^^credits to Proteeti for this gorgeous edit!

Feel free to address any doubts you have regarding Ramanand Sagar's Shri Krishna here!

This thread is a platform to discuss the various plotlines of this show in comparison to the ancient epics themselves, whether one is referring to Shrimad Bhagawat purana, Vyasa's Mahabharata, Brahma Vaivarta Purana, or any other purana about Lord Shri Krishna.

Please do not use this thread to compare the show to any other mythological show, or the actors to other actors! This is only to discuss the stories of Lord Krishna as shown in this serial in comparison to the ancient epics.

Jai Shri Krishna!

Is, it true that yadavas ruled because of grace of kaurav ?

It is mentioned in samb marriage that kaurav saying that yadavas are ruling because of kaurav grace

And kaurav also said that if yadavas come to rescue samb we will break yadavas pride

Kaurav saying to balram in insulting tone that we allowed yadavas to share our bed share our meal

When kaurav allow yadavas share their bed and meal ? . When did kaurav show grace on yadavas that because of grace of kaurav yadavas ruled?

Kaurav said these words to balram like sharing bed , meal when balram went to hastinspur and gave proposal to kaurav that he doesn't want fight between yadavas and kaurav he want unity and peace among kaurav and yadavas so kaurav should return samb peacefully and also get samb and laxmana married

RkS, thanks for making this!

My first question: were Vasudev/Devaki ever released from prison after the birth of Krishna? I was always under the impression that they remained there, and were only freed after the death of Kansa and the restoration of Ugrasena

They were released one time after krishna was born. See https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-dGlZCGsXVI, the episode shows Vasudeva going to see Rishiji and Rishiji telling him about Balram and Krishna.

From my understanding, they were released in SB but not in MB. But Lola would know this more than me.

Yes kans release vasudev and Devki from prison when yogmaya inform him that tumhe maarne wala kahin aur janam le chuka hai( ur killer has taken birth some where else)

So kans start regretting and asking forgiveness from vasudev and Devki that I have so much bad to u both and then kans release vasudev and Devki from prison

But after 11 years narad ji informed kans that krishna is actually son of Devki and vasudev so kans again put both in prison and tied both with iron chain

Yes that was the one I wanted to answer. Thank you for reminding us.

So yes as per RS version of Shri Krishna, vasudev and devaki were freed once and then Krishnaji freed them.

Okay, since they're starting to show the Jarasandha wars, here's the next thing that comes to mind

In this serial, they've shown Shalya - as in the mama of Nakul/Sahadev - as one of the key people around Jarasandha. It's he who gives him the idea of Kalyavan, it's he who encourages Jarasandha to keep fighting and so on. Are we sure that the serial didn't make a mistake here and insert Shalya in place of Shalva, that friend of Sishupala who attacked Dwarka to avenge his death?

B'cos it doesn't make sense that Shalya would try to be such a major power player on Jarasandha's side. He had a matrimonial alliance w/ Pandu, and meant to honor it w/ the Pandavas, except that he was tricked at Kurukshetra into joining the Kauravas. But although he fought a disguised Bhima at Draupadi's swayamvara, there's nothing to suggest that he was one of Krishna's haters, like others in the group - Rukmi, Sishupala, and if one counts those not shown, Shalva, Dantavatra, Paundrak and his friend Kashiraj.

Also, according to SB, it was Narada who sent Kalyavan, who was looking for someone worth fighting (much like Dundoobi in the Ramayan) to Mathura to fight Krishna. Kalyavan was no ally of Jarasandha: his presence just happened to be opportune for Jarasandha

Maybe they mixed up Shalva and Shalya? The names are pretty similar, and it's easy to make that mistake.

I don't think Shalya was ever written anywhere as a supporter of Jarasandha. It doesn't make sense that he'd agree to come under Pandu's rule so easily when he had Jarasandh's support.
