What is news? Who makes it? How is it made?
Sony Entertainment Television's latest presentation Reporters (Rose Audio Visuals) has all the answer. The first episode that was telecast yesterday night at primetime proved to be an edgy watch. The makers wasted no time by beating around the bush and introduced their trump card right away - Rajeev Khandelwal.
The man who was a television heartthrob once upon a time, showed yet again why there are not many in the industry who can match his class on the small screen. At the very outset, it is established that Rajeev (Kabir Sharma) is one of the most sought after journalists in town. The opening shot has him deliver a guest lecture at a prestigious journalism school explaining the true essence of news to rookie students. "Khabar ek nasha hai,"(News is a drug) proclaims Rajeev as the stunned class looks on.
The action then moves to the field where the pretty Kritika Kamra and her cameraman arrive at a hospital to capture the plight of a pregnant woman who had difficulty in reaching the hospital owing to American President's visit to Rashtrapati Bhavan. Fortunately, the baby is delivered well in time to avert any mishap and Kritika reports live about the incident. The reportage earns her rave review from her editor-in-chief but earns the flak of her news organization's boss who flays the Editor for running a news story where the baby and mother were both alive and kicking. The Editor is shown the door and feelers are sent out to Rajeev to join the company. The episode ends with Kritika and her cameraman getting busted up while shooting a sting operation involving the discreet marriage of an old politician with a young girl. And the hand behind the bust up was none other than of Rajeev.
The first episode of Reporters works perfectly like a teasing mini skirt worn by a leggy lass. It teases you, reveals a bit leaving you wanting more. That journalism is not the holier than thou land and Rajeev not the holy cow is established. This is a land where Darwin's survival of the fittest resonates at the highest octave.
Rajeev Khandelwal proves to be a complete showstealer. He is the perfect journalist. Suave, street smart and a glib talker. He has a nose for news and perfectly portrays the man who is ruthless when it comes down his knocking the sting out his competition.
Kritika Kamra plays the enthusiastic new reporter to the T. Her mannerisms are something we at Tellychakkar.com can perfectly identify with.
Sony deserves a good applause for spinning out the true behind-the-scenes tale of the goings on inside a newsroom. With a start like yesterday, we are sure more skeletons will tumble out of the closet and we won't be surprised if we see you questioning the well-known anchors and news items of our country after watching Reporters. Let truth prevail. Edited by ttrocks - 9 years ago
