Pia decides to move in with Abhay while Advik tries to convince Sama by seducing her.
Pia's heart thumped loudly as she thought about the house. Abhay's house. The mere thought of her being in Abhay's home made butterflies fly in her stomach. Earlier, when she had arrived an hour ago, she had felt anticipation build up in her stomach" anticipation mixed with excitement. But no second thoughts on them living together! That she would never have, she knew. If there was one thing she was sure of, it was Abhay. He had now left her alone to freshen up, and as she turned on the shower in the bathroom, his bathroom, a slight smile curved the corners of her mouth. She could tell that he was trying to ease her up a bit, and the thought made her heart swell with even more love for him. How wrong she had been in judging him when she had first met him, she mused. He was so different from what he showed himself to be. That rude heartless person existed only on the surface. To her, he was everything wonderful she had ever dreamed of.
A little while later she emerged from the bathroom, dressed in a light purple bathrobe, and started to dry her shampooed hair with a towel. The thought of Abhay made her smile again, her eyes closing in contentment. She was smiling a lot these days, she realized. And he was the reason.
A touch on her shoulders made her jump. Before she could turn around, she could feel hot breath on her still wet neck, making a shiver run down her spine.
"Abhay.." she almost sighed, the towel falling from her almost limp fingers as she leaned back to savour his touch.
"You smell so wonderful, I could ravish you right here, right now" he whispered huskily, making her tremble. He slowly turned her around to face him, drinking in everything about her, flushed cheeks, the inviting lips, the warm brown eyes now lowered in shyness, encased by elegant eyelashes, the stray tendril plastered to her left cheek, everything. "You have no idea what you do to me Pia."
Pia looked up at him then, a smile blooming slowly on her lips, a smile which tugged at the heart he had so long believed to be dead. He raised his hand and traced her face slowly with his index finger, his eyes burning with the passion and love he felt for her. She clutched at his collars tightly, her eyes closing at his touch, her heart starting to gallop even faster.
Reluctantly he moved away, making her look at him again.
"I won't be able to stop if I continue now" he confessed, still looking right at her, "and continue I will" he smirked slightly, making her blush all over again, "but right now, I want to show you something." He caught hold of her right hand with his left, their fingers entwining automatically. "Come."
"Abhay.." Pia protested, "Let me dress up, I've just had a bath and..."
"What?" he said, pausing to look at her again, one eyebrow raised. "You look perfect."
Pia's mind lost all coherent thoughts as he saw the love in his eyes. Before she could assemble her stray thoughts together, he had started to walk, pulling her with him, although gently.
"Abhay, where..."
"You'll see."
He led her towards the back of the house and she gasped. He had brought her to a garden, a beautiful flowering garden, with vibrant coloured flowers everywhere. Trees also grew there, tall and proud. And in one place the trees and flowers all cleared to create a canopy where shadows and sunlight played together and where a gazebo stood, its pillars covered with creepers and ivy.
"It's beautiful" gasped Pia.
"Just like you" said Abhay, in a tender voice. He turned Pia to make her look at him. "This was just a place overgrown with weeds and stuff" He shrugged. "A place fit for someone like me. But when you were coming, I realized I did not want you to stay in such a hopeless place. I wanted to do something which would reflect you, you know. Something which would make this place fit for you. And they came to me, almost immediately. Flowers. You represent each of their colours and fragrances Pia. And you are so much more." He clasped her hands gently, pulling her closer to him. "These aren't real flowers, as you might have noticed. But I cannot grow flowers in such a short notice, even if I knew how to." He gave a faint smile. "You know you get these in shops nowadays, to help set up instant gardens. But if you want, I can become a gardener. "A slow smile bloomed on Pia's lips at that and Abhay's smile widened. "So you like it?"
Pia wrapped her arms now around Abhay, leaning into his chest, her heart expanding with love for him. "That's the longest speech you've ever made, Abhay. And this place, well there's only one thing I want changed."
"What is it?" asked Abhay at once, worry in his voice. "Tell me and I shall.."
Pia looked up at him, putting a finger on his lips to silence him. Her eyes sparkled with the love she held for him. "It is not a place fit for me. It's a place fit for us."
His lips stretched into the happiest smile she had seen today. He pulled her even closer, touching her lips with his. "Thank you." He murmured.
Pia pulled back, raising her eyebrows in a comic imitation of Abhay's. "You're welcome, my gardener."
They both laughed now, and Abhay swung Pia up in his arms, taking her to the gazebo, where he had already laid out food for her before.
"It's late already", he told her, "and you haven't had anything to eat since morning."
She smiled at him, starting to fill up her plate, but he stopped her. "Since I can't eat all this, I want to feed you with my own hands." He whispered.
Pia nodded, smiling as she pulled up her chair close, feeling the love mixed with the delicious food as he fed her. And he was hers to savour forever. The thought came to her, coloured with pride and possessiveness and love and she felt her eyes tearing over.
"What's the matter?" Abhay asked, observing her. "Is something wrong?"
Pia merely shook her head, hugging him sideways. I love you, she mouthed.
Abhay's face relaxed, love replacing worry. Me too, he mouthed back, placing a kiss on the top of her hair. They lay that way for quite some time, comfortable in the silence.
Then Abhay sighed. "We'd better head back in, it's getting dark."
Pia nodded, standing up to help with the plates. Together they cleared away the table, taking the plates back into the house. They washed the plates together, conversation easily flowing between them as they worked in synchronization, as if they had been doing this forever. They talked and laughed and sprinkled each other with soap water. Pia had never known this side of Abhay. It only made him love her even more.
"You carry on keeping the plates back in their place, I'll be right back." Abhay told her, passing her, pausing to give her a quick kiss on the cheeks before rushing out of the kitchen door.
Pia blushed and smiled, as she set about placing the plates back.
"Pia!" she heard him call just as she had finished. "Will you come up to my room please?"
The words "my room" sent the butterflies flying in her stomach again. She suddenly became aware that she was still wearing her bathrobe and nothing else. She headed for the stairs, her heart beating a million per minute.
It was dark, she noted suddenly. Although evening had fallen long ago, the lights here were not switched on. But the kitchen had been lighted. Then why was it so dark here? Her thoughts went back to the day when she had found her grandmother dead, in the dark house she called home. Fear suddenly clogged up her mind. Had something happened to Abhay? Had she paid more attention, she would have realized because of the bond that he was all right, but she was starting to panic now, hardly noticing much else.
"Abhay!" she called out, stumbling slightly, as she tried to climb the stairs. "Abhay, where are you?" There was no answer. Pia felt close to tears now. Why wasn't he answering her? "Abhay, please answer me. It's dark here. I'm afraid Abhay." She stumbled again, almost falling down, but strong arms were around her in an instant. Pia felt relief seep into her being, as she clutched at the familiar body of the man she loved.
"Don't disappear like that, ever" she almost sobbed, clutching him close. "I hate being alone in the dark, Abhay."
"Hush" Abhay murmured soothingly, his arms giving her comfort as he held her. "I'm sorry Pia. I didn't mean to frighten you. It won't happen again."
He held her till she had finally calmed down a bit, and then separated her slightly, still holding onto her arms. "Ok now?" he asked.
Pia nodded. In the dark, she could hardly see him, except his eyes, but it was enough to feel him near her, to feel his arms holding hers. "But why is it still so dark Abhay?"
He didn't answer, instead covering her eyes with his hands. "Abhay, what are you doing?" she protested. She could feel his other hand on her waist, starting to guide her safely up the stairs.
"Trying to prevent you from seeing before the right time!" was his only answer.
"As it is, I can't see" Pia protested again. "Your hand makes no difference."
Abhay didn't answer, still guiding her. She could tell that they had reached the landing now. The loss of vision seemed to have sharpened her other senses even more... she could almost hear the silence now, and their footsteps echoing together as they walked. Finally, he brought her to a halt.
Before she could open her mouth, his mouth was at her neck. He planted a slow kiss there, giving rise to goose bumps on her skin. His lips trailed a path from her neck to her ear, his breath burning her skin.
She was extra aware of him now. The hand which had been holding her waist wrapped around her stomach and pulled her back against him as he whispered in her ear. "Not many shops sell these nowadays, but I searched till I found one that did. This is the reason I didn't switch the lights on."
He freed her eyes and stepped back a little, allowing her to see. He had brought her to his room. Only it looked like a world of dreams now. The whole room was dark, lighted only by...
"Candles." Pia breathed, her stunned eyes taking in the sight. They were a rare sight nowadays. But here they were, numerous in number, lighting up the room in a sensual and ethereal glow, lending a charm that no electric lights could ever achieve.
Abhay swept her up in her arms like he had done earlier and stepped inside the room, kicking the door shut behind him. For a long moment, they silently stared at each other. Pia could see the reflection of the candles in his eyes, looking as if they were lit with the very fire of the love that was now threatening to consume them both. His eyes never wavered from her, watching her with an almost burning intensity.
When she could take it no longer, she stepped forwards, cupping his cheeks with the palms of her hands. He seemed to ignite at her touch. He leaned his face downwards to meet hers. The kiss was fiery, consuming, passionate and tender all at once. Her fingers curled at the nape of his neck, pulling him closer, wanting to drink in all the love he had to offer. When they finally broke apart, gasping for air, they held onto each other, neither looking away.
"Tonight" Abhay whispered, his tone making Pia's whole body curl in anticipation. "I want you to remember one thing only. It's just us and our love that matters. This night is ours and ours only."
Pia pulled him down to meet his lips again. "Ours only" she muttered, before kissing him.
She wasn't even aware when he had untied her bathrobe and let it fall. She unbuttoned his shirt, overcome with an urgent need to feel him. Her hands traced the planes of his chest, and his abs, love for him hitting her all over again. He lifted her in his arms and carried her to the bed, laying her down with the utmost care. It was only as the bed sheets touched her bare back that she realized that she was undressed. Her hands shot up to cover herself but Abhay held them, pinning them on the bed with his own.
"Let me" he said, his voice soft. Pia's heart thrummed madly as he looked at her, his eyes trailing from her face and lower down. Her body seemed to hum with electricity. Finally he looked back at her.
"I love you, Pia" he whispered. He cupped her face gently. "I won't hurt you ever. Kill me if I do."
The love and vulnerability in his voice almost broke her heart. It overcame the last of her shyness barriers. All she wanted to do was love him and comfort him.
"Abhay, you will never hurt me. You love me." As he continued to be silent, she added. "Just as much as I love you."
A hesitant smile stretched his lips, but he was still watching her, hesitant to make the next move. Pia reached out, placing her hands over the region where his heart was.
"Our night, remember?" she told him. "This night, make me yours forever. Hold me to you and never let me go."
The doubts and hesitation cleared from his face as he gave a slight nod. "Never" he vowed, lowering himself on her.
Theirs hearts had become one long ago. That night, as the candles burned lower and lower, they became one in all ways that mattered.. heart, body and soul... just like they had 70 years back.
