No matter how much she felt amused at his now hot now cold mood, the truth is she could not understand him at all. And now it was not even right time to ponder, right now, she was in knee deep trouble. A moment he is praising her for her reporting skills, and a moment later, she felt becoming a prey of his infuriating words.
"MS. KASHYAP! "
Kabir Sharma, the Editor-in-Chief of KKN, shouted at her face, banging his hand on the table.
Alerted, ananya blinked, snapping from her reverie with reality facing her with truths she never ever intended to confront.
"Were you even listening?" His voice echoed in with an intensity that made her shudder.
" Ye - Yes Sir? " she stuttered, tilting her head slightly.
" Do you think this reporting and journalism as some kind of joke? Do you have even a tiny amount of respect? "
Ananya stared at him with wide eyes. Though she was quite habitual of getting reprimanded, today was something different. The sheer anger in his eyes frightened her.
Her dread at witnessing her inspiration in such fearsome avatar was quite evident. His eyes burned with anger, firing each and every glare at her with utmost legerity.
A deep sense of fear enveloped her as she stood, motionless before him, unable to comprehend his animosity towards her.
Fighting the urge to shoot back with even equal words, she held on to her silence knowing well that it was her mistake for not following his orders. She knew, in his eyes she had been unable to carry out her duties as a reporter.
Even in a situation like this, her mind kept wandering to that unknown call she'd received regarding a sensitive matter very close to her heart. Handing the reins of covering the rally to Richa, she'd sped off to find answers. Answers she'd been seeking for years. Answers about her father.
Yet, Mr. Kabir Sharma didn't give her a single moment to explain her circumstance. All she could do was to bear his immense hatred.
Without a glance back, Ananya walked out of his cabin with an inscrutable expression. Ignoring Ronny's and Trisha's cries she stormed out of KKN.
...
What did I do?
She had no intention of challenging Mr. Kabir again. His behavior towards her had been too hostile and filled with hatred to the brim. If he hated her that much, firing her wouldn't be difficult, right?
With a bang, she had thrown her bag and plunged on the bed. Shooing her mom and brother away, she resorted to thinking admist crying.
A sense of fulfillment was cornering her mind, as some questions could have been answered. But somehow, he ruined it. Right at the moment she'd have met that man, she was ordered to be present at KKN. No questions, no excuses. She felt she'd lost something precious. Kabir's behavior was too difficult to understand. If he was so opportunist to even understand his fellow reporters, he had no right to behave with her like that.
She cried herself to sleep by busying her mind with various excuses.
...
She'd woken up feeling even more horrible than the last night. Her senses were still in a dormant state, very much visible from her physical appearance. Her eyes were puffy and red from crying all night long. Hair and clothes disheveled with a frown plastered on her face.
With a irritated groan, she marched towards kitchen where she'd find her mother preparing something edible to eat. Her mind was still bogged by various questions that kept popping up. She had been so close to the truth, yet this man had to ruin it all. Why! She cursed.
She was about to vent out her anger on her mother and brother when she stopped dead in her tracks.
She blinked a couple of times.
Her mother gasped. Kabir-comfortably settled over dining table - stared at her with disbelief while munching on a paratha.
"Ananya! What happened? Look at you? " Her mother rushed to her side.
Ignorng her mother's words, she walked over and took the chair besides him.
Running her hand through her already messed up, curly hair she said in a formidable tone.
" 'Go. Unless you learn to respect your own profession. This is not your doll house for you to play and fool round. Grow up! And Don't you dare show me your face until you realize your own faults and amend them. Get that?!' Those were precisely your words. Am I right?"
Her eyes never left his.
"Yes. "
" And what makes you come ALL the way to MY house after saying EXACTLY those very words? "
He smiled.
" What if I accept I made a mistake? "
She was taken aback by his sudden submission.
" Why? " She asked narrowing her eyes.
He moved dangerously close to her and whispered. " Some questions are better left unanswered." he said grimly . " Anyways, there is an important lead regarding the call you received yesterday. I am supposed to meet that person in exactly forty-five minutes." he relaxed back.
She stared at him, dumbstruck. "How did you-!?"
"I have my sources, Ananya. " he smirked.
He got up and profusely thanked her mother for a wonderful breakfast.
"Not interested? " he quipped.
" I never said anything like that! " she shot back, fumbling with her bag strap. In a trance, she was running behind Kabir, as her mother and Armaan looked on, clueless.
