If we have to look at the divine aspect then nandbaba's daughter was yogmaya who was born for this purpose only and if we have to look at humanly aspect then we have seen this story in our later history also like panadai who sacrificed her son's life inorder to save udai Singh's life.At that time nandbaba had to follow rajdharma but yeah he should have told yashoda maa but even there he was confused as he was scared of his wife's reaction.

Well there are 2 versions of the story -

In Bhagawat Purana, both Yashoda and Nand Baba were asleep when Vasudev, who was under a trance by Yogmaya, arrived by himself and switched the babies. In this version, they are all blameless as none of them were in their senses.

In another version (I think Vishnu Purana?) - Vasudev and Nand Baba re childhood friends/cousins and Vasudev approaches him, reveals the akashwani's prophecy and explains Vishnu coming to them and explaining why the babies must be switched. Even if one believes this story - there is clearly a divine element to it in which Nand Baba believes the prophecy and the occurrence of Vishnu appearing to VD. If he believes that, why wouldn't he believe his own baby girl would be protected by Vishnu from Kans' atrocities? He may not know she is Yogmaya, but he must know nothing would happen to her as this was all a divine leela.

Either way, one cannot remove the divine element from this story as the entire Janmashtami leela is a divine play by the Lord.

If we go by the story of Nand-Yashoda not knowing too, then it's a complete divine play and no human had a say in it.

Otherwise I feel it was really brave of Nand baba to give up his kid (the one after so much of trying that too) fully knowing that Krishna would leave and that he will never get to be a true parent (that Krishna did take care of).

For Yashoda I guess it was a kind of a betrayal...she deserved to know. But then, yeah she probably wouldn't have agreed had she known.

On a surprise and confuse note, shouldn't mother know that whether a girl was born or a boy?

But if we ignore divine elements, how was protecting Krishna a greater good?? It was pretty obvious that Kamsa would get to know about the child swap sooner or later, and that would mean him attacking Gokul. It was actually risking the lives of all Golulwaasis for one child

About it being divine, did Yogmaya tell Nandbaba about it?

If we go by the second story Nandbaba has shown great courage. Agreed he was friend to Vasudevji but still believing in such situations especially when the person in front of you has lost his 7 children and is asking for something which is definitely uncommon (divinity might have been not unheard but definitely was uncommon) is not easy at a time when the life of your own daughter is as risk

But saying this it makes sense that he sacrificed hoping for a greater good

Yashoda had fainted during the child birth. She didn't see the child she delivered

Yashoda would have definitely not agreed, so keeping her out of the plan was a wise decision

Either case divine or not NandBaba did a great sacrifice

By ignoring of divine element I only meant the girl child being yogmaya.
