Actress Sangeeta Ghosh, who plays Veera in Zee daily Rabba Ishq Na Hove, has been getting sleepless nights courtesy a deluge of calls from across the border.
The actress has been getting 70 to 80 blank calls from different numbers in Pakistan throughout the day and after midnight – on her land-line as well as cell number. Gujarat fan
Fresh out of a tangle with an obsessed fan from Gujarat, the Bengali belle doesn't know how to deal with this new mess. Around six months back, an unknown person would call her introducing himself as an insider from the Gujarati film industry, who wanted to cast her in regional films.
He would insist on meeting her and spend quality time with her. When Ghosh refused to give in to his demands, he started threatening her, saying he knew a lot of goons and would ask them to make life hell for her. After lodging a police complaint at MIDC, Andheri (East), the caller was traced and was given a dressing down by the cops. No abusive language
Of the Pakistan calls, Ghosh says, "The callers don't use abusive language, nor do they threaten me. They are mute, but I often hear women as well as men whispering and talking among themselves in the background."
The actress has been futile in her attempts to make the callers speak. It has been three months now that she has been flooded with such calls and they have been increasing every day. Says Ghosh, "It has been growing in leaps and bounds with Rabba Ishq Na Hove going on air this August." Dubai production
When asked about any suspects she has in mind, she says, "I had done this 15-episode serial for GeoTV, titled Sada Suhagan, where I was playing the lead character last year in August. The production house was based in Dubai. After the soap was on air, I had quite a fan following and was approached for extensive interviews by the press there. I remember giving out my contact numbers to them. They may have leaked it out." Family affected
Back at home in Mahakali, Andheri (East), mother Nitu Ghosh says, "This has become a part and parcel of our lives. I think it's one of the disadvantages of being a public icon. But we don't get stressed out these days. It's up to my daughter to decide what she wants."
When quizzed about remedial measures, the actress says, "It's very irritating to get calls at weird hours. I'm not nervous at all. At times it appears funny too. It looks like they're an awe-struck bunch of fans and I can't lodge a police complaint to avoid them."
