uhhh no...

I am pretty sure people from America do not have these kinds of traditional thoughts. I'm surprised that the CVs said she's from America.

We shouldn't stereotype. A lot of people I know who live in Canada (since I live here) still have traditional thoughts, they're still strict with their kids. It's the same with America. I've seen how my family members are there. Plus she wasn't brought up in America, she didn't live there her whole life. Just because you live in America doesn't mean you're "Americanized" and have no traditional beliefs.

I think people outside of India are maybe keeping tradition more in tact. As they want to stay to connect with India.

Actually a lot of people abroad are more connected to their roots than people in India. I have seen the youth in India are following many western norms, when I visit during vacations.

More than her pathetic backwards thinking, it was that she brought a sari back which made me question whether this lady was even in America. Because whatever saris they have in America, they are exported from India, so why would she bring a sari?

You know it is actually said that people who live abroad have are more traditional than those who live in india. It's not fair to say that abroad people can't be traditional. Sorry to say but I totally disagree with you Booz I also stay abroad

Um that is so not true. I am born and raised in America, but I still have my traditions and values in me. I'm still Indian at heart and still try to maintain my culture as much as I can and as much as I believe in it.

So I wouldn't be stereotypical on that.

And its true that people who live outside of India keep more of the Indian values within them then the people who have been residing in India almost all their life. People living in America are more "Indianiazed" and people living in India more "westernized."

Whether in America or India...what surprised me was the rather old fashioned thoughts that she carried with her...

I know so many ladies of her age who have a lot more balanced views on marriage and bearing children...and definitely will not voice it the way she has even in today's world...after all it was the dignity of another woman that one should take into concern being a woman herself...

To still carry a feeling that having children - or not having them - is solely the burden that rests with the female is what upset me...

We need to have more contemporary views on this issue...is what I felt...

Soo true indians in India are so westernized nothing wrong in that but follow their good qualities not

Blindly copy them it really shocks me that young actors dress up in western outfits even in Indian

Functions over here in America for Indian functions

Get to gathers we wear Indian outfits for office parties etc wear western outfits

For example at the Caan --spelling?- film festival nothing wrong in wearing both

Indian and western outfits as show u are proud to be an Indian by wearing Indian outfits as Ashwaria Bachan does

As well as do as Romans do in Rome

No offence just my 2 cents as an Indian

Living in America
