I think a better way for RS to phrase Krishna's reply to Akrur would have been "Nand and Yashoda are no less my parents than Devaki and Vasudev, Akrurji. To me, all four of them are worthy of love and respect, so for you to say Devaki and Vasudev are my "true" parents is hurtful to the loving individuals who raised me as their own."

Yes you are right. They should have given dialogues in these lines

Anyway, let's move on with the discussions since I guess the show is progressing at a rapid pace too.

Let's discuss the pregnancy of Balram and Jamashtami!

What scenes were your guys' favorite?

I'm yet to see those parts, I'll come back after a thorough viewing! 😃

Also, interesting to note, Kans immediately imagined Krishna's switching scenario when he couldn't find Balram...you were right, that's not an idiot! 🤓

Nope, he wasn't an idiot...just impulsive, panicky and creepy.

Noooo let's slow down I don't wanna go fast 😆

Back to baby Kirtimaan, for me the two moments that are really poignant are when Kans enters the room and Vasudev--despite himself, knowing it won't do any good--defaults into this protective stance to defend his little family😭 And then after it happens, after the initial moment of grief, both of them get into this blank state of shock and disbelief which really makes sense after this kind of trauma that must've taken longer for them to process than that split second. It all feels so genuine that it makes it all the more heartbreaking 🥺

And then as I promised/threatened... my dissertation on Tu Dheeraj. I've probably said all of this in bits and pieces before but bear with me :D

First of all, and this part is new because it dawned on me not too long ago--this is a VERY hopeful song for a sad moment. Obvious, I know, but if you think about it, it could've been another Vidhna tere lekh/Vidhna tere khel niraale type tragic song that describes the circumstances they're in or the emotions they must've experienced in the montage that we just witnessed. But the song isn't retrospective in that way, it's really about the aftermath and the mind/soul struggling to stay afloat in those circumstances, which makes it so much more instructive than a typical sad song would have been. It's teaching us to at least *Try* and pray for divine help in those circumstances and trust that we'll get it, as VD did, instead of only dwelling on grief and reliving it. The song is a perfect match for what RSji and Ravindra Jain were trying to convey about the characters, the exact thing that makes them such perfect role models--the fact that they undoubtedly felt pain, but still their faith persisted.

And the "feeling pain" part--the way that's depicted in the visuals of the song is also hauntingly beautiful. It's not a depiction of one day or one time period but the phases their grief must've gone through every single time they underwent such untold tragedy. Numbness, pain, flashbacks, praying for help. Sometimes she looks like she's struggling to hold on to her faith, sometimes he looks like he is. It also seems clear from the first minute and the last minute of the song that he waits until she's sleeping to let himself grieve because the last thing he wants is for her to hurt any more... but we get that little glimpse of her sitting upright when he comes back and oustretching her arms so he can hold them... it seems like she's seen his tears and wants to turn the tables this time and comfort him, give him the strength he always gives her 😭 And thus, in tandem, each one pulls the other up as needed to get them through this incredible journey of tragedy and trauma that must've seemed like an endless loop at the time, without ever losing their faith in God and goodness and the fact that it was all for a reason.

Man, this whole scene was so heartbreaking! Every one of VD's mannerisms was so realistic, making it even more difficult to watch. From the moment Kirtimaan is born and Devaki holds him close to her chest, refusing to give him up, and Vasudev has to ply him from her arms with a devastated look on his face, Vasudev's walk down the corridor as he battles guilt and despair, his suppressed anger at Kans when the latter mocks his situation, and then his shock and worry when Kans sends him back with the baby, his compassion as he looks at a happy Devaki because he knows the happy moment won't last, and then finally his anger and protectiveness over his family despite knowing he is powerless to save the baby. Devaki's shock and state of disbelief as she has to be almost dragged to the dungeons....all of it was so real!

Maybe this scene would have been easier to watch if they'd been wooden actors, or overacted in some way, but then we wouldn't have been able to appreciate them as much.

Yeah, this was a combination of hope/despair. It really teaches us that no matter how bad life gets, if one maintains their faith in God, they can get through it, maybe not in one piece, and maybe not the same as before, but God will help pull us through.

This song really touched my soul. I feel like it's really relatable in so many circumstances, even during the current pandemic.

The reason for that realism came through in her livestream--they really, really got into that state of mind. She said the two of them would get into a really dark place after doing these scenes for 18-20 hours a day and the rest of the cast would do a lot of teasing and masti to get them out of it. It was so deeply internalized and it shows!

Now on to baby Balram... the beautiful dynamic between them that we got glimpses of in "tu dheeraj" really seems to have solidified here. His whole life has become about her comfort and safety (I mean... the guy sleeps sitting up so her head doesn't have to rest on the hard stone), and one word for him is enough to strengthen her faith and keep her going.

And speaking of faith, though through his words he's always trying to put her at ease and stick to the message that he's not worried because God is protecting them, his actions always show that loving instinct to fear for his loved ones' safety and try to protect them anyway. In the Kirtimaan scene, he tried to be steady as we walked his newborn son to Kans's palace, but as soon as Kans came to them he put his arms around his family to safeguard them. In this track, he's all like--"the savior will come, we're going to be fine!"--but when there's a glowing halo around her womb, what's the first thing he does? Flail around trying to hide it under a blanket so the guards don't see 😆 Even later when they find out about Krishna, he says all these things about having faith because he's just witnessed the most undeniable example that God is plenty capable of taking care of Himself and them--but the second she starts to mention her son a little more loudly, he shushes her out of fear that the guards will hear he still has a son 🥺 I think that blend of having faith but STILL having feelings--the one that Sita Maa talks about in her departure from Ayodhya during Uttar Ramayan--is the a beautiful expression about what vaatsalya ras as a mode of bhakti is all about. The fact that God exists and is all-powerful keeps you going, but loving him as a parent loves a child, your heart gets overwhelmed with human emotions like fear and worry... it's just that they're all directed towards Him. We really see that beautifully here, love that's elevated to that rasa level.

Quick shoutout for the hilarious little wide-eyed stare they share as they watch Kans lose his freaking mind in front of them over Sheshji's antics 😆
