Creatives - Amazing or What?
So all of us are waiting to get answers as to what made these characters behave like this for 10 years. Among all three characters, Divya's character is more justified even though there are questions about her too. Raj is the least defined character where he is complex, but it is hard to connect to him because so little makes sense about his behavior.
So the makers decided to do viewers a favor and provided us with a confrontation between Divya and Raj. Now in the confrontation, most of us wanted answers to three crucial questions -
1. Did Divya not tell him about her responsibilites and/or not accepted his offer to share her problems?
2. Why did he marry Sarita and expects Divya to think that he waited for her?
3. Why did Divya have expectations that Raj would wait for her? Did she tell him to do so? IF yes, why did she not contact him even once?
Well, they provided us answers or skipped some, but Raj and Divya have no more complaints left. So I guess this is the answer as provided to us in last two days. All I can say is:
Khoda pahad and nikla chuha aur vo bhi mara hua.
Literal Translation: You dig a mountain and find a rat and that too a dead one. Or the similar phrase in English would be "Much Ado About Nothing".
So it seems based on these two episodes,
1. Divya did tell him about her responsibilites. He did not offer to share anything with her. But expected her to choose him over her siblings who were minor and helpless.
3. Divya expected him to wait because that's what true love does. And this expectation helped her to survive in a harsh new world (Can accept this about clinging to an illusion. So ok with this). That she was faithful to him because she did not affairs and did not marry? (Fair enough because she is a public figure and it does seem that Raj knew this and accepted this too. That's why he was hurt that she came back, did not meet him and instead was getting married to someone else. So accept this). But why did she not contact him once she became successful. She did not have wait for 7 years to contact him. Well, the creatives just want us to accept that this is what true lovers do. Sorry not buying this last one at all.
2. Now coming back to Raj's reasons, he got emotionally blackmailed by the father. But did he not know the father and his selfishness? Why is he then estranged from his mother if it was not her fault that he was forced into the marriage. Why is he tolerating the mistress and have no problem sitting with her on the same table. From the precap, it doesn't seem that he wants Divya to be his mistress. Even though he is 10 years too late, he is thinking of giving a divorce to Sarita and getting her married to a suitable person before settling with Divya. So why would he tolerate abuse of Sarita (if it was not Sarita's fault in getting married to him) and why is tolerating all the crap that is thrown against his mother?
How could they have shown the story logically?
They could have easily explained everything logically. Instead the creatives chose to give this. They could have shown that father was having an affair with Sundari and was threatening to bring Sundari as the mistress in his house because he controlled the purse strings and has house in his name. Then they could have shown Raj succumbing to this blackmail and marrying Sarita whose father was giving a lot of dowry for this marriage. Then they could have shown that Sohan Lal broke his word and did bring Sundari to home. Raj rebelled and instead mother sided with Sohan Lal to protect her position as buttering is the way she does that. So Raj felt betrayed by both parents and he washed his hands of them. So he is living there, but doesn't care how they live. They could have shown that his neglect of Sarita is his feelings of resentment against Sohan Lal who sold him to Sarita's father. Probably they also were able to get contracts that increased their whole sale business because of that wedding. So he is indirectly punishing Sarita because he wants to punish his parents. That way they don't get the grandson (heir) whom they want desperately. It would be wrong to punish an innocent girl for someone else's crimes, but at least that were his reasons.
Then they could have shown his anger at Divya because he asked Divya to marry him so that he can also help her. But Divya refused because she being a traditional girl and pride did not want to take his help for siblings. But he was insisting and so she decided to leave for a different city (in hiding as he was too persistent). So he also blames her because he was always aloof from his family and she was his emotional anchor and she left him. So his personality went a change because one person he relied on in his life also abandoned him and did not contact him.
Now with the backstory provided so far, his detachment from mother's problems and uncaring non-understanding of Divya's problems is coming across as very selfish. I cannot feel any sympathy for such a character who only thinks about himself and has no empathy for a person whom he claims to love so intensely. That he can be so passive about an abuse of another girl in his house.
Finally, now I don't expect any explaination of Sarita or her family will be much better. So we are supposed to accept that Sarita's family is so uncaring as not even figure out that she is unhappy. Or that Sarita fell so badly for Raj and marraige is so sacred that a woman (no matter how rich or having supportive parents) must endure the abuse because afterall the marriage cannot be broken.
Now to the rest of questions that may never be answered.
1. Why was Sarita so apprehensive of Divya coming to their house in front of Sohan Lal. Sohan Lal did not know about Divya and has no problems if Raj has numerous affairs or even bring another woman. HIs requirements are that the second marriage should be to his benefit. So any answers to this question?
2. Why did Raj flip when somebody brought up Divya and why is nobody even thinking of that now?
3. Are we supposed to think that Raj has fallen for Sarita because he did not like Divya bringing up her death or saying that they can marry after Sarita's death. Anybody with humanity will react with repulsion at these comments. It does not mean that Raj has fallen for Sarita. So why does Divya think that this implies that Raj has feelings for Sarita?
4. Why do we have to watch everyday monologue of Divya telling viewers that she is doing all thsi for Sarita . Or see same insecurities of Sarita everyday. Can they not provide us some answers to our questions rather than showing all this or showing this shouting matches between Sarita and Kamla (same type of dialogues). In the beginning, it was refreshing. Now it is just boring.
5. Why do creatives bring these complex characters from Mahabharat or Ramayan when their own characters are anything but that. So Divya comparing herself to Arjun just made me laugh with incredulity.
So it is not characters alone who are all living in their world of own. The creatives are pretty much the same way.
