Aunty I've been meaning to post on one of your threads for ages! Children, husband and work being a handful, I just about make enough me time to read the posts! Coming to the show, when this show started, I felt like the cvs were portraying jalal as a brute and a somewhat over the top aggressive but the storyline has gone much further than I could have predicted what I thought was going to be the regular ekta kapoor serial with a arrogant guy and the sanskaari girl who tames him, this has taken a more Shakespearean arc in Taming of the Shrew! Everyone said Jalal changes when Jodha/Harka bai comes into his life but I'm glad it is him changing her into Mallika-e-Hindustan who understands all her subjects and not just the culture she was raised in rather than a petulant girl- yes, i use the term girl rather than princess simply because i credit princesses as being more socio-politically astute.
Every marriage, theirs on a much grander scale I guess, requires one partner to take the first step in understanding the other, taking an interest in the other and trying to resolve their domestic conflicts. Almost always it comes down to the women to take that first step. But I am rather impressed that it is jalal doing it. He's proved beyond a doubt that he is definitely the more adult, responsible and understanding person in the relationship. he genuinely knows a lot about her whereas she hasnt even scratched the surface. todays episode was beautiful in showing the two cultures come together in jodha and jalal but I'm yet to warm upto jodha at all. you've discussed her behavior before and I completely agree so I wont elaborate any further. Coming back to today, even her behavior today was really petty. The fact that after all that has passed between the two, she still asks god for an opportunity to teach him a lesson was just absurd. I am very excited to see some multi-dimensional growth to this single minded simpleton soon!
Aunty keep writing! your posts are a daily treat in my hectic life!
Love Tejaswini
