Strange are the ways of showbiz. Simi Garewal and Karan Johar, the hosts of two most fiercely competitive celebrity talk shows, Rendezvous With Simi Garewal and Koffee With Karan, are coming together to judge a music-and-dance contest on NDTV's new entertainment channel Imagine.

Though the "historic collaboration" between the two rivals is currently being kept under wraps, it is reliably learnt that Simi and Karan will be judging a TV show called Say Shava Shava. The title itself, borrowed from a chartbuster in Johar's feature film Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, is indicative of the show's mood

"It's not seasonal or episodic, but an 11-day music and dance extravaganza, like any real-life wedding where boys and girls from all over the country sing and dance and are judged for their abilities. Yes, Simi and Karan have been brought together to host the show," a source told IANS.

Reality shows are a rage these days. Almost every channel worth its salt (and of course mobile phone companies) is trying to get a pie of the newly discovered goldmine! After STAR, Sahara, Sony and Zee, it seems to be NDTV Imagine's turn now. They are all set to launch a new musical show featuring celebrities.

Titled "Say Shaava Shaava", the show will have your favourite bahu's, beti's, bhai's, pati's and khalnayak's come together and try out their crooning skills. Aman Verma, Apoorva Agnihotri, Divyanka Tripathi, Juhi Parmar, Mouni Roy, Narayani Shastri, Pulkit Samrat and Sumeet Raghavan ...name the star and you will find them here!

If you thought you had enough of celebrity quotient in this show, wait till you listen to this. Ace director and TV host, Karan Johar, will be the judge for this show. Not sure whether he will offer a role or song in his next film, to the winner! The show will be hosted by popular television actor Ali Asgar.

Says Juhi Parmar, who is all excited to be part of the show, "I took up this show just to explore singing. People have seen my acting and dancing a lot, but never ever have I sung in public." She becomes nostalgic while talking about singing, "Since childhood, I love singing and this is an art form which I have not explored."

Sumeet Raghavan, however, agreed to participate in the contest for a different reason. "I think the concept is new and that is what attracted me. I have been acting for the last few years continously and this would allow me to try something different." Sumeet is not a trained singer, "But I like singing and enjoy music. I love ghazals and soft hindi music. Mohd Rafi is my favourite singer."

Aman Verma, better known as the host of many a popular reality show, will be on the other side this time. "I am participating to get a feel of being on the other side of the table!", says Aman. Divyanka Tripathi, the dulhan of Indian television, will also be there in this show. "Three reasons for participating. First of all, I want to learn singing. Secondly, being in a daily soap, it is very difficult to do something you like. And this is something close to my heart. And thirdly, I want to meet new people in the industry. In the last 1.5 years, I have hardly been able to do that", says the star with the Best Face.

To ensure that the participants sing as well as they look on screen, each one of them was made to undergo extensive voice training! In every episode, the stars will sing their favorite songs and Karan, along with viewers, will select the best singer. Juhi is being trained by Dilshaad, a music director and singer. "He is very patient, more so because he knows I am not a trained singer," says the pretty actress. "I am a totally Hindi music fan and my favoutite singers are Sunidhi and Shreya. I really wish I stay till the point where I can sing the difficult songs they sing."

Juhi will dress according to the song and is all thrilled about Karan being the judge. "He is a very down-to-earth person and I am very comfortable talking to him."

Narayani Shastri will also be part of this show. "NDTV Imagine is a very prestigious channel and I am very happy to work them. My trainer in the show is Punjabi pop singer Sukhdev, whom I just met!" Narayani is practising for an hour everyday and is in the process of finalising the songs which she is going to sing in the show. "The good part of this show is that it will last for just 11 days at a stretch and not go on for months! I hope I can sing well," says the pretty actress.

Aman's music teacher in the show is Deepak Shah, both of them are trying to rehearse for 2 hours a day. "I am not a trained singer and am trying to finalise the songs. I need to weed out songs that will not suit me."

Viewers will see Aman in a different hairstyle (long hair) this time. "All these days, I could not grow my hair because of continuity. Now since I will be myself, I am trying this new look! This is to break the monotony."

Divyanka's music trainer in the show is music director Shailesh whom she fondly called Guruji. "I am finding it difficult to manage time for rehearsals." Divyanka is very fond of Indian folk songs with a classical base. Divyanka, whom we always see in Dulhan in Indian dresses, will sport a new look.

After Jhoom India Another Singing Competition Of Stars Say Shava Shava.

The esteem hosts of the two hit shows "Kofee With Karan" and "Rendezvous With Simi Garewal" are now coming together in NDTV's new show "Say Shava Shava". Yes I am talking about Karan Johar and Simi Grewal who will now judge the new reality show "Say Shava Shava". In this show Karan and Simi will judge the singing capabilities of the TV stars. It will be an 11 day show which will start from 21st January 2008. It will be telecasted at 8-30 p.m. on NDTV Imagine.The show will be presented by Ali Asgar. The stars which will participate in the show include:

Divyanka Tripathi
Apoorva Agnihori
Aman Verma
Juhi Parmar
Mouni Roy
Narayani Shastri
Sumeet Raghvan
Pulkit Samrat
In order to have good performance from these stars they are being trained by the professionals like Narayani Shastri will be trained by Punjabi pop singer Sukhdev, Divyanka by music director Shailesh, Juhi by music director and singer Dilshad, Aman by Deepak Shah.The participant with the least scores and votes will be eliminated everyday till the final winner is being announced. So this show is very much like Sahara's show Jhoom India and will differ from Jhoom India in the mood of the show as Say Shava Shava is based on wedding theme.

Pulkit quits Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhii Bahu Thi

Pulkit Samrat who became a star in fortnight and stole the hearts of million girls with his onscreen character Lakshay Virani in Balaji's Kyunkii Saas Bhi Kabhii Bahu Thi has decided to quit the serial after essaying the role for one and a half year. Not only this Pulkit who was earlier supposed to participate in NDTV Imagine's music based reality show Say Shava Shava, is no longer doing the show. Pulkit had quit Kyunkii.. last Saturday and is on a break right now. He confirms, "I had quit the sow five days back and I am on a break enjoying myself. I think I have done justice to my role and now I have realised that my character had reached the point of stagnation so the decision to quit." But did it affect his relationship with his mentor and Balaji's honcho Ekta Kapoor? Pulkit replies, "No, I had conveyed my decision to Ekta and it was an amicable decision. My personal equation with her has not changed." Pulkit is now looking for the greener pastures and scanning offers both from television and Bollywood. Pulkit reveals, "There are some offers from Bollywood but I still have to zero down on a good one. As far as television goes I am getting offers but I am taking my time. I am just waiting for a more substantial role especially after doing Kyunkii..." A new face is going to replace Pulkit as Lakshay on the show and the search is on. Pulkit says, "The production house is looking for a replacement and the search is on." Pulkit is no mood to return back on the show at the moment even after his break ends. Talking about NDTV Imagine's Say Shava Shava, Pulkit feels that it is better to drop the idea than to trouble the production house later with the issues. Pulkit says, "It was not confirmed as the talks were on. I can't be a part of the show as I can't give the required dates in the end of the January month. But I loved the concept of the show. There were some other things as well behind me quitting the show which I can't reveal. I also did not want to give trouble to the production house and the channel later so I decided to drop the idea." Well as Pulkit takes a break we just hope the news does not break hearts of the million girls in love with him.

'Things should get better for me in days to come' - Pulkit Samrat

The dashing Pulkit Samrat who got popular with his on screen character of Lakshya has now quit Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. The list does not end here, as the actor will not be seen in Say Shaava Shaava too.


Pulkit Samrat, better known as Lakshya from Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi has done what few would dare to do. He has 'quit' the mega-serial over 'creative differences' with the production house - Balaji Telefilms. Ask him about details of the 'creative' differences and he will keep mum.

Pulkit, a newcomer shot to fame overnight with his portrayal of Lakshya's character. His on screen romance with Mouni Roy scaled new heights on the popularity charts amongst teens.
Quitting Kyunki is the second setback for Pulkit, who recently decided not to proceed with NDTV Imagine's reality show Say Shava Shava over some differences with the producers. "Things just didn't work out between me and Say Shava Shava and that is why I decided to call it quits," says the dreamy eyed actor.

But what about Ekta? Pulkit was doing so well in the Balaji camp and he had an instant access to stardom through Lakshya's role. "There were some creative differences which were not working out. Both Ekta and I have taken it very well. The lookout for the new Lakshya is still on. It was a very amicable separation."

So what next for him? "I have plans of venturing into the big screen. Have few very good offers from both the small and big screen, which I am carefully considering. Will let you know as soon as I finalise something. In the mean time, please request all my fans to pray for me. I am sure with their prayers and blessings, things will be good for me very soon."

'I am tired of being Kumkum' - Juhi
Juhi Parmar, who has been the 'Face' of Kumkum for so many years is now on a lookout for greener pastures,as the actress is well on course to sing her way to glory in NDTV Imagine's Say Shaava Shaava...


It seems Kumkum has finally started to tire out Juhi Parmar. "How long can I go on playing the same character? The actor in me needs other avenues. Don't get me wrong, I love my role in the popular Star Plus show but yes, the saturation point has also started to creep in", admits the gorgeous Juhi Parmar..

Juhi will be seen in a new avtar in NDTV Imagine's Say Shaava Shaava starting 21st January. Looking forward to this pleasant change, Juhi says, "I just hope that 2008 brings in variety of different roles. The start has been good with NDTV Imagine's Say Shaava Shaava". She adds on, "This 11 day non stop dance and song extravaganza will be different from other reality shows in the sense that you will not see unnecessary drama. We all 8 contestants are more interested in our own performance rather then bringing down the other. Infact, we egg them on".

Juhi says that the opportunity to learn something new encouraged her to join this reality show which will be judged by renowned names such as Karan Johar and Simi Garewal. "I have always loved Bollywood songs hence could easily pick out mistakes in Antakshri, without having to consult the research team", she remembers proudly.

Who do you think will win Say Shaava Shaava? "Sumeet Raghvan has a better chance as he has already finished runner up in Marathi Sa Re Ga Ma Pa . So unlike us, he will not not have mike fright, isn't it? Plus he is a great singer to boot as well", opines Juhi. Among the females, she felt "Narrayaanie Shashtri is the best bet".

The fun filled musical entertainer on NDTV IMAGINE witnessed its first bidaai today with Aman Verma getting eliminated! It was truly the first sad moment on this musical show which is full of masti and hungama! The judges, Simi Garewal and Karan Johar also announced the next two celebrities in the danger zone- Divyanka Tripathi and Juhi Parmar. The second elimination will be announced in the episode airing on Thursday, January 24, 2008.

According to the format of the show, the eliminated person is announced at the beginning of the show and is then given the authority to save any one participant from the danger zone for that episode. Aman Verma chose to save Mannish Goel from being eliminated today. When asked why he chose Mannish, Aman said, "Last evening, when the voting process was on, Mannish told everyone to vote for me and save me from getting eliminated as he feels he is a bad singer! I thought it was a very sweet gesture and I decided to save him! I had a blast while I was on the show and wish all the luck to the rest of the participants!"

So who will get eliminated tomorrow? Will it be Divyanka or Juhi? Watch out on Say Shaava Shaava at 8:30 pm tomorrow only on NDTV IMAGINE.

Apurva Agnihotri is back with a bang in NDTV Imagine's Say Shaava Shaava and Radhaa Ki Betiyaan Kuch Kar Dikhayengi... Here is the actor in conversation..

Apurva Agnihotri is quite looking forward to NDTV Imagine's, 'Say Shaava Shaava'. "It's great fun to sing in front of celeb judges , Karan and Simi. I have been rehearsing so much that my throat has gone sore"😭,he grinned. Ask him about the games most reality show employ to win TRP and he get's defensive. "I really am not bothered, I just concentrate on my singing and go home." He further added that he did not wish to compare himself with any of his fellow contestants.👏 "I am only competing with my self" 👍🏼,adds the star with the most pleasing smile.

Manish Goyal in SSS

Actor Manish Goyal, popular as Tilak from Bhabhi, is now trying his hand at singing. No he is not planning to launch his album but will be participating in the singing reality show Say Shava Shava. We asked Manish what made him take up the offer.

"Honestly, I refused this show earlier when I was shooting in Goa. Before that, I also refused Jjhoom India because I know that I am bad singer. However, when I went to my home town Delhi during the Diwali holidays, I was chatting with my friends and told them that I have been offered this show so they asked me to sing and I did. After listening to my song, they felt I should try as I am not a bad singer," Manish tells us.

Incidentally, when Manish came back from Delhi, he got a call again to reconfirm his participation or denial for the show. "I have worked with Sameer Nair and co during Nach Baliye and they were more confident about me. They reminded me that I never used to dance before Nach Baliye and yet reached the finals so I should try singing this time," explains Manish.

Talking about his preparations, he says, "I am putting my best. I always believe that you should involve yourself completely in whatever you take up. I am giving my 200% for this show. Dancing is compulsion for us but not singing so I am not chasing anyone in the show. In 60s and 70s, actors used to sing their own songs on screen and off screen as well. I think that trend is coming back again. I am not here to be a playback singer but if I am able to achieve something in singing then that would be great for me and it would be like an added advantage."

He adds, "I am doing my daily riyaz. Hysianth D'souza is my teacher. He has done lots of hit remixes. Basically we have been given mentors to give us knowledge of music and to take care of our sur."

Manish feels that the main USP of the show is Simi Garewal and Karan Johar. "Simi and Karan are famous, their respective shows were so popular and being judged by such people is always a great thing. Also, the show is going to run only for 11 days and this is the first of a kind concept on Indian television. Lastly, the show also has new actors like Divyanka and Mouni and experienced ones like Aman, Apurva, and Narayani."

Asked about his wife Poonam's reaction, he instantly recalls, "I proposed Poonam by singing a song and she said yes but also kept one condition – I had to promise her that I would never sing again in life."

On his chances in the show, Manish says, "I am an ugly singer, the worst in this batch but the good thing is that from the last two days Poonam is opening her ears and listening to my entire two-minute songs. She is very critical about my work whether it is acting, writing or anything and if you have critics at home then you do not need anybody else's response. She tells me that I am doing alright and that I have fair chances in the show."

The show will be on NDTV Imagine and will be hosted by Ali Asgar.

Karan Johar on his new television show 'Say Shava Shava' and his upcoming ventures.

Tell us something about your new show, 'Say Shava'?

I am one of the judges on the show. The show is based on shaadi war. There is a bit of nonk jhonk between the gharaati and baraati teams. Every day there would be elimination on the basis of audience votes and judges opinion.

You styled Shah Rukh's look in 'KBC 2.' Are you going to do it for someone else?

No, it's only for Shah Rukh as he is very dear to me. I'm glad that the look got appreciated

What about your own look?

I design for fun. So to me style or fashion is something, which I'm most comfortable in.

Did you cry when you saw 'Taare Zameen Par'?

Once the film get over, I was numb for a while. It was a beautiful movie that moved me. Aamir Khan has proved his mettle. He is a superb director and an equally actor.

What else is keeping you busy?

I am working on an animated film, 'Kuchi Kuchi Hota Hai' and one live action film with Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham and Priyanka Chopra.

What's between you and Ekta Kapoor?

I love her and adore her as a good friend.

And?

We have lots of things in common. But a future association can happen if she asks me to work in Balaji.
