Was away all week so only just caught up on the episodes.
Rekha Special: Boy, am I glad I watch online so I could fast forward everything but the performances. Such a cringeworthy episode. Rekha was totally OTT , she lost all dignity and made a complete ass of herself - she even tripped and fell on stage 😲 and her waah-waahs and looks of appreciation at the contestants' performance seemed so melodramatic, straight out of a 1960s movie! God! She embarrassed herself completely- glad I could skip over all those bits! 😛. However happened to catch Sindhu Tai's dancing 🤢- wish I could erase that scene from my head 🤡🤪

Coming to the performances:-

1. Vishnumaya: I loved her performance! What even was Monali talking about? That it wasn't her best? I thought she was terrific! In her first rendition of the mukhda, she went off, dragged her harkat a bit longer and therefore upset the rhythm, but thereafter she caught up beautifully. This song is on my all-time favorites list- in fact, the whole album is! What music by Khayyam! Asha Bhosle's best work! And poignant lyrics by Shahryar. Stuff of legends!

2. Harmony Chorus: They picked a song that suits their style to T and performed beautifully. Somewhere down the middle during the chorus they sounded a little noisy and chaotic - that is the danger they live with since there are so many of them and it could be hard to stay in sync all the time, but that's also their biggest strength and USP. They deserved all the accolades.

3. Rohanpreet: I'm so glad he picked this song- a different genre from what he's used to. He seemed to enjoy his performance and so did I. It's a fun, upbeat song and he should do more of these.

4. Zaid Ali: To tell the truth, this is not my favorite song. But I have to give it to Zaid. He performed it well. The judges seem to be biased with certain performances - they get tutaaris no matter what they do.

5. Mamta: I really liked her performance. What sets her apart is her confidence and her effortlessness when she sings. She hits high notes with elan. I was sorry to see her go. But I guess that is to be expected with the competition hotting up. I loved her positivity too. Hope she gains success wherever she goes.

I loved what the Akhtar Bros and Hemant did with "In aankhon ki masti mein". Wow - just wow! Brilliant! 👏

25th March:

The opening with the contestants singing with the judges was good- but Vishnumaya stood out for me. Lag ja gale is a very tough song to sing and it was clear who was the better performer- Monali was shamefully inadequate.

1. Hemant: He is clearly slated to be the finalist-if not the winner of this show. Amazing. I was impressed with Maithili last season and she proved why, but I preferred Hemant over her today. He was clearly in more control and I think Shankar pointed that out too.

2. Rainit: I loved him today. It was unfortunate he had to exit, but both Ameya and he did a fabulous job. I had never heard this song, but after his performance I wanted to go back and listen to the original. His voice is has all the right qualities for a good playback singer. Sad to see him go- but it seemed inevitable after the way the judges were putting him down last week. This one good performance couldn't save him- pity. Glad Ravi let him speak his heart out in the end. Wish him all the success.

3. Akhtar Bros: They are technically perfect but as always, they failed to move me. Again, they stick to their comfort genre. Cannot fault their singing but they need to rise a notch above just singing well and try and infuse a bit of emotion in their singing. Looks like the audiences and the judges don't care about that though. 😛

4. Afreen group: I'm surprised I'm rating them above Chetan, since I usually don't like their performances. But "Kajra Mohabbatwala" is one of my favorite songs and they sung it well. And I've always like Afsana.

5. Chetan: Although Bannet was terrific (as always) the rating is for the current contestants so Chetan is bottom for me. He needs to stop shouting and start singing. Maybe if he picked a slow, soft number? I don't know- the kid seems to think the only way to make an impact with a fast paced song is by screaming! 😕

Welcome Back @LizzieBennett 😊 Missed your reviews. It was a nice read.

Also guys this Chetan slander is making quite upset as I have a soft spot for him. He is such an adorable little kid. Seems like I am the only one who still belives in his singing. But yes his last few songs were a little weak. He is most likely to be eliminated this weekend. Just hope he sings something different this time and leaves with an amazing performance.

Thanks pjyo. I was away on vacation, so only just got caught up.
Thank the lord I skipped all of Rekha's bizarre behavior! I cannot afford to have Umrao Jaan's songs ruined for me. Rekha was never my favorite actress, Umrao Jaan is the only film I've liked her in besides Khoobsoorat. Unfortunately I was subjected to her melodrama during the performances! Was it during Zaid's performance that she turned her eyes and hands heavenward?? 🤪 Did she think she was doing a guest appearance on a Saas Bahu show?
She should take a leaf out of the book of her contemporaries and even some of the older actresses like Waheedaji who are so so dignified that you can't help but respect them! Rekha OTOH only inspires ridicule.
Bazaar is a great soundtrack, but I prefer Asha Bhosle's voice the way it sounds in Umrao Jaan over Lata's in Bazaar. That being said, "Phir Chidi raat" is to die for and I can play it on loop for hours on end. About "Seene mein jalan" - what can I say? It's about the city I grew up in - Mumbai in all its glorious dichotomy. The lyrics and the music (Jaidev) pierces the soul and tears the heart apart in shreds. Where's power that music had over listeners gone?

I think more than rekha 🤔muzaffar ali deserves the credit for her Umrao jaan performance-from kathak training to getting ex-nawab's suggestions for that authentic lucknawi feel ..
She is a competant actress in good movies but mostly did typical 80's formulae films plus those lady bachan type roles..
She does suit these ashaji's songs ,especially in umrao jaan, ijaazat and also another song in vijeta 'mann aanand' where she is doing morning riyaaz with tanpura -its absolutely divine..
lol, i was watching khoobsoorat repeats on doordarshan few days back,so funny ,i luv that terrace scene with ashokkumar on tablaa😆...

Totally agree on waheedaji👍🏼,no one has aged so gracefully, she doesn't need 2 kilos of makeup ,acts her age and talks with honesty ,no starry airs..She should visit these reality shows ...

Phir chiddi raat and bhupinder's karoge yaad' both i liked in bazaar..Dikhayi diye not so much because of the song situation ..
Its funny this bazaar and umrao jaan both the same farookh listening as audience to heroines who r somewhere stuck in the same situation🤔 but in completly different social strata..

Suresh wadekar singing seene mein jalan i heard first time on vividh bharthi , had no clue about movie storyline but those lines just stayed with me eversince,,,"aiina humein dekh ke hairan saa kyun hai'-what an amazing writers thought...much later i found out it was faarookh again in the song...
Jaidev deserved more appreciation🤔 ,there was such purity in his music⭐️... yeh dil aur unki is one of most beautiful songs ever⭐️ - like a butterfly dancing amongst flowers on a sunny hillside..
The music then had melody and meaningful lyrics ,now it seems more like noise pollution😵 ...
Hope these classics are still remembered and appreciated by the next generations...

I missed this post.. I guess because Zaid is a boy and boys take time to grow up as kids.. Girls around 12 yrs are more mature than boys, and their voice remains the same after that stage..
