Barkha does a La Tagore
As protagonist in the show 'Babul ki Bitiya…' the actor has drawn from Sharmila's classic portrayal in 'Anupama'.
Barkha Bisht is Aroona Irani's protagonist in her recent production 'Babul ki Bitiya Chali Doli Saja Ke' (Sahara). Barkha plays Anupama who is termed 'manhoos' by her father (Anuj Saxena) as her birth coincides with the death of her mother. This is Barkha's second serial as the lead after 'Pyaar Ke Do Naam-Ek Raadha, Ek Shyaam'.
Talking about the homework that she did for her character Anupama, Barkha reveals, "I was asked to watch films 'Anupama' and 'Sujata' (the films starring Sharmila Tagore and Nutan respectively showed women being slighted by fate). I tried to adopt Sharmila Tagore's body language and nuances as seen in 'Anupama'." Incidentally, Sharmila's 'Anupama' also dealt with a story of a neglected daughter who was termed 'unfortunate' by her father due to similar reasons as in Barkha's show.
Barkha continues, "My role is challenging as it portrays an introverted person who has seen only hatred." Incidentally, Barkha was selected through a talent hunt contest and debuted with the show 'Kitni Mast Hai Zindagi'. She also worked at a call centre as voice and accent trainer before joining TV.
