A perfectly fitting tribute to the show

Hello,
I just wanted to come and gush a little on this forum, regarding Raghav and Shradha's performance today (August 31st). I was so touched, truly.

I think this performance was the one performance in this entire show that ACTUALLY captured the essence of this show! This show was about the mothers: their talents and their ability to dance despite leading a busy lifestyle and raising kids. But Raghav today actually SHOWED that essence of a mother, so impactfully through his dancing and choreography.

Let me just say that I am a huge fan of Raghav, he inspires me to say the least. This guy's ability to FEEL and express just blows me away. But with this performance, he has made me an even bigger fan. šŸ‘

I truly think this show was a much bigger challenge for Raghav than the kids show. And he was lucky also because he got such talented kids during DID LM. Therefore, we haven't seen as many overall great performances from Raghav's team, which wasn't the case for DID LM. However, I am surprised that despite that, Raghav still came into his own for this show, AND finally managed to capture the essence of it as well!! Just like he successfully expressed his relationship with his kids to us during LM through his dance, he has managed to do that with his mummy in this show as well! Despite all the challenges of teaching his mummies his style of dancing, Raghav STILL manages to get his emotions across to us...he can STILL reach out to us and make us connect with his dancing again and again.

This performance was just so special. I am always amazed at the spontaneity of this guy...his ability to bring SO many layers into a seemingly simple performance. Just his FIRST expression as soon as the performance started was enough to hook me in. He portrayed that emotion so genuinely and with SO much feel.

And then his transition to being lighthearted/goofy as he's encouraging his mom to "chal"...as if to say let's step into our memories...let's relive those moments...EXACTLY what the song is saying. And he made that moment sweeter by adding in that light touch of the mom playfully resisting. And he just holds her hand and brings her into his memories...their memories. Little touches like these make his performances ALIVE!

And even the way he starts and ends at the same spot...making the whole performance so cinematic...like Farah also mentioned. That effect of creating this trail of memories. For this guy is genius in just the way he creates an entire EFFECT on stage.

And the fleeting but so significant feet touching gesture...just a hit and miss gesture that still makes and impact without getting too dramatic. And of course bringing baby Mahir in. What a beautiful thought, truly original! šŸ‘

Gahhh I just love this guy for too many reasons..for the way he ALWAYS sucks me in...DROWNS me into his world, his performances. But mostly for the way he just FEELS. Like he may be doing a movement in the LITERAL sense, i.e. following the lyrics DIRECTLY...but his expressions show how deeply and METAPHORICALLY he feels these words and music!! Like he may be expressing the lyrics "subah jaagi" as feeling the sun rays...but to an audience it actually looks like he's really feeling those sun rays!! And as if he's REALLY getting uplifted through them. He's feeling the sun rays in the metaphorical sense too! And same with the whole looking at the watch move for the "pal" lyrics. He is literally looking at the watch but he is feeling the memories! The time gone by. The time in this way is literal AS WELL as metaphorical!! THAT is what is so beautiful about this guy to me. That whole CONTRAST he creates. That whole INTERPRETATION he creates for the audience. It's genius. It's soulful on a whole another level.

I'd also like to add praise for Shradha. I haven't really warmed up to her still...but I have to say she was danced very gracefully in this performance. I still find her expressions a bit over, but she supported Raghav very well this time. I truly think, that even if Shradha (and Raghav's other mummies) couldn't exactly adapt to Raghav's style completely, they can still gain a lot from Raghav's mentorship. They can gain that experience of being able to FEEL to the extent that he does in his performances. And that has got to be one valuable experience for any dancer. 😊

Raghav is definitely a very talented dancer, and very uniquely talented as well. I have to say I like him better as a choreographer than I did in DID Season 3, because then it felt like he was very raw, and did only one dance form (and brought that into all others he tried), and it didn't feel like he was at the level of the other contestants - but the public loved him, so he got in even though he was eliminated in auditions. But now that he's got so much more experience, he really is quite talented in his mix of lyrical-slow-motion-whatever style he does.

Lovely post, Pallo :-)

I'm sorry I'm a bit late...had a very busy weekend...just got to watching this performance now only...it was a lovely one...and yes the only one that captured the essence of the show without using typical concepts...I loved Raghav's expressions in the beginning too...this guy has an actor inside him somewhere for sure...he's such a pure performer...and yes simple steps like, 'chal' and all as you pointed out...made a lovely impact.

I don't like Shraddha much otherwise either but yes she's supported Raghav well in most performances including the mythology one...this has been a very challenging season for Raghav but he's still managed to come up with some good acts.

You should have watched the rest of the epi...for the Sushant bits atleast :P...there was an adorable bit in the end with Ankita giving a message for him.

Hi, thanks for replying in here!

Well, I've liked this guy since DID so can't agree with you there. But it is true that this guy has only grown from there. You're right, Raghav was indeed very raw during DID. But even there his creativity showed. But during DID LM he really got to show his potential through his very talented kids. And his ability to bond and interact with those kids helped him pass on his dance style.

However, with this show, Raghav really couldn't get through to his mummies. Of course the politics of this show doesn't help when useless contestants are selected time and again instead of talented ones. But teaching these mummies his own style of dancing was a whole another challenge for Raghav.

But Raghav continues to surprise me. He surprised me as a contestant when he could make me watch his MANY different moods and interpretations to different songs with the SAME dance style. Then he surprised me with his kids when he was such an awesome mentor and choreographer to them. And with this weekend's performance, he has surprised me again with the way he has managed to bring in his own touch to an otherwise dull and uninspiring show.

Yes, Raghav does have many limitations as a dancer/choreographer but what he HAS is something that I think all dancers...and even artists for that matter should ideally aim for. He may not have the versatility or the knowledge of a billion dance styles, or even the proper technique rules to teach, but he's got the SOUL of an artist. And he's got the BRAINS to think up amazing little details in his choreography. He has the flow, wit, charm and SOUL in his dancing/choreography which for me goes above and beyond any other skill for a dancer/artist even. That is why I have always been drawn to his performances and his interpretation to various songs/music pieces. And his journey from DID to now has certainly been a progressive one. I just hope he continues to get opportunities to show his talent in the future.

I think you've used the best word to describe him: unique. That's totally it. He's just so different and refreshing when he is doing his own style...what he's best at. He's a natural at this, it's like he simply can't do anything else! šŸ˜† That's how innate this dance style is to him.

Heya Anu!!! Aww thanks for stopping by! YAY for Raghav gushing!! I can always count on you, fellow Raghav-fangirl-ing buddy! *slow mo hugs* šŸ¤—

OH WORD to Raghav's expressions at the start. lol He is such a performer indeed. šŸ‘ That expression was like ALL acting. lol And it was SO bang on no? SO in character and in the mood of the song...pure is so the word man. He just goes all out with that "FEEL" of his. lol That makes me think of his "yehi to FEEL hai boss"...bahaha...

I am surprised no one has praised him on his acting skills thus far. lol People have praised him for his spontaneity, and his genius and his slow mo skills of course. But not his emotive, performance ability, I don't think? I think only Terence has hinted at it.

But really, it just warms my heart to see this guy getting more appreciation! I think Farah is such a fan of his. šŸ˜† I love her genuine appreciation for him. Did you notice when Sushant was praising Raghav for his slow motion and then Farah jumped in to agree like she couldn't help it? lol I loved Sushant's comments too. Aww I'm glad he expressed that the performance made him miss his mother, indicating that it did touch him at an emotional level which is really the biggest compliment for any artist. :) And that 'mera dil slow motion mein dhak dhak' comment too. Aww...lol, Sushant and his cheesy lines. :P haha Gotta love him for that. haha This banda is such a softie at heart...lol and so filmy too I think.

But I love Raghav's little things like those guitar moves in between when the music goes all intense. It's like he doesn't forget that there is music too you know? Even though he's into interpreting the lyrics and the emotions in the song...there is this FLOW always. It's like he's aware of ALL aspects of the music simultaneously...it's just so natural yaar. And so fun and spontaneous too. And these things that are just innate to him. That's the best thing about him really...how his moves just feel so natural...as if they BELONGED there. With that music. He has this ability to leave an impression...it's like his moves just get ingrained in my memory and CHANGE the way I even listen to that particular song again. It's like because of him, I have this whole another interpretation...a whole another WAY of listening/interpreting this song. And he's so spontaneous that he could probably think up an ENTIRELY different interpretation the next time he dances on that SAME song. lol As we've seen with his "jiye kyun" interpretations.

And another thing I loved too in this performance was how that interaction between Shradha and him was always there. That's another thing I love about his choreography. Shradha and him could be doing totally different things...like she was doing the contemporary style moves and he was doing his own style stuff...but they were still interacting. The story was still going...thus the overall performance still has flow and connect.

It's like he doesn't forget that he is still in the memories you know? He's always true to that story/concept/emotion till the very end. So there are phases where it seems like he's musing you know? About the kal ki "subah" and all. He's musing about the future too...but he's still in the past, in the memories. And that is such a sensitive and layered emotion to show through dance...to create that kind of past/present/future effect on stage.

What excited me too, was his brain wala step he does in the beginning...while he's still "travelling into his memories". For he LITERALLY took the "steps" and actually "walked" into his memories na? How cool is that? But notice how he does this step where he takes out something from his brain? He always does these "antaryaami"/brain waves type moves which I find so genius! šŸ˜† But it's like he's actually taking out a part of his brain...those memories...he's taking them out and showing them to us.

Man I can watch his performances so many times, and interpret something different each time...notice another interesting detail. Which was unintentionally or intentionally put into the performance I don't know...but it weaves SUCH beautiful layers into his performances. It blows my mind and touches my heart at the same time.

This whole performance was from Raghav's perspective...his musings/memories. And it's like he actually let us into his head you know? And at the end too, as Shadha leaves the stage...it has this fading effect. The effect of that memory fading away as Raghav comes back into reality/the present. And the way he comes back to that sofa and is stroking that spot next to him as it's empty again. And he feels that void once again.

In movies you can show this through camera zoom ins/outs and flashbacks. But how do you show this stuff through dance? That's the kind of effect he creates. And that's the kind of detailing he envisions that excites me so much! The cinematic experience as Farah worded it too.

No wonder you're SO into the performance. You've got so much to feel/look at/DISCOVER in his performances. And the beauty too is that they are so deceptively simple!! But hidden with so much detail!

And interesting too that so many people choose this song to choreograph right towards the end of a show. Because it is a bittersweet song that way. A good parting note song. But I have to say, once again, the way Raghav choreographed this song has been totally unique and different from every other performance I've seen on this song. This has been my favourite interpretation of this song on a dance reality show so far! And I doubt anyone can top this. lol Raghav managed to do so much with this performance, despite this performance seeming so simple. He choreographed THIS song so well, and that too with keeping in the essence of this entire show! He portrayed the emotions of a parting note, bittersweet memories, AND the importance of a mother. It's like he gave a CONNECT to this show for the audience that hasn't been there all season. Despite of course the few good Raghav performances. But it's like he actually reminded us of the purpose of this show...made us connect to it once again. And his WAY of giving that tribute too was so different, and so subtle. Not typical at all, like you said.

Gahhh I need to stop don't I? šŸ˜† I just think this guy is too special. I don't even know what kind of a career he will have...I mean he's just so unique...too unique for Bollywood also. Although maybe he could bring his uniqueness to Bollywood. Not like he needs a camera...lol he can create many dimensions on stage without it! lol But maybe with an actual camera he could create even more dimensions...who knows.

And notice how Shradha has gotten better with her dancing too. And yeah, I don't really like her as a personality...or even as a dancer much either. But out of all the contestants left over, minus maybe Phulwa since she is so technically sound and so skilled and all...Shradha has been dancing most 'khul ke'. She has been opening up in her moves. She is supporting Raghav well since the past two performances. She CONTRIBUTES to the performance too I guess I could say. Unlike the "khoon choosle" one where I was only looking at Raghav throughout the entire performance. I'd like to think that she HAS gained something from Raghav. She has become a better dancer in some way, from having been mentored by Raghav. I think that's QUITE a feat for Raghav, to be able to bring about any kind of transformation to his mummies.

Because if I look at the other mummies, I don't really see much transformation or growth you know what I mean? What have they really GAINED from this show? At least Raghav was able to give something of his OWN to his mummies...even if it's not his dance style exactly. But some aspect of his ability to feel, his way of listening to the music...some aspect of his personality and his uniqueness. Do any of the other skippers even really have this kind of a UNIQUE factor to transfer on to their dancers? Something beyond the actual dance skill...or simply teaching the moves? Some sort of GROWTH?

I'm not saying Shradha is now an awesome dancer or anything...but I do think she has had SOME growth, however minor or subtle it may be. What I'm saying I guess is that Raghav is just such a unique personality that he will always have SOMETHING to transfer over to the people he interacts with. Even mummies he otherwise has nothing in common with! lol I think if he had more time, he could definitely develop a better connection/bond with his mummies. He is gaining experience slowly I guess.

Anyways, I'm going to stop talking now...actually. *zips mouth* Or at least move on to other aspects of the episode. :P

Oh I did finally watch the rest of the episode too yaar, fikar not. :P I saw that adorable Ankita-Sushant bit. lol Bless them. And their IN SYNC flying kisses to each other! haha Can't fake natural conjunction like that man! Ankita's words were so genuine too. It was sweet how all the other actors of PR were so proud/happy for Sushant, but missing him in the show also. Aww.

That Shradha's husband was so random with his wanting to dance with Parineeti. W*F? Dude needs to relax. They're all pretty irritating with their OTT-ness and useless dramatics.

That Cecille-Sushant moment was sweet. That Cecille girl was so sweet about expressing her appreciation for Sushant.

But oh Jai's "garba"/robotics? Umm interesting coincidence that Lauren-Punit did a similar concept not too long ago no? And the song "Gulabi" has a Rajasthani flavour not Gujrati. šŸ˜• How does a garba style even relate? Anyways, why am I bothering...the performance was avein. And it won performance of the day too of course.

And the Zoya girl and Mithu toh avein BEKAAR mein ghusse hue hain show mein. Man what has happened to the standards of DID? Do they even CARE anymore. They seem to give everything EXCEPT dance a priority in this show. Um...yeah again, don't know why I am bothering...lets not forget people like Sanam were also finalists of this show.

I hope the DID season 4 is better. I read on the forum that some random new 3 judges are participating this season. Some new TOI article or something. Not sure how reliable it is...but seriously that would just kill any motivation I have built up to watch this show. :( I just want to watch Terence/the original trio really. The standards of this show are dropping every season...so these people better not kill the sole motivation I have to stick with this show. *sigh* New random judges might be decent too of course...and I am all for new talent, but they won't be Terence. *sigh's again*...Oh wells, here's to hoping anyways...

Lol I really need to go to bed clearly. Ok I'm going now...be back later. :P

Wow, you guys are really big Raghav fans! I'm not as much of a fan as you, but I definitely agree that he is very talented and the way he dances does seem very innate, very part of him, just the way he expresses things.
As to the rest of the show, Shraddha is nice but in my personal opinion she is quite good but nothing special (though her baby is very cute!), Phulawa I think is the best in terms of skills, and her smile is beautiful. Cecille is cute and somehow it really makes me happy to watch her bouncing up and down. Zoya is a nice person as well, but I feel like even she is getting tired of her sad story being repeated over and over. She is definitely talented, though. Mithu... well, I'm not sure. She's good, but IMO not good enough to be in the finale.

DID normally has a tendency to harp on sad stories, but this season it's a bit excessive... hopefully it will be better in DID 4, which I'm really looking forward to. (Btw I heard that those three random judges will be only for the auditions and the regular judges will be there, but not sure how reliable that is either.) And we still have the short DID LM vs. DID SM takkar show to watch before DID 4 starts.

LOL It's really just me who is a crazy one! haha I don't know what it is about this guy, but yeah I really do love him! *sigh*...And I just have to EXPRESS it every time too! haha

Aww I'm glad you agree about that innate ability of his and his expressiveness; even though you're not a big fan. Thanks for that. :)

Oh I never said that Shradha is a great dancer or that she should win, man. Yeah i haven't warmed up to her either. But I haven't actually warmed up to ANY contestant in this show, sadly. I think Manjula had potential and even that girl Shivangi from Jai's team was graceful..and maybe Saswati...I guess? If I had to pick certain people. But overall, this show has only been dull and uninspiring. It was a flop attempt ESPECIALLY when compared with all other DID seasons, like the kids one for example which was just an awesome idea. Maybe the moms just aren't cut out for this thing, or maybe the talent selection wasn't that great. Also I think it didn't help that such inexperienced choreographers/skippers were chosen. Neither of the four skippers were fit to train these moms I think. Not even Jai...who probably came the closest in terms of experience though.

But my point was that atleast Raghav has managed to make certain performances his OWN you know? Despite having that MEGA challenge of teaching mummies. At least he has still shown a bit of HIMSELF! His touch! That's still a feat for me, even if it's a small one. I don't think I've seen that personal side...or that personal touch with any of the other skippers. Even though they are all ahead of Raghav in terms of experience. Well maybe not Prince...but the other two are.

And yeah I do agree that the winner should just be Phulwa and this show can then end happily! She is definitely the best dancer out of all the moms, no doubt. Everyone else is repetitive...and I really don't know what Zoya and Mithu are doing in this show because they are not really that great at all! I mean really!! This is a competition after all! I'm sure they are all nice people in reality but that's not what is being judged here now. And it doesn't help that the choreography of this show is repetitive, typical and gimmicky 98% of the time. Nothing we haven't seen before millions of times on other dance reality shows. And these mummies can't even execute stuff to perfection! The only 2% of the choreography that was refreshing came from Raghav. And maybe Jai with his group dances initially in the show.

Oh so DID will still have the same 3 judges? Man, I hope so!! It would be a disaster in the making to have 3 different judges altogether. Remo, Terence and Geeta are like the faces of this show now, along with Mithunda. And whaa there's going to be a takkar between the MOMS and the kids now? Oh God...the kids are just sooo much better anyday. Oh man...it's just going to be a timepass show till DID starts, truthfully. lol But maybe I'll tune in for the kids...I hope Raghav choreographs the kids. Thanks for the information! :)

Yeah, I agree, the moms aren't as good as the other seasons. Personally I think Siddhesh is actually a really good choreographer, but he didn't have a chance to show what he could do with his team, because they weren't good enough - except Phulawa, of course.
I agree with your point about Raghav adding his touch to all his performances, but I feel like he shouldn't impose his style too much on his contestants - they should also have a chance to develop their own style and run with that. In this season there was no danger of that, but with the kids it was like literally every performance they had a slow motion step. It's not necessary to constantly show that little signature "Choreographed by Raghav!"

I also think Prince is a pretty decent choreographer - he did a few good ones for the moms - but again, his moms' skill set didn't match his own.

As far as I know, yes, same 3 judges, but I hope I'm not wrong. And yeah there's going to be a takkar between moms and kids until DID 4 starts. I don't generally like those takkar shows with the kids because it's all based on jokes, and personally Om annoys me, but hopefully it will be good. I hope they bring in some of the LM 1 contestants too, they seem to be kind of left in the dust. And hopefully some of the good contestants from the past seasons will come to be skippers, I'm hoping for Dharmesh, maybe Vandana or Rajasmita, Pradeep, Neerav, any of those in addition to the current Raghav, Prince, Siddhesh, Jai.
