The actress who is shooting her third film with Khan has gone with his vision and embraced grunge

Katrina Kaif has never done more than one film with a director. Kabir Khan is an exception. After working with him in New York, and Ek Tha Tiger, he is now directing her in Phantom. While in New York she played a student and in Ek Tha Tiger essayed the role of an intelligence officer, in Khan's next, she plays a photo-journalist. Katrina says, "It's always great working with Kabir and now that we've worked on three films there's a very comfortable director-actor equation we share. The fact that he knows exactly what he wants out of a film and his actors makes it a pleasure to work with him. Kabir and I share a special equation..."
Kabir likes his leading ladies to look real. So unlike her ultra glam avatar in her next (Dhoom 3) Kat will once again be seen in a sans make-up avatar. In New York Kabir had asked her to wear minimal make-up. In Ek Tha Tiger too, she was presented as a real girl and not a Barbie doll. Now again Kat will sport a complete no make-up look in Phantom. Says an insider, "Before flying off to Syria-Lebanon for the first schedule last month, the director had briefed her on her look which involves not even combing her hair on many occasions to make her character seem more believable."
The source adds, "The film is set in a war zone so the characters have to look unkempt and dishevelled. For Katrina, it was difficult to accept this mindset as she is known for her glamour and sex appeal. But Kabir was adamant that he didn't want the fashionable Kat for this role. And it was not for a one scene. The actress is required to sport the same look in several scenes of the film. There are many scenes in which she does not even wear lipstick. But having worked with him earlier, Katrina trusts Kabir implicitly and went along with whatever he said."
When quizzed about her no make-up look in Phantom as opposed to her sexy avatar in Dhoom 3 etc, the actress says, "It wasn't as tough as I imagined it to be. When we started shooting, Kabir and I had discussed the look, so I just wore sunblock to avoid skin burns." The actress adds that for her it is no big deal to go without make-up. I don't take glamour too seriously so it was relatively easy. I'm very comfortable in my own skin."
