Bappi Lahiri sings in Tamil

The Ooh La La... singer has recorded his first song for Ajmal's next

V Lakshmi

Director Prabhu Raja Cholan and composer Kannan have roped in Bollywood composer-singer Bappi Lahiri to record a song in their forthcoming film Karuppampatti. The film, starring Ajmal and Aparna Bajpai (of Eesan fame), is set in two different time periods, and has Ajmal playing both father and a son.
Confirming the news, Prabhu says, "Bappi is probably the first choice for music composers who want to record a disco song for their films. And his was also the first name that popped in our head as we finalised the track, Naughty Raja Raja…, for our film."
He continues, "After the success of his last Ooh La La… (from The Dirty Picture), Bappi has become very selective about the songs he sings, and we were told he'd rejected several offers in Bollywood as well. So, we sent him a track of the song, and after listening to the tune, he agreed to sing for us."
Prabhu and Kannan flew down to Mumbai to record the song at a studio recently. "The number, set in the 80s, is a disco song and the lyrics for it have been written by Kabilan. This also happens to be the first Tamil song that Bappida has recorded, and he was very reluctant to accept our offer first. But we convinced him telling it's an Elvis Presley kind of a song, and only he can do justice to it," Prabhu says.
