Barkha Bisht seems to be having a run of bad luck lately. First it was her cold war with Ekta Kapoor that kept her in news, now it is her accident on the sets of Pyar Ke Do Naam Ek Radha Ek Shyaam that has turned the spotlight on her. "I seem to be going through a bad phase," says Barkha.
Barkha met with an accident while doing some dare-devil stunts for the serial. Although she had the option of using a stuntwoman, she chose to do them herself.
"I was informed about the stunts some time ago," she says. "I had to climb a hill, bare-footed. Actually I was required to run up and down the hill many times, and I knew that it would be difficult. But I did not ask for a stuntwoman for those scenes as I wanted to do them myself. During the shoot, I hurt my leg and got a few cuts on my hand as well."
The actress was in terrible pain and was limping all through the scene. "I was injured but I didn't want to create a fuss on the sets," she says. "Knowing the Barjatyas, they would have called for pack-up. And I didn't want that."
However, her make-up man and other acquaintances realised that she was badly hurt and rushed her back to the hotel. What followed the next day left the actress and the entire unit zapped. Sources say that Barkha actually refused a stuntwoman yet again, and continued to shoot. "She was limping all day," our source reveals. It was around six in the evening when the crew began shooting, since they wanted to can certain scenes in fading light. Barkha, who was wearing a ghagra choli, was standing on top of the hill when she slipped. People present on the sets say that she rolled down and fell into the river below.
"Yes, I did fall into the river," says Barkha. She says that she tried to break her fall, but in vain. "Perhaps I could've saved myself from rolling down and landing up in the river if my foot hadn't been so swollen. Given the painful state of my foot, I could not do much."
Who rescued her? "All the unit members were panic-stricken and two men immediately jumped into the water to pull me out," she replies. "The producers immediately called for a pack-up and asked me to take it easy for a while."
