DISAPPOINTED'
That's how actor Ragini Khanna feels about the closure of her hit show, Sasuraal Genda Phool
Ragini Khanna is very upset about the fact that her hit show Sasuraal Genda Phool (SGP) will end next week. Flummoxed by the news of the show's end, she says she is feeling blank and adds, "It was a jor ka jhatka (huge shock), a big blow as we were expecting it to continue till Diwali at least. I heard about it two weeks ago from a journalist. Since this was the second time that the news that SGP was going off air had spread, I didn't know what to believe, till I got official confirmation. It has not sunk in yet."
Ragini KhannaThe show's cast will sign off in style. "We have shot a goodbye promo, which has never been done before. The consolation is that we are going off with all glory and with good ratings to our credit," says Ragini.
SGP was a story about the taming of Suhaana (Ragini) who is married into a joint family. With no villains or vamps, but with situations creating comedy and drama, Ragini feels, "the show achieved an iconic position that not even the highest rated show was able to achieve. SGP was a quality product, which brought fresh content on TV. Like Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin, Balika Vadhu who brought in a new wave, SGP did the same in terms of story and treatment."
It isn't easy for her to let go of her role, the actor says sadly. "I am very upset and my sorrow has no boundaries. Everyone has mixed emotions and wondering why the channel is closing down the show when it gets good ratings."
In the last two years, SGP was a slot leader with TRP ratings between 2.5 and 3, which means success for a show. However, SGP has seen the glory of TRPS to the tune of 4.5-5 too, and has featured in the top ten list.
Ragini hasn't planned her next move yet. "There have been offers but I haven't locked anything. I might do television, films or even a play," she says.
Zama Habib, producer of SGP, adds, "I am fine with the show going off air. It is better to close down a show when it is a hit and at its peak than after it's dragged on endlessly."
