Hi HearMeRoar

Could you help me with this blog.

According to him Karna is called as trunk of spiritual tree and the main protagonist by Vyasa.

According to this BORI calls both Draupadi humiliation and Karna's involvement in Bheem Poisoning as Interpolation

Could you share your views on this

BORI CE, Vol 1, Anukramanika Parva

‘Duryodhana is a great tree created out of passion, Karna is its trunk, Shakuni is itsbranches, Duhshashana is the plentiful fruit and flowers and the mindless Dhritarashtra is itsroot. Yudhishthira is a great tree created out of righteousness, Arjuna is its trunk, Bhima is itsbranches, the two sons of Madri27 are its plentiful fruit and flowers, and Krishna, Brahmaand the Brahmanas are the root.

65 duryodhano manyumayo mahādrumaḥ; skandhaḥ karṇaḥ śakunis tasya śākhāḥ

duḥśāsanaḥ puṣpaphale samṛddhe; mūlaṃ rājā dhṛtarāṣṭro 'manīṣī

66 yudhiṣṭhiro dharmamayo mahādrumaḥ; skandho 'rjuno bhīmaseno 'sya śākhāḥ

mādrī sutau puṣpaphale samṛddhe; mūlaṃ kṛṣṇo brahma ca brāhmaṇāś ca

Debroy sir has translated manyumayo as "of passion." It translates better to of wrath or resentment. So the above mentioned blog is wrong in calling Karna the trunk of spiritual tree.

BORI CE, Vol 1, Adi-vamshavatarana Parva, 55

‘“Thereupon, the evil-minded Duryodhana, with Karna and the son of Subala,13 tried tobanish them and oppressed them in various ways. That evil son of Dhritarashtra gave poisonto Bhima with his food, but the warrior Vrikodara14 digested it. One day, the evil one tiedthe sleeping Vrikodara on the banks of the Ganga and throwing Bhima into the water wentaway to the city. But when the son of Kunti woke up, he tore the ropes with which he wastied with his strong arms and Bhima’s pains disappeared. While he was asleep, he was bitteneverywhere in his body by black snakes with virulent poison, but that destroyer of enemiesdid not die. However, in all this oppression, the great-souled Vidura was always on guard, toneutralize the evil plans and save them from oppression.

CE does not call Karna's involvement in Bheema's poisoning interpolation.

BORI CE, Dyuta Parva, 286 (61)

When the noise died down, Radheya, whowas almost senseless with anger, gripped his lustrous arms212 and uttered these words, “Ihave witnessed many distortions in Vikarna. Like fire destroys the block from which it hasbeen kindled, his destruction will come from the fire he has created. Though urged byKrishna, those who are assembled here have not uttered a word. I consider that Drupada’sdaughter has been won in accordance with dharma, and so do they. O son of Dhritarashtra!Out of childishness, you alone are being torn to bits. Though but a child, you speak in thissabha what should be spoken by elders. O Duryodhana’s younger brother! You do not knowthe reality of what dharma is. Like one with limited intelligence, you proclaim that Krishna

has not been won, when she has been won. O Dhritarashtra’s son! How can you think thatKrishna has not been won? In this sabha, the eldest Pandava staked everything he possessed.O bull among the Bharata lineage! Droupadi is included in all his possessions. When Krishnahas been won in accordance with dharma, how can you think she has not been won?Droupadi was mentioned in the speech and the Pandava approved. According to what reasondo you then think that she has not been won? If you think that bringing her into the sabhawhen she is clad in only a single garment is against dharma, listen to the words I have to sayin response. O descendant of the Kuru lineage!213 It has been ordained by the gods that awoman should only have one husband. However, she submits to many and it is thereforecertain that she is a courtesan. It is my view that there is nothing surprising in her beingbrought into the sabha in a single garment, or even if she is naked. In accordance withdharma, Soubala has won all the riches the Pandavas possessed, including her andthemselves. O Duhshasana! This Vikarna is only a child, though he speaks words of wisdom.Strip away the garments from the Pandavas and Droupadi.” O descendant of the Bharatalineage! On hearing these words, the Pandavas took off their upper garments and sat down inthe sabha. O king! Then Duhshasana forcibly tugged at Droupadi’s garments. In front ofeveryone in the sabha, he forcibly pulled. O lord of the earth! As Droupadi’s garment wasbeing tugged away, another similar garment appeared every time.214 At this, a terribleuproar arose. All the assembled kings witnessed the most extraordinary sight in the worldsand approved.

If the blogger is talking about the Prologmena, I happen to have a copy. There is no mention of either the poisoning or the assault being interpolations. Nor does it say Karna was the trunk of the spiritual tree.

I was feeling masochistic, so I actually read that blog post 😆.

Manyumayo = of wrath or resentment

Manyu = Passion, rage, anger, spirit (not spiritual)

He's trying to pass off spirit as spiritual.

The 1st sentence in poisoning episode mentions Karna, but the 2nd sentence which actually contains the plot does not. Poor Vyasa. 😆

Re: Panchali episode. She was wearing one garment. Forget the fact he wouldn't know if women went topless in "those days," stripping the one garment meant she was made completely naked. I don't understand where he is getting the impression Karna didn't order that assault.

Mention of vastrahara outside the dice hall This from CE- Gada yudh parva.

Having attained the other shore of the enmity, Vrikodara laughed and softly spoke these words to Yudhishthira, Keshava, the Srinjayas, Dhananjaya and Madri’s two sons. ‘Droupadi was in her season and they disrespected her. They deprived her of her garment there. Behold. Through Yajnaseni’s39 austerities, in the battle, the sons of Dhritarashtra have been slain by the Pandavas.
