Ah she sounds great to me. Certain Western and Chines classicals have some of the shrillest notes and I am used to it.
As for Alka, she isn't always shrill, and in a fundamental sense, even when she is, it isn't her fault. In fact, some may even consider it a feature. Because even such a magnificent singer as Lata has also been shrill on occasion, for precisely the same reasons.
Naushad might have been ridiculed in this forum for many things including
some of the statements that he has made in the past but one thing that he
said about Asha rings true to me to this day. When asked my Raju Bharatan
is it that he finds fault with Asha's singing he said, "unki awaaz mein
abhi tak woh baazaarupan nahin gaya". Call it baazaarupan, natkatpan,
shokilapan or even nasheelapan, you see one or more of them in most Asha
songs.
again@ar
Reading tons of thread two pints are clear S-J has pushed Lata maimum to the upper register but all including Naushad, Salil and S D burman had their role. Was it because composers wanted this or Lata ji wanted to prove a point is unknown. This bell like clarity was lost later on as lata ji aged and composers stopped making these songs.
Alka ji being an old timer and from the same chool of thought carried on with this tradition. (hence sound shrill)
This is a vast topic and would need further discussion may be initiated by a higher expert like you.
Anita again you think out of the boxes and are now checking who should succeed these two aging singers, Alka and Shreya.😆 Excellent choice !Himani to succeed Sudhini too.
