Gossip doesn’t bother Sangeeta

Whoever said TV stars are not happening, haven't met Sangeeta Ghosh. Voted as the sexiest television actress, Sangeeta is making waves with her new serial Rabba Ishq Na Hove. Call her the next big actress and she giggles. Compliment her on her acting skills, she reacts modestly; ask her about the man in her life and she breaks into a loud laughter. Sangeeta is currently shooting for a serial in Dubai, after which she'll be hosting a show on Star One.

Excerpts from an interview

How old were you when you started acting?
Ten years. I started with a serial that was aired on Doordarshan. Called Hum Hindustaani, Hrishikesh Mukherji had directed it. Since then I've been acting on and off but never out of it. After cable TV started I acted in a serial directed by Lekh Tandon. It was called Daraar. During this time Lekhji advised me about considering a career in acting. He was a visionary. He told me then TV will go a long way and advised me to consider a serious career in TV.

From then to now, TV has come a long way. Your comments.
There's been a sea change. Though I acted in a number of serials, when cable TV started none knew about me or for that matter too much about any TV actors. Now TV actors are given a much better deal than they were earlier. A career in television is rewarding. Money-wise too TV pays very well. I'm happy that I started with Lekh Tandon and took his advice seriously. Viewers too have a wide choice. Soaps, game shows, movies and what not — TV provides everything in our bedroom.

You've bagged the best roles in Aruna Irani's serials so far. In fact, your first serial Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chand, shot you into fame. You are said to be her favourite. How does it feel?
What's wrong if Aruna Irani likes me. I respect her a lot and am very fond of her too. What's wrong in one person liking another? But I do not agree to the fact that Arunaji casts me because she likes me. There have been many projects where I did not work with Arunaji.

She will offer me a project only if she thinks I can do justice to the role. Likewise, I accept or refuse an offer based on how good it is. I'm not bothered about gossip and am sure Arunaji too doesn't care. I'm happy the way I am and have no regrets. I'm lucky to have mentors and friends like Lekhji and Arunaji.

Your forthcoming projects?
My forthcoming project Nach Baliye, is different from what I've been doing till date. I'm hosting the show. It should be exciting. This is my first project as a host, but we are yet to start shooting.

Who are your favourite co-stars?
It's difficult and would be unfair to name one of them. I have worked with so many people and each one of them is close to me. I enjoy everyone's company on the sets.

What about acting in movies?
It's a good idea. Will wait for the right offer.
