Every era has its taboos. I am not against anything that I have done myself"
Reva > Hi, when and how did you think of reinventing yourself after being an actress in Bollywood's some of the biggest blockbusters?
Aroona Irani > The first time I felt like reinventing myself was while acting in Gujarati films, I tried my hand at writing. At the time I felt that if I got a chance to write scripts, I would definitely do it. After working so many years as an actress, it was getting a bit monotonous. I think that happens to every actor. So I took over another job as a director, which gave me a boost. And that director within (me) pushed the actress in me.
Gurya2005 > Your kids are working in media too? This is my request to you – please so some work in Pakistani serials too.
Aroona Irani > I have no kids. I would love to do anything relating to Pakistan or anywhere.
Bombaytogoa > Aroona Irani ji. How are you doing? You won't believe, I m a great fan of yours, ever since Bombay to Goa. Beta, Caravan, Farz, Waaris, Garam Masala etc. Why don't you make movie appearances like Beta again?
Aroona Irani > Now I have started thinking of doing it, as I have stopped directing TV serials. Now I will get time to do films.
Rahul_delhi_se > What difference do you see between dancers of yesteryears like you and Helenji and dancers of today like Isha Kopikkar, Koena Mitra, Mallika, etc? Which is your favourite film and favourite dance number from among the ones you did?
Aroona Irani > Favourite film - my viewers have to decide and my favourite dance number - Dilbur Dil Se Pyare ( Caravan ). The times have changed so the style of dancing might have changed but I strongly believe that old time dance was much better because it proved itself in Taal (later). The movie had old style dances and folk dances as well.
Aparna_mazumder_13 > Rabba Ishq Na Hove is a nice emotional love story. I am enjoying watching it. Please do not kill Varun Badola in the serial (plays Vira's husband). Actors Sangeeta and Varun make a terrific pair.
Aroona Irani > But who says he is dying? Thank you for appreciating the story.
Bombaytogoa > Aroonaji. Which movie of yours do you feel was the toughest and had your best performance? Which movie will always be special to you? Aroona Irani > Raja Babu was very tough. Beta was also very tough, and one film I did with Mr. K Viswanath (director) was very difficult. It was called Aurat . Beta of course will always be special because that changed my career. After that film people started accepting and taking me in emotional and pivotal roles. My best performance is yet to come.
Rita > Do you think item numbers and remixes are here to stay or they are just a passing fad? Do you personally approve of remixing of old film numbers?
Aroona Irani > People are liking the remixes, as the words are really good and now-a-days very few good lyrics are being churned out. Initially, the dance movements in the item numbers looked new and fresh but now the dresses and the movements all appear same. They should change it a bit and make it different, and I am sure they can do it.
Bombaytogoa > Aroonaji, film industry is a man's world. How does a woman survive in it?
Aroona Irani > I think no world can survive without a woman. You need them as your mother, sister, daughter etc. So, how can the film industry live without us!
Kkarishma > What was the most challenging part for you on television?
Aroona Irani > The first time I directed Mehnedi Tere Naam Ki, it posed a challenge for me, as it was my first effort on TV. The director, as you know is responsible for the failure and success of the show.
Rabba > Who has been your inspiration?
Aroona Irani > My mother because she always felt that I could achieve anything. As a child, when my father was on his deathbed, he regretted that he had a daughter instead of a son who was the eldest in the family. An elder son, he thought, could take care of the family. It always used to pinch in my heart that it was so awful to be a woman. But my mom used to support me. She had faith in me that I could achieve everything and anything possible on this earth. She regarded me as the "Son" of the family.
Loony > When choosing a story, what do you have in mind?
Aroona Irani > When I think of a story, and if it touches me for I am a hard nut to crack, I get the assurance that it will work.
Mona > Why is there a paucity of good scriptwriters in the industry today?
Aroona Irani > Even I don't know the answer to this. I am also searching for that because I need good writers.
Nannu > Hi Aroonaji. Why is Sangeeta Ghosh always plays the main lead in all your soaps/serials? Any specific reason?
Aroona Irani > Because she suits my role. She is a fantastic actress and very professional. However, the next show that I am making will not have Sangeeta in it because the role doesn't suit her.
Rahul_delhi_se > How much do you think the character of woman is justified in theses saas-bahus soaps of today?
Aroona Irani > I have not made any such stories so I do not have an idea on that.
Aruna_fan > You have done some questionable exposing scenes in the era when short skirts were a crime! Are you for or against skin-show?
Aroona Irani > I am not against anything which I have done myself but if you look at that period those dresses were a taboo and now what they are wearing is a taboo too. So every era has its taboos.
