Emperor Akbar respected minorities and other religions thus there wasn't any conflict between Akbar and Sikhism. After Guru Amardas ji, his successor ( 1574) was Guru ramdas ji, the 4 th Guru who happened to be his son-in -law, married to Guru Amardas ji's daughter Bibi Bhani ji.
Guru Amandas ji ordered Guru Ramdas ji to develop a new city, the city of Amritsar. It was also known as Ramdaspur. He bought 500 Bighas of Land from the Land dord of village Tung for 700 Rupees. He started digging of Santokh Sarowar or Amrit sarowar in 1577.
Our Fifth Guru Arjun dev ji was Guru Ramdas ji's youngest son, who became Guru in 1581.
Guru Arjundev ji, Emperor Akbar & Emperor Jahanjir:
Chadu Shah was Emperor Akbar's Diwan or finance minister and was based in Delhi. He had a daughter named Sada kaur. Max Arthur Macauliffe writes in The Sikh Religion vol. iv, pg. 71 -
It hath therefore became a practice of the Hindus to marry their daughters when very young, so it is our duty to provide for Sada kaur, and form an alliance with some respectable family.
Cnadu was of same opinion and sanding for family priest and his barbar, ordered them to go and search for a suitable husband for his daughter. The priest and barbar searched in every city as far as Peshawar but couldn't find any suitable match for sada kaur.
The priest and barbar reported to Chandu that they had seen Hargobind son of Guru Arjun dev in the new city of Amritsar. Chandu was very much interested in this respectable party. Guru Arjun dev ji asked the congregation if Sada kaur's mrriage proposal for Hargobind was suitable for his family and Sikh sangat. The sangat, specially siks of Delhi were not happy with this relationship as Chandu was bad mouthing and poisoning to Akbar against Holy Granth sahab and Sikhs. Therefore Guru Arjundevji refused to accept the marriage proposal for his son Hargobind. Thus Chandu became Guruji's enemy.
Unfortunately for the Guru the tolerant Emperor Akbar died soon after, and was succeeded by his son Jahanjir. Jahangir's son Khusro, nominated to the throne by Akbar in supersession of Jahangir, claimed the Punjab and Afganistan, which his father was unwilling to concede him. Jahangir accordingly desired to obtain possession of Khusro's person, but Khusro escaped from Agra pursued by the Imperial army and directed his steps towards Afganistan. On the way he visited Guru Arjundevji in Taran Taran and begged him to grant him pecuniary assistance. The Guru said that he had money for poors and not for princes. Khusro replied with great humility that he himself was now very poor, needy and unfriended, and had not even travelling expenses.
^^^Guru Arjun, seeing the prince's evil plight and humility, took compassion on him. He moreover, felt friendly to th price who had visited him a few times previously with Emperor Akbar; and also felt a debt of gratitude to the prince's grand father, the late monarch, so he gave him 5000 rupees to defray his army expenses to Kabul. Khusrow however was seized by the Emperor's troops as he was crossing the river Jhelam and taken in chains to his father.
Khusrow was thrown in prison and all his Generals and ministers were killed. He was spared because he was Jahangir's son. Guruji's enemies, Diwan Chandu and Prithia got an excuse and ploted conspiracies agaist Guruji.
Chandu's scheme proved successful. In a short time Emperor proceeded to Punjab. Guruji was asked to attend the court in Lahore. Before his departure to Lahore he appointed his son Hargobind his successor with all ancient ceremony and farmality.
