Lucknow (PNS): Actress
Pankhuri Awasthi believes that
she got the lead role of Razia
Sultan for the show by the same
name because she belongs to
Lucknow and hence had an
edge over the others as far as
the nuances of Hindi and Urdu
language were concerned. The
actress was in the city along
with the actor, Rohit Purohit,
for the promotion of the show
on Saturday. In a chat with The
Pioneer, she said that she would
do her best in promoting
Lucknow in any way she could.
"There were over three
lakh girls from which I was
selected after the audition and
the only edge I had over them
was that I had a better command
over the Hindi language
and was well conversant with
the culture of the city," she said.
Talking about her character,
she said that she had carried
out extensive research for
Razia Sultan. "I have carried
out extensive research for the
character of Razia Sultan as far
as I could. The story basically
moves on the lines of how
Razia becomes a political
leader. Razia Sultan as a character
is not just strong but also
dynamic.
Not only does she
have to prove her worth as a
Sultan but also save her relationship
with Mirza," said
Pankhuri." Having studied at a
local school the actress said that
she had also participated in a
workshop at the Bhartendu
Natya Akademi.
Talking about the challenges
of doing the role, she
said that getting into that mode
of time was a challenge. "It is
easy to carry out roles which
belong to this period but it is
a little challenging to enact the
character of a period that is in
the bygone era," she said.
On being asked how she
would promote the city in her
future ventures, she said that
she would do it in any way it
was possible.
