Eijaz Khan says he is undeterred by the period of struggle; adds he wants to juggle TV with films
aving returned to TV after almost five years, Eijaz Khan has now vowed never to stick to just one medium " he wants to continue to pursue a career in both TV and films with equal zest. But with his stint in Punar Vivaah 2 coming to an end as the show goes off air this month, the actor is upset about rumours that it is being pulled off due to low ratings. In this interview, he clears the air around that speculation. He also tells us about his long-distance relationship.
Your second innings on TV, with Diya Aur Baati Hum (DABH) and Punar Vivaah 2 (PV), has given you good visibility.
DABH was a good experience. And when I took on PV in August, I knew it wasn't faring as expected, but I love being the underdog and taking on a challenge. As far as my innings, I don't know how many I've had till now. Now that PV is ending, it's unfair to say that low ratings were the reason. When I entered, they were low; today
we have doubled that figure. I have no regrets. But now I've made up my mind to juggle different mediums. Doing a TV show gives you a lot of much visibility. But in films, one gets to experiment with various roles.
How did it feel to return to TV after five years?
I felt transformed in some way. I was away for a long time and some of my films didn't release or was delayed. I accepted that everything that happens is for a reason.
You play the lead for the first time in Lucky Kabootar. How does it feel?
It's a different high to have your own songs to dance to. But I'll also get the brickbats if it doesn't work.
You have been dating Natalie (Di Luccio; singer) for two years. Any plans of getting married?
I'll be going to her hometown in Canada in December will spend Christmas with her family. As for marriage, I've conveyed to her parents that I have honourable intentions. We'll take one step at a time.
