It focuses specifically on the internal politics that were played out to prevent Razia from becoming the ruler in spite of her father selecting her as his heiress. OmG abhay ur timing is so perfect this ongoing in the show now😃

Great read Abhay

Shah Turkan was one evil woman, if only Ruknu-din was capable of ruling himself, she did have brains but used in the wrong purpose.

Looks like the cvs of the show are abou to show the same, Razia demanding help of the masses and them seizing Turkan.

Thanks alot for this valuable information,

Abhay

It is amazing to see the rise of Shah Turkan from a slave girl to the favorite queen and the way she managed to wield so much power after the demise of her husband at a time when the Turkish nobles frowned upon women occupying places of power and had done their best initially to prevent Razia from becoming the Sultana.

What an extraordinary woman who used her intelligence, unfortunately, for the wrong reasons! She seems to have set a precedent for the likes of Maham Anga later on.

Great post! Thank you for this insightful post about one of the earliest women who wielded power in Delhi. :)

While we are discussing the slave dynasty, it can be seen that many of the slaves were from good backgrounds who had been enslaved due to circumstances. For instance, Iltutmish himself was said to be from a Turkish noble family who was enslaved.

These slaves were extraordinarily talented, intelligent, courageous / reckless, and ambitious. Whether it was Iltutmish or Shah Turkan, it is amazing to note how former slaves rose to positions of pre-eminence in the Delhi Sultanate. Yaqut, who proved to be the undoing of Razia's glorious run as the first woman Sultan, too was an Abyssinian slave who rose to become Amir-ul-Umra.

Sonu,
Right assessment of Shah Turkan - had brains but put it to wrong use and somewhere this also proved to be undoing of her son.

They are rushing very fast it seems, to catch up with the closing date of this show.!
