It happens in fairly tales besides films and serials that an ugly duckling often meets and marries her prince charming. Shadilal Halwai's biggest worry in life was not how to modernise his dhaba business. But like all good fathers, his major concern was his daughter Shanno's shaadi. Nave, innocent, untidy, short and ordinary looking, Shanno's marital prospects were next to nil.

But since matches and marriages are made in heaven, an NRI came in search of a homely and traditional Indian girl for marital bliss. He came into Shanno's life accidentally but walked straight into her heart. It didn't her take long to realise that Arjun is indeed the man of her dreams. She felt on top of the world when she came to know that even Arjun felt the same for her.

They should have tied the knot long ago. In a saas-bahu show it would have been instant marriage, kids, friction or may be even separation by now. But not in Shanno Ki Shaadi, what with the usual too many ifs and buts, conditions and sacrifices that the NRI had to go through for the ugly duckling's hand. Shanno is at last getting married to Arjun. "It's been fun doing the show," gushes Divya Dutta who in real life is engaged to an armed forces man. "Since the serial is about Shanno's marriage, people wanted to see her getting married."

Probably a makeover for Shanno is in the offing. "I really can't say because that's the channel's call," she clarifies. "But my guess is that Shanno's identity will remain because that's the hook of the serial." What's also not clear is post-marriage whether Shanno and Arjun will relocate to another place.

"That's something the channel will have to decide," says Vikas Bhalla who plays Arjun. Ask Vikas what made Arjun fall for the ugly duckling and he says, "It's her inner beauty that appeals to him." Vikas says now that the marriage has happened it marks the beginning of a new story.
