I found Nihira's version of this rendition acceptable.

mampi should be applauded for having selected this song when some others tried to take short cut through easy song.

As a judge I would always giv eextra marks for such attempts.

This shouldn't be a point of discussion if Mampi sings like Alka. Alka is still there if Mampi has to become a clone of Alka ji it would be unfortunate.

If thread starter meant she has skills like Alka ji , I would politely disagree.

But Mampi has GREAT voice quality which is quite sought after these days.

in her alaap (that aa-aa--a-a-aaa-h thingy at the start) she sounded a LOT like kavita..

at some parts of the song she sounded like alka, in some parts totally original.

But the singing, ie, the harkatein/swara whatever u call it, wasn't the way lata ji did.. :) as lady goo goo said, only a lata/asha can sing this song perfectly.

Maampee auditioned in Kolkata but she is actually from Shillong. Her full name is Maapee Nair Chakroborty. She is listed rather as Maampee Nair.

I have met her on the sets of srgmp zee bangla competition but she is not that friendly but other contestants was quite friendly.This is just my view when i met her at that time in 2008.she is a good singer and has good voice quality.

Even Nihira did somthing dubious at 1:30 and 1:39. No one can pull off this song100% on stage if she's not a Lata/Asha. In the middle part of Mampee's "Saathi re", too, I felt there was something missing, but she never went off key and that's an achievement in itself considering the difficulty level of this song. And also, she was singing in a much tenser situation than Nihira's.

Varshaji, I think we'll be a little hasty in both cases of comparing Mampee to Nihira and saying she's nowhere near Nihira this early. 😳 Ofcourse too hasty to say anything...I mentioned in my post that I dont mean to compare them..So did not post any link..I said I have heard better version And when I say Mampee was no where close to it....IT did not mean close to Nihira's rendition...IT meant original...

I can understand my sentence could be confusing or misleading...Anyways thank you so much for taking back to that aweful day my dearest Nihira was eliminated but she went out with a superb rendition...BTW I did not find anything dubious between 1:30 to 1:39...Appreciate the link u posted...

I said "just awesome" from my past experience. And yes, she doesn't sound like Alka.

I mentioned in my post before Mampee is a good singer...During audition was my first time listening to her so this was Mampee's 2nd performance and early for me to say she is awesome or not...So I go by performance at a time until I develop some opinion and on most of the singers who I have not really heard for long...Hope this explains...😃
