yeah it looks like that film Tehzeeb starring Urmila and Shabana Azmi...urmila hates shabana for the same reason, but shabana has always been a caring mother...which urmila understand later when she dies..

I assume Randhir's father is a useless guy and his Mom works hard to make ends meet.

As the servant mentioned that the father is there which means he is not dead.

This may have been the reason she could not be a "typical" mother as Randhir wanted but still she loves him and cares for him.
