Chapter 1 Megha's POV
There was a phone ringing and the tune of Moonlight Sonata played in the room. I shuffled around in the messy bed trying to find that said phone. Finally I found it under the pile of clothes.
"Hello!" It was my mother on the other line.
"Ma! how are you?"
"How's your finals?" I settled down on the bed to talk comfortably. She calls me every other day to talk about her day and mine. We often talk about random things about our day like what happened in a serial or what happened to her friend or my friend. There is also a reason behind this call - she worries too much. She would have high blood pressure worrying about everything if I didn't call to let her know I'm safe, alive and eating well. But because my exams were around, I didn't call for a week. My schedule was study till 3, sleep till 12 and eat when needed.
"Good." As good as it can be.
"So were you cleaning?" How does she know that?
"Yes, yes, I was." I replied. My room becomes disorganized when I'm studying. And then right after I finish, I can't sleep without cleaning up everything and having it in tip-top shape.
"Did you know Arohi is getting married in a few months? She has someone she likes. Isn't it surprising that nobody knew?" But before I could reply she started talking again..
"Her personality does feel like she would have someone though.." She chuckled. I wasn't too shocked at the reason because I knew with her charming personality, no boy would say no to her. She was outgoing and very fashionable to. On top all that, she was a pretty good student. A person who every girl envies to be. Seems like she'll be like that till the end.
"I'm not saying it's bad. It's good and she also chose a very good guy. He graduated from a good university and is running his dad's business alongside him. Isn't it impressive?"
"Ma.. " I shook my head even though she can't see it. The business and degrees can tell only so much, the most important thing is his personality.
"I wish you would find someone like him..." She trailed off wistfully. I heard my dad say something to her.
"...what do you know, may be she already has?"
"No she doesn't.. if she did, she would've told me!" was my mother's reply.
"Right, Megha?"
"Right, you'll be the first person to know." Err.. the second, because I would have to tell him first once I'm lucky enough to find him.
We talked a few more minutes about how impressive the guy was and how wonderful the wedding would be. Apparently, the whole extended family has already met him and the wedding is set for December. He already has been invited to everyone's house, my house included. I don't know.. my mother seems especially fond of him.
A guy who joined his father's business - how is he impressive?! Even without the degree from the great university, he would've joined the company anyways. And when I said that to my mother and she said I was jealous. She was funny. But from the whole 15 minutes conversation solely dedicated to him, the only thing I could gather was he was charming and easily flattered everyone in my family. The type I hate the most. Those who flatter everyone at the drop of a hat is someone who can't be trusted. I was thankful when the conversation finally stirred towards something else.
"When is you flight?"
"This Sunday."
"Good thing you will be here for the wedding." Of course! So she can temp me to have one myself. Too bad she doesn't understand I need a groom first to get married.
"Not in a hurry to get married.." I answered. I want to marry someone I love. I'm not fooling enough to expect a legendary love like in the movies - I'm not that idealistic - I just wish to find a person who understands me. My parents, my cousins, my friends have found it, so why can't I? It's not impossible.
"Meghaaa!!!" I snapped out from my inner monologue.
"Yea, I'm here. I'm getting sleepy. I'll call you before my flight okay?" I yawned and started cleaning everything.

Mohan's POV
"I'll pick something up. There should be lots of shops in the airport." Mohan looked around the airport trying to locate a jewelry shop.
"You didn't buy it before? Monu!!! I reminded you more than once!! You boys are so irresponsible! She is your fianc and you're getting her something from those airport shops? " His mother was getting exasperated on the other side.
"Sunna! I didn't come to Hong Kong to buy her stuff. And these shops sell expensive stuff. So, don't worry I'll get something good." He smiled. It's no big deal. Girls are easy to please.
"Give some thought? Don't just buy whatever.." She entreated again.
"Maaa! Can I hang up now? My flight is in an hour and half."
"Bye."
I don't know what kind of thought to give? I'll just get something since I have to.

Megha's POV
"Hello, Ma? I am in Hong Kong airport and I am waiting for my flight. I don't know if I can call after I check in, so I'm leaving the voice mail. Why didn't you pick up? I'll be there in about 6 hours! Bye!"
I checked in and an announcement came:
We have a technical issue with Flight no. 1354. We apologize for the inconvenience but please wait at the gate and we'll keep you updated on the situation.
I sighed. Something had to go wrong.
There was a bustling about in the waiting section as some passengers went to the airport authorities to check whatever was going on and how long it will take. Thankfully I was sitting with a bunch of university students on a trip who didn't seem affected by it. In fact, they got back to whatever they were discussing as soon as the announcement was over. Suddenly one of them exclaimed, "We need more opinions!"
I looked at them and suddenly the whole group was staring at me. "Indian?" I smiled and nodded.
"Are you single?" I frowned at the unusual question but nodded. Before, I could process what they wanted, they turned their attention to the someone on the row behind ours.
"And you? Indian right? Are you in love?" Reflexively, my attention was on the guy as well. He was around my age and dressed too casually for a business trip. A college student or a solo vacation maybe?
He laughed in response and said no.
"Can we ask you a favor? We need an outside perspective." The representative of the group, a girl in early twenties looked at us with pleading eyes.
"Ah.. sure!" I said without thinking what I was agreeing to. Seems like we both agreed to something we shouldn't have.
