Part 13
Iqtiaar entered the room and saw Razia standing near one of the candle stands with her back towards him. He closed the door trying to not make any noise, but the room was so quiet that the slightest of sound of the door closing made Razia turn. She saw her husband standing at the door looking at her. She looked back at him with the same expression that she had on her face for the last six days; absolutely blank. Iqtiaar looked into her eyes and a piercing pain in his heart made him fist his hands. Razia had always been quiet and shy to express her feelings. It was her eyes which conveyed her feelings to him from day one. The day when he had first gone to her house to ask for her hand she had been shy but he could still feel the happiness she was experiencing. But after the engagement night it was only pain that reflected in her eyes every time he saw her. He was getting a feeling from the day they met at the Dargah that something about her was missing since that very day. But today, her eyes were blank. Void of any kind of emotion. He was scared, scared to see her like this. It felt as if he was losing her with each passing day. Today in the eyes of the society he had rightfully made her his but the reality was that since the day he had met her he had never felt this unattached to her than today. He felt as if he was a stranger to her; a complete stranger.
Iqtiaar slowly walked towards his wife who for the last few days plastered a sweet artificial smile on her face every time she saw him trying to not make him feel guilty about anything. As he reached her, she slowly kept the candle back on the stand and tried to walk away to the dressing room to get ready when he caught hold of her hand. Razia turned around back to see her hand in his firm grip and him facing the other way.
Iqtiaar: I don't want to lose you. He whispered still looking away, his voice cracking.
Razia was speechless hearing him say that. It took her a little more than few seconds to process what exactly had he said. Iqtiaar turned around and Razia saw his eyes teary. He held her from both her shoulders and made her sit on the bed and knelt down next to her. He took both her hands in his and dared not look in her eyes because they were scaring him to death.
Iqtiaar: You remember that day when we met on the terrace? I wanted to tell you something. Something that I was told that I should not tell you as it would hurt you a lot and you deserve to be welcomed in this family with all the care and happiness that we all can give you. So I decided I would never let you know it. But then after our engagement, I realized how much not telling you have hurt you and our relationship Razia.
Razia kept looking at him curious about what he was going to tell her.
Iqtiaar: Razia. He whispered her name again realizing the imporatance of her in his life and then looked back into her eyes with a lot of strength. Kahan hai meri Razia? (Where is my Razia?) He said looking at her face which had no sign of happiness on it.
Razia swallowed the lump in her throat seeing him in so much of pain, but her eyes were still blank. Iqtiaar desperately wanted to see an emotion in her eyes. He cupped her face and continued.
Iqtiaar: I will not hide anything from you now that would create problems between us of any kind, no matter how cruel that might be. I want to tell you the reason for saying that to you on our engagement night.
Razia closed her eyes realizing that he would tell her again that he didn't love her. But then she composed herself, ready to hear the dark truth of her married life once again. Just what she didn't know was that her husband was going to tell her the darkest secret of his life.
Iqtiaar: I was nine years old, when I got to know that my mother was cheating on my dad. He said calmly.
Razia looked at him shocked. She suddenly became rigid and didn't know what expression did she have on her face at the moment, or was there any or not.
Iqtiaar: She left my father and divorced him leaving me and Shazia Aapi to live without a mother. My father had always loved her alot. He tried his best to take care of me and Aapi along with the business, but the fact that... that lady left him was eating him up from the inside with each passing day. He had started taking sleeping pills. Stress due to business and the responsibility of two kids was not easy for him to deal with. Five years later when I was fourteen I lost him too. He committed suicide Razia. The love for that lady killed him. Hatred for his mother clearly reflected in each and every sentence that he said.
Razia looked at him with wide eyes. She just didn't know if what she was hearing was really what he was saying or not.
Iqtiaar: It's just not that. He said looking into her eyes now. What surprised Razia was that his eyes weren't teary anymore. They were just red, full of pain.
Iqtiaar: You know Shazia Aapi well, don't you? Isn't she one of the best people in today's world? He asked her desperately. Razia nodded slightly unable to react to anything that he was saying. She just kept staring at him trying to process the sequence of events that he was telling her.
Iqtiaar: Then why does everyone look down upon her just because she has a burnt leg? God knows how many families came and saw her and then rejected her saying she can't even walk properly. Is that what you call love; loving someone because he/she can walk and talk properly? Just because someone has a beautiful face or a beautiful body is enough to get married to that person?
Razia shook her head slightly.
Iqtiaar: There isn't any such thing as love Razia. There never was and there never will be. Marriage is only about commitment. Being committed to your partner and doing everything in your say to keep the person happy and what is for their good. And I promise you, I'll always keep you happy, no matter what the circumstances are. He said smiling at her and his eyes reflecting the genuine feelings he had for her.
Iqtiaar: Please, please I need you in my life beside me, always!
Razia just smiled at him, her smile reaching her eyes for the first time in the last one week. She moved her hand and caressed his left cheek lovingly which he held in his hand and kissed. Iqtiaar sighed and looked back at her with mischief in his eyes.
Iqtiaar: Thank god! I finally got that smile back. He chuckled. And I have to tell you this, don't you ever, ever do this again to me.
Razia looked at him confused and asked him what with her eyes.
Iqtiaar: Your eyes, they talk to me. Don't let them be void of your feelings ever again.
Razia just started giggling at his comment and hugged him. She noticed how he really meant his words. Within a few seconds he had forgotten all his pain just to make her feel happy and light. She remembered her mother's words about him.
Flashback: Qutub: I see a strong man in Iqtiaar. A man who doesn't just believe in what others tell him like your father does. He is a man who has the capability to judge people well and who can fight for his loved ones if needed. He's not like Altamush. Her voice held pride for him.
Razia hugged him close, when the door flung open and Shazia entered. Iqtiaar and Razia immediately moved away.
Shazia: Oops Sorry! Chhote Nawab I didn't know that you were here too or else I would have knocked and come. She teased.
Iqtiaar looked away embarrassed. Shazia: And yeah! Don't forget to lock the door next time, she said trying hard not to giggle.
Iqtiaar: Aapi please stop it!
Shazia: Alright now go from here. You don't need to change but Razia does and it's already very late. So you are requested to leave right now. She ordered him.
Iqtiaar went out half-heartedly smiling back at his wife once he was at the door.

Shazia took Razia to the dressing room and got her dressed with a lehenga cum saree. Razia wore the Khandani neckpiece of the Malliks and matching earrings. She realized how each jewelry piece of the Mallik Family was heavy as hell. Forget about wearing such heavy jewelry, Razia wasn't even used to wearing such heavy traditional wear. Never in her life before, had she worn such heavy sarees. In fact she had only worn sarees only once or twice before. She was used to wearing jeans and modern dresses like other young girls because that's what she wore in day to day life. All these wedding ceremonies had made her really tired. Still she put on her best smile and tried to look fresh. She saw as Shazia effortlessly worked to get her ready. Razia had to just sit down but it was Shazia who was working nonstop still she did everything perfectly. Razia recalled Iqtiaar's words and felt really bad for Shazia. Shazia made Razia wear bangles and smiled at her noticing how Razia kept staring at her.
Shazia: What?
Razia: You are very nice Aapi, and I am very lucky to have got a sister-in-law like you.
Shazia: I know, but I am just little bit luckier than you are. Because I have got a sweet little sister like you! She said with a wide smile on her face. Just then there was a knock on the door. Shazia went to see who it was and it was Iqtiaar.
Iqtiaar: Can I please get my room for some time to freshen up and not look as if I haven't slept for days?
Shazia: Of course! Who's stopping you? Iqtiaar raised an eyebrow like "You DID!"
Iqtiaar went in and went straight in the bathroom. He didn't see Razia as she was in the dressing room in the suite. Shazia came back to Razia and told her that she will go downstairs now, and Razia can come with Iqtiaar, once he's ready. Razia smiled back at her and nodded.
Iqtiaar came out of the bathroom looking much more presentable and fresh and called for Razia.
Iqtiaar: Razia I am ready. Let's go!
Razia: yes, just a minute. I am almost done. Iqtiaar looked towards the direction of the dressing room which had its door partially open. He saw something like a bright pink and purple shade Dupatta falling on the floor and Razia's long lustrous hair swinging to-and fro as she brushed her hair one last time. He moved a bit forward and pushed the door open to see his beautiful wife turn and face him.
This is what Razia wore for the Reception:
Iqtiaar stood rooted at his position to see Razia look more beautiful than ever. The color of the lehenga really complimented her skin tone but the bit of the maang tikka on her fore head, his Khandani necklace giving her a royal look and her neck piece, which just reached till her collarbones, were the things which made her look so desirable to him. On seeing him not moving or saying anything, she moved slowly towards him feeling shy under his gaze and softly slipped her hand in his under the elbow.
Razia: Shall we? She said looking the other way trying to hide her blushing cheeks from him.
Iqtiaar smiled a slight sweet smile and whispered: Hmm.

During the whole reception as the guests came to wish the couple, all Razia could do was to stare at Iqtiaar. She kept staring at him lost in her thoughts. Even after trying so much she just couldn't stop thinking about the events of his life he had shared with her. She looked at him once again as he spoke confidently and with a smile on his face to a friend of Mamu jaan. He was indeed a very strong man, who knew how to keep a control over his emotions and to behave how he was expected to with respect to where he was. She had always loved him, but today she had developed a whole new emotion for him; respect for her HUSBAND. Yes, her husband; He had given her new perspective to a marriage. The word she hated all her life and never wanted to experience, now she wanted to experience each and every bit of it with him. She realized that even after reading so much about him she hardly knew the REAL him. But now she wanted to know everything about him. And the best part was that she knew that now she had a chance to make him love her and she would definitely do that. But she knew it would take time. They both needed time to understand each other and she definitely needed much more than him. She somewhere knew that it would be tougher for her to give their marriage a fair chance than him. But she would do everything in her capabilities make her marriage a success unlike her parents. She was still looking at him smiling when he turned to face her with a smile on his face and took her left hand in his. He kissed her hand just above her pink diamond wedding ring and there was a sudden outburst of everyone around them clapping. That's when Razia came out of her trance and realized that they were still in the crown hall for their reception dinner.
JY stood on a huge stage wearing a tuxedo with a mike in his hand. JY: Ladies and gentlemen for Iqtiaar and Razia he raised a toast to them wishing them a happy married life. Razia was pleasantly surprised when a huge wedding cake was brought in for the couple to cut.
Zaroon and Chanda came to them and took them in the middle of the Hall where the cake was kept on a huge table. The family members came and stood near them around the table as both Iqtiaar and Razia cut their wedding cake. Just after they finished cutting it and everyone congratulated them, suddenly the lights went off. Razia being scared tried to catch hold of Iqtiaar's hand, as he was next to her a minute ago, but she couldn't reach him. Everyone else was too shocked and busy talking when suddenly a spotlight fell on Razia. She held her hand in front of her face as the light hurt her eyes but then slowly removed it as a song started playing. She saw another spotlight on Iqtiaar who stood at a distance from her and had a microphone attached.
Please play this in the background now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvpyAKNBxQc
Music: As the music started playing she saw him coming towards her, his eyes fixed on her with a devilish smile on his face. She tried to look elsewhere but it was so dark that she couldn't see a soul in the room except themselves. He reached her and took her both hands keeping on his shoulders and held her from her bare waist.
When the night has come
When the night has come and the land is dark
When the night has come
When the night has come and the land is dark
And the moon is the only light
And the moon is the only light
And the moon is the only light we will see
So darlin', darlin'
A beam of pink light in one corner of the room got lit under which Laila, JY, Zaroon and Chanda stood singing the English part written up with a bunch of musicians who had specially come all the way from London for this surprise for Razia. Razia saw them and smiled when Laila waved a hi' to her excitedly.
Razia: What is this happening? She whispered to Iqtiaar immediately.
Iqtiaar: Surprise! he whispered back in her ear before starting to sing the verse below.
O mehrma mere mehrma
O poori hai duaa
Abb kuch bhi toh kam nahi
Tujhe paa ke lage mukammal hai khuda
He sang this part slow dancing with her, letting her know how important she was for him. He swung her around and she landed back on his chest when he sang the last line. Razia was way too shocked and surprised.
O rehnuma o mere rehnuma
O o..o tere naam saa ab koi bhi lafz nahi
Padhkar dekhe sau kitabe sau dafaa
The Dance became a little faster and the moves difficult for Razia to follow. But there was something magical about the two that any third person looking at them both right now could have never guessed that they were dancing together for the very first time.
Dildara dildara ye ratti bhar ka jag saara
Dildara Dildaara tere nazar o karam pe sab waara
Dildara dildara jag jeeta jab tujhse haara
Razia started to enjoy the dancing as she moved swiftly with him and his constant smiling looking down at her face filled her with so much of happiness as she had never felt before.
JY, Laila, Zaroon and Chanda chorus:
Dildara dildara
Darling, darling stand by me
Com'n stand by me
Stand by me
Darling, darling stand by me
Com'n stand by me
Stand by me
Iqtiaar swung Razia along and made her face a huge screen which suddenly started playing a video when the Sa ni sa music started playing with her pictures clicked in different moods at different times during the past one week.
Sa ni sa...
Razia stood staring at the screen as one by one her pictures flashed on the screen. Iqtiaar bent down and whispered in her ear: Like the surprise wify? He winked at her.
When the night has come and the land is dark
and moon is the only light
when the night has come and the land is dark
She turned around to look at him with teary eyes and a smile on her face and kept her hands on his neck caressing the slight rough stubble on his jaw. She so wanted to kiss him senseless at this moment.
JY along with Laila and Zaroon with Chanda joined them this time on the stage. The three couples started dancing under three beams of light.
Darlin' darlin'
O rehmana o mere rehmana o o tujhse waasta (and the moon is the only light)
Tu manzil hai aur tu hi uss manzil ke aagee ka rasta (when the land is dark)
Iqtiaar pulled Razia more towards him and danced with her with Razia smiling a toothy smile for the very first time may be.
Dildara dildara ye ratti bhar ka jag saara
Dildara Dildaara tere nazar o karam pe sab waara
Dildara dildara jag jeeta jab tujhse haara
Dildara dildara
Darlin' darlin' stand by me...
