I'll reply in highlighted parts below the paragraphs of your comments, so that I don't miss out on anything...
First, thanks for the character sketch. I was loosing track, specially with Urmila side. So that helps a lot.
More that you all, I was getting confused trying to remember the names of all the new characters. Even when I posted the character sketch, I forgot to add Nishi's name. So it had become very important to make the list. I started adding the names as I started introducing the new characters.
So I re-read and adjusting my initial feedback. So I found the background very enlightening and its also giving me mixed feeling, between the elder passing they hate to the children and the consequences that follow. Aside from Pankaj who is the most reasonable or sensible one, the others are creating they own downfall like Prateek, Yash, Sanjeev children (legitimate or illegitimate; I had a feeling there since he had no respect for his wife).
Yes, Yash, Prateek, Sanjeev and his sons, Vikas and Aakash are all digging their own graves. The deeper they dig, the harder their downfall will be.
No Vikas and Aakash are Not Sanjeev's illegitimate sons, cause Hema gave birth to them.
Sassy, I was in two minds to show something in this fiction. After reading your comment, now I'll go ahead with it and show it. In fact it's not one, but two things. Something that I have never shown before. One of the things will come in the next chapter itself. The second one will come at the very end of this fiction. (We will have to wait for long for that)
Uday is horrible, I can't find any redeeming quality in him at all. And Gayatri being an intelligent woman managed to outsmart him when it was important or she would have greatly suffered too since she cannot count on SP to defend her in front of his father. I wonder if she doesn't regret marrying him sometimes even if she is glad with her baby. IS the price of love too high, probably since the consequences will be dramatic. At least she managed to get Maya her happy ending or she'll have end up bitter and angry all the time. The lack of consideration in this family for women is too much.
In Gayatri's defense, I'll say that she was too young when she got married. She was only 19 and barely 21 when she became a mother. Yet she was too intelligent to find ways to trick Uday for her own benefits, which was to fulfill her kids dreams and also to help Maya to get the love and care that Maya never got in her own parents house.
Poor Gayatri and Hema can see the disaster coming a mile away but powerless to stop it. I really like the fact that Pankaj is the voice of reason here and able to see people, his grandfather, for who he is, a selfish, cold, unforgiving, demanding, controlling jerk. When is SP going to wake up and take control or is it too late for him? But you made a good point with the cultural aspect. I can also understand the elders and the mainly the men words being law, because it's the same in my culture. Our Grandmother generation have suffered from this, they were not able to give their opinion, or wishes something or think of going against their spouse or the man of the family. And your portrays tis thru Geeta. I guess its easy now for us to be horrified or shock because we've been lucky to get more freedom but still the issue remains even today.
Gayatri and Hema could see the upcoming storm, but when their own husbands were turning a blind eye to it, they could only stare at the approaching storm. Here Gayatri has got sons who loves her and respects her. Yes Yash and Prateek too. Sadly Hema don't have such kids who will ever listen to her. Pankaj is responsible and reasonable, so is Yash, here the problem is, Yash is impulsive and over protective. He too stands against Uday, but in way that Gayatri does. Here he has got his mothers traits. But in future when he will see his family suffering, for which he will avenge Aarti, that time he won't see anything but his revenge. (I can't and I won't say anything further for obvious reasons)...
By the time SP realizes the extent of damage Uday has done to his family and his kids, it will be too late. I have already shown that because of Uday's interference in Prateek's life, a rift has started between Gayatri and Suraj.
Actually it was your comment in MTB that made me give clarification on Suraj's character. Yes it's easy for us to now show our judgment on them, cause we were raised by understanding parents.
In my fathers side of the family, it was my grandma who was very strict and not even my grandfather could say anything to her. She was strict for her DIL's only.
But still my grandma was not rigid like Uday. She was never against girls education or was of the thinking that girls should stay at Home and learn household chores. Maybe that's why everyone in our family still respected her despite her being so strict.
Despite Geeta trinkets gift and good wishes, that will not prevent the sons' downfall, after all the bad deeds from their grandfather befalls on the next generation and the next. There is this saying about reaping what you sow. I disagree with her statement on Maya and Urmila life in this house , cause they have not been happy there. For this reason I am glad that Gayatri did not have daughter for she would have been submitted to Uday daily taunts or neglect.
There's this saying that sometimes parents pay the price for their children's deeds and sometimes children's pays the price for their parents. Here, no amount of ancestors blessings are going to save Yash and Prateek.
Sass, Geeta does say that she doesn't want any daughter to be born in that house for that daughter would face what Urmila and Maya faced growing up.
As for Urmila, well bitterness and deep hate change her to this hard, unforgiving woman, should she have forgot and forgive probably not, but to become about one goal, vengeance against her brother well that extreme and not good at all.
Sass, from MTB days, I have been saying this that I strongly believe that it's circumstances that makes or breaks a person. Since she was a kid, Urmila was ignored by her own father and brother. The ones who should have been her protectors became her arch enemies. Because of them she lost her dignity, her honor and her husband. Uday got everything in life so easily while she had to fight and steal for those very things yet still she never got them. That is what made her so vengeful.
The youngsters are showing signs of the elders due to bad raising; now I see why Prateek is headed for a bad path (agree with Sharlene feedback on him) and Yash excessive ego will make him take bad actions and be unforgiving and so wrong. The fact that Urmila deliberately raise her child as weapon against Uday is horrible. In the end she is the one suffering more cause so far Uday is winning this battle. By the way the details you have added regarding Vidhi make much more sense now.
Prateek is also very young here. He is going in the direction where his grandfather is pushing him. Like is replied to one reader, here Prateek is also Gayatri's son, so he can't be that bad. Neither can be Yash. That's all I can say about their characters right now.
Urmila is deliberately raising her grandkids to be vengeful towards Sindhia's. Whereas Gayatri is still trying her best to instill good values in her sons. That is why Yash (and Prateek also) loves Vidhi so much. That's why Yash made sure that Vidhi gets married to Pankaj. Here I will give him and Prateek benefits of the doubts,
I am not looking forward to the next set of chapters cause of the upcoming intense drama which will hurt of course, but at the same time, well I want to known more. I know I am of two mind but its probably a sign of a great story. ππΌ
Ah! I have now scared away one more reade, like Mario. But I guess you are stronger than her (Shh! Don't tell her. It's our secret π). I know she will read this comment that's why I said this π
