after ranting your brains off to god, you ask Kali ma to make her decide and then have off the music build up and then suddenly KALI MA opens her eyes and then throws Sindoor at your forehead. And then suddenly you have this Deer caught on headlight look on your face and then you go "maa, yeh tune kya kiya!" I MEAN GIVE ME A BREAK. Over dramatic crap! There are other ways of sending the same message. It kind of kills the whole reality (or trying to make a reality) of the show. I found that example a classic in Sindoor. There are other over dramatic stuff with Dhruv and other people of the Raizada family.

Besides the whole cheesiness, there are other things that bother me. I like the part that every episode something new happens that make you think Niharika will get caught, but I hate the part that she doesn't. It's like so frustrating. I also find it so weird that every new person you meet is somehow connected to the Raizada family like the cop. Come on they could at least make it a little bit more creative!

In all Indian serials the bad person never gets caught, its always the poor, suffering heroine of the serial or the hero whos in trouble and ya it does get corny from time to time but thats what indian serials are like and all about.😊 😊

I agree with isha_dee2.
I like the serials and all, but sometimes I just read the updates and don't even bother watching the show when it airs when the storyline gets crappy (we R abt 4 wks behind India).

Even though I read the updates and no wat is comin next, I still get annoyed when I actually view the nonsense.

Wat I hate esplly, is this:
Couple is married,
newbie comes on and decides she wants the husband,
She defames the wife in the eyes of the husband who stupidly believes everything this newcomer says
OR
she blackmails him into marrying her and divorcing his wife of how many years
Newbie always, always wins
AND KEEPS SCHEMING AND WINNING FOR A LONG LONG TIME!

Quite frankly, I for 1 am tired of this storyline. It's in almost all the serials and I believe writers have far more imaginations to come up with better and more interesting plots.

Why can't the wives be on the winning side for a change?

Indian serials can't be compared to western soaps... I watch a bunch of them Bold and The Beautiful, Y&R, All my Children, and of course Days....

I like the fact the they are from two different worlds..... I can't imagine watching an Indian soap where one person has slept with every member of the family and has a kid with each one and two three years laters every child is grown up and now are sleeping with each other, because you know they are realated one way or another......don't get me wrong... I watch all these and I really do like them, but I am just saying they are not always related to real life situations either.....

I think watching a lot of these shows kind of make people realize that their own problems don't seem as big......

I love Sindoor its just perfect.... if Nih kept getting caught it would only last about couple of weeks and we would be done....

just my opinion....

While i totally agree with you "isha_dee2," I think its also important to acknowledge that with Indian serials, you are dealing with an entirely different audience, an entirely different value system and an entirely different culture. Though soaps in the US and Canada like B&B and Y&R have been in the running for 20 or so years, the diversity of issues that can be dealt with in a western society (teen rebellion, inter-racial marriages, diseases and contraction) can just not be dealt with in the same way in south asian societies. In-fact, if Indian serials attempted to deal with such issues, they would more than likely loose viewership because such issues would be considered to "bold" or different.

When it comes to "cheesyness" while I agree that all Indian serials are over-dramatic (the praying to mata kali example in sindoor), I think that such scenes are put into the serial to create an emphasis of what we as a society believe in- the Indian society is very united in their belief in God.

Hence, to get to my point, I suppose that even though serials in India are overdramatic, I still believe, living in a Western culture, they successfully depict (to an extent) the values and morals that make our culture so distinct.😃 😛
