Rani on the small screen?
Hey no, it's only Karishma Tanna whose upcoming role is uncannily similar to Rani Mukherjee's in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai

After completing the serial Paalkhi, actress Karishma Tanna is bracing herself for her new role in Rajshri's Pyar Ke Do Naam Ek Raadha Ek Shyaam, a daily soap on Star Plus. Here, Karishma plays the second lead, the character of a foreign-returned Jiyati.
Apparently, Jiyati is inspired from Rani Mukherjee's character of Tina Malhotra in Karan Johar's Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998).
Karishma says, "My role of Jiyati in Pyar Ke⦠is similar to Rani's portrayal of Tina in KKHH. Jiyati is also from London, has an Indian upbringing, and even her look is similar to Tina's. But all this is a mere coincidence. I'm not intentionally aping Rani. It's by fluke that both characters are based on the same lines."
Karishma is thrilled about her introductory sequence in the serial. She says, "When I was told that my first scene would involve me playing a guitar I was really excited. That's because, in real life I love playing the guitar and have also undergone professional training. Music is my first love." Could it be just another coincidence that Rani's charcter in KKHH also plays the guitar?
Karishma reiterates, "I agree that there are certain inevitable similarities, but none are intentional. I'm not doing a take on Rani. I want Jiyati to be unique in her own way."
Incidentally, Karishma had a rather eventful first day of shooting. "The moment I landed on the sets I was introduced to my co-stars. While talking to actor Indraneil Sengupta (he plays the lead role), we realised that, at 5'9", I was taller than him! The director who initially felt that height wouldn't be a problem panicked when he saw us standing together! He asked me to remove my stilettos. I ended up doing most of the scenes in flat chappals," she laughs.
The episode starring Karishma will be telecast around the first week of June. We are sure that Rani Mukherji has enough reason to feel flattered.
