The only reason I see is that they don't know what to do with his role anymore? Now that the love triangle has become a flop, what else is left for him to do? He is just not related to any character in the show, that they can show his seperate track. Mostly in every show in every love triangle, they always make the 3rd wheel negative so that the audience can hate him!
