In another life...

Here's a serial that doesn't take generation leaps. Protagonists are reborn instead

Jaya Biswas

So far television serials have been all about 20-year leaps. But here's a new one. Kavita Barjatya's Pyaar Ke Do Naam - Ek Raadha Ek Shyaam doesn't just take generation leaps. It takes leaps through rebirth. The protagonists are born again and again searching for their lost love, while the surroundings and peripheral characters change with every birth.

This is producer Kavita Barjatya's second venture after Woh Rehne Wali Mehlon Ki, and delves on the reincarnation theme. One recalls that Balaji's Kahiin Kissi Roz…, which ran on similar lines met with a lukewarm response. But irrespective of all speculations about the serial not working with the audience, Kavita and her director Kaushik Ghatak, have actually managed to silence the critics with an intriguing storyline.

So, what made Kavita come up with the idea of rebirth leaps? She replies, "I guess, a leap was inevitable. Since my subject is reincarnation, the leaps had to be rebirth leaps. Viewers want to see a new faces take over after a while. It's a healthy trend. It keeps both the makers and the viewers on their toes."

Indraneil Sengupta, who now plays Krish in Pyaar Ke…, says, "I don't mind at all. This is not the first time that a serial has been made on the theme of reincarnation. Anything which is shown convincingly will appeal to the audience. This is my third birth, after Kisna and Shyaam. Krish aka Krishna is an introvert who keeps to himself. Having completed his studies from London, he returns to India, only to find that he cannot relate to the other male members in his family. He does not approve of violence and does not consider it to be a manly attribute. Eventually he will meet Raadhika (Barkha Bisht), his beloved from his previous birth. The story progresses thereon."

β€’ A leap was inevitable. Since my subject is reincarnation, the leaps had to be rebirth leaps. Viewers want to see a new faces take over after a while. It's a healthy trend. It keeps both the makers and the viewers on their toes β€” Kavita Barjatya
