You nailed it. I've been thinking the same thing but I thought maybe I missed something on the show.
The story so far is ridiculous. Nothing on the show makes any sense. They better get this derailed train on track before everyone loses interest.
The only reason I keep up with this nonsense is because of the leads and in the hope that they will actually fix this butchered story. 🤢

Enigma,

You have a good point. But which TV serial has either a realistic story or realistic characters regardless of whether the show is top rated, average or below average. Some serials do start with a realistic theme, but within months (if not few weeks) descend into something that nobody can relate to. However, the difference in a good show and bad show is the direction/execution/editing/script (etc.) along with good actors that can either connect viewers to a show or not.

Here, the actors are all good and have past record to show that they can deliver. Karan and Rubina have been part of Zee's highly hit shows in last 2-3 years and so have already an existing fan base. The theme too is not bad - that of people moving on even if they are separated from past love due to circumstances. They want to show that a woman may not always break another woman's home and can actually act as a glue in a broken marriage. That people can still feel love for somebody and yet can build a life without that person. The theme is not bad.

The problem is with execution and script. They started with a time line that is pretty long and requires explanation for the actions of all three characters. But the CVs have not given any time to build these three main characters. As a result, the actions of all 3 characters are coming out to be highly unrealistic to viewers. Instead of showing a backstory or building logic, they have straight away moved into melodrama. Also, the two characters - Divya and Raj have very good chemistry with each other. So the makers seem to be obsessed of not showing their emotional scenes together because then viewers may start rooting for them and spoil their theme. As a result, the scenes between them are coming out to be rather disjointed. On top of that, they have shown that Sarita comes from a secure background and is only tolerating abuse because of her immense love for Raj. Without any backstory to explain her character, her actions are also making her seem a messed up character. She is coming across as this desperate, clingy woman who would use hook or crook to make a guy lover her. Probably that is the intent and they would later on show her getting some enlightenment that one should not destroy one's life for anybody. But so far that is not coming across to viewers and hence it is getting hard to connect to her.

As far as abuse is concerned, it seems that abuse of a main character does bring ratings in TV world. There are many shows where this kind of language and abuse is shown. Some of them have been highly rated. The abuse is to create a lot of sympathy for a character so that audience root for that character to become successful. Here the abuse of Sarita is meant to invoke a lot of sympathy for her. However, abuse in one-dimensional way only turns off audience and that is what Kamla's abuse of Sarita is coming across.

Kamla is actually a complex character who herself is being abused by both her mother-in-law and husband constantly and is repeating the same behavior with Sarita. Unfortunately, the CVs are intent on showing her as a one-dimensional character because of their obsession with their theme - a new hope. Instead if they show Kamla's behavior as a cycle of abuse, then viewers would understand this behavior better. She was abused by her mother-in-law and husband and now she is repeating the same cycle with her daughter-in-law.

They feel the more they show abuse of Sarita, the more audience would want a new hope for her. The question is will audience stick that long to see the new hope if they cannot connect with these characters.

@ Angie: Yes, the biggest problem seems to be with the execution of the script and the way these characters are shown. It is hard to sympathize with the characters.

I also feel that people generally forget the distinction between the actors and the characters they are playing. If anything, both Raj and Divya are highly flawed and so is Sarita. As much as I like Karan and Rubina as actors, I'm sorry but objectively speaking, it is hard to connect with the characters they are playing. The same is true for Srishty's character.

Although I do sympathize with Sarita, it is a bit of a stretch to think that a woman would tolerate this utter crap at the hands of her in-laws and her husband for 10 long years. Remember that Sarita has put up with crap at the hands of her in-laws (VERBAL) and her husband (SILENT and more PAINFUL) too.

One thing I thought I'll mention. Why is it that Sarita has to sleep on the floor for 10 long years? Why couldn't Raj do it? Ridiculous, Isn't it? I know several PV2ians will give the argument that perhaps Sarita was the one who volunteered to do it. Come on. Couldn't Raj at least say "We can't live like husband and wife. But, you don't need to sleep on the floor".

Hari no offense and i think viewers do not need to sanction their nonsense . Muhdhikhai is a ritual which is done when a new bride comes . perhaps this PH is trying to bring some progressive changes in the society . really very innovative ideas and dialogues . Till now have not seen any show of this PH , but had some glimpses of SP show where also going on this kind of nonsense . Whether one is celebrity or not , nobody comes in doli , there are cars .

I agree with your above line , it was told me sometime back when i used to get irritated with crap , that one should not use mind when watching Hindi shows as makers think , viewers are dumb. Whatever nonsense they will show , viewers will go for .
