I like to beat up on this show, too, but this is one thing that might be historically accurate. I mean, not Krishna or text specific, but anthropologically speaking, bone flutes are the oldest musical instruments. Not cannibalistic, but made from bones of dead relatives. Bamboo flutes were the norm in India, but China had bone, iron, and bamboo. Since Kailash is supposed to be in the vicinity of Tibet, we can assume Shiva might have had access to bone flutes. That's not to say he gave one to Krishna who most likely did have a bamboo flute.
