T his Republic Day it'll be Salman Khan saying Jai Ho. And next year it could well be Akshay Kumar saying Jai Hind! Neeraj Pandey, of Special Chabbis fame, has teamed up with Vikram Malhotra to co-produce and direct an action thriller featuring the Khiladi in the lead, and given the subject's patriotic hues, the date seems apt.
According to a source close to the development, Neeraj was impressed with Akshay's work ethics and the way he surrendered himself to the director during the shoot of Special Chabbis.
"After the film's release, Neeraj was flooded with offers from studios and feelers from other actors. But he had something which was right up Akshay's alley and wanted to make his next with him. Akshay, whose performance in the film was touted as his best, was more than happy to accommodate him," revealed the source.
The yet-untitled film will roll between April and June this year. It's an action thriller, but unlike anything Akshay has ever done. The source added, "Although it is set in India, the story and the characters travel across the globe. So, the film will also be shot in parts of Western Europe and the Middle-East. Don't expect an Ek Tha Tiger or any other Bollywood movies in the genre.
It is more in the league of the Bond and Bourne Identity series but sans the fantasy elements of these Hollywood biggies. It will also have the ability to create a franchise of its own."
When contacted Neeraj reluctantly confirmed the news saying, "It is a work in progress. We are currently scripting the film. But yes, we are looking at a Republic Day release."
