It depends on the number of patients you admit. There can be even 1 surgery on one day or as many as 6. This is about the elective surgery which are already decided. The number of emergency surgeries depend on how many critical cases are admitted in emergency casualty ward and the severity of the patient. So about emergency surgeries there is no count.

I have stay in hospital few days I have seen one resident doctor always there during night time near ward and another resident is during morning time. Yes specialist come if condition of patient become very serious but specialist cannot be always with patient so resident doctor is there to always with patient like noting down their fever and they give report to specialist

I am not saying patient should be leave on resident only . I want to say as it is very difficult for specialist remain in ward for 24*7 hrs so resident is given duty in ward to look after patient and when group of specialist visit to see patient. Resident give progress report about patient to specialist

At Least in government hospital I have seen this procedure

I’m a government hospital resident doctor too. You might have been admitted in a medicine ward and not a surgical ward. There is always a lecturer on call every day according to the unit who has the emergency irrespective of the department. So even if any complication occurs in the ward he is informed and has to attend it. No surgery is done without informing the unit head or the lecturer.

Thanks for so many responses. I really feel they should mellow down Ishani’s Sherlock Holmes avatar. I am not against the actress, as I know people loved her in her last show, but a new show needs a new slate. So please cvs do your homework.
