Unfortunately SKBM itself is testimony to the fact that Indian soap operas are driven by a strange set of circumstances - brought on more by some kind of audience roulette played by creative heads of channels and PHs. Most excellent movies often have a story, plot, script, screeplay, scenes and even dialogues planned months, even years ahead of time. Even mediocre movies need these elements in place before financiers are een willing to touch them.
On the other hand soap operas (of Indian origin, this is not seen in US and British soaps - where plots are built for a whole 'season') change their plots on a monthly, even weekly basis and can see random behind the scenes and on-screen turnover of both personnel and the story/plot. For younger artists just starting out in their careers, serials can be a break into the industry and they are better able to adapt to these vagracies. However, it can be frustrating for a seasoned actor. Many in this cast (which has largely been exceptional) might be burnt by the SKBM experience... It is better to participate in a Ram Lila at the fairgrounds than this kind of idiocy. At least the Ram Lila has predictability and some logic!! The Life OK channel itself seems to think that mediocrely depicted "negative" plots constitute "difference"... 😡😡😡
Serials such as Saathiya, DABH, etc. have somewhat predictable plotlines - even if they have inane plots (for my taste), they do provide a stable story. The characters might not be the most exciting, but the whole gig seems more professionally run...hence the geshtalt results in an attarctive story for its target audience... But the roles/characters offered in these change very little over time and might not be challenging enough...
