Aroona Irani, beyond lines!
"After Kahani..., I have decided to work with other production
houses, and not just mine." - Aroona Irani
After starting her own production house and making serials like
Mehndi Tere Naam Ki, Des Mein Nikla Chand and Vaidehi, Aroona Irani
is seen in a Balaji serial Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki as Narayani,
godmother to Parvati in her fight against the villains in the
serial. So long she was content to produce and act in her serials,
then why did she change her mind and work in an outside production?
Says Aroona, "Ekta called me and I thought that it was my Ekta the
jewellery designer of Vaidehi, when Ekta said 'Aunty, I am Ekta
Kapoor'. She wanted me for Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki. I agreed and I am
Narayani in the serial."
She continued "It's a daily and I shoot for seven days a month,
sometimes a few extra days are taken. I will shoot for two months. I
am able to manage because I am not directing Vaidehi which will end
on 20 Dec, it was a 52 episodes serial". Ekta is known to be a task-
master and it is believed the payments are not always
satisfactory. " I have been given respect by Ekta. Balaji's the
number one production house in television. I am happy with my
cheques. They have taken care of all my costumes, jewellery and my
comforts. It's nice to work outside, no hassles. I am an actress
first and I have worked with everyone in the industry. I have worked
with Jeetuji and their home production. Shobhaji and Jeetuji have
never come on the sets. It's just that I started my company and
people assumed that I would only work in my production. Even Neena
Gupta and Anuj Saxena have their productions but they work outside.
After working in Kahaani..., I have decided to continue working with
other people."
Once Vaidehi goes off air, is she planning any other serials or
films? "I will start Doli Sajake for Sahara One with Barkha Bist,
Anuj Saxena and Amit Sareen. The serial will be directed by Pawan
Sahu. I will act in it. Talks are on with Zee. Kukuji (Kuku Kohli)
and I are not able to understand aaj ke films, we are not planning
any films now". Viraasat will end soon. Will her favourite Sangeeta
Ghosh be back in her serial? "I will always want to work with
Sangeeta, she's a wonderful girl to work with, she is like my
daughter, so professional. She comes quietly on the sets and calmly
does her work."
Aroona has just shifted to a new place, from Juhu to Lokhandwala.
She confirmed "That Juhu place is so big and there's no one to take
care of it. I am the only female in the house and I am so busy. So I
took a smaller place but it's still a three-bedroom flat. At least I
can look after this place."
Homemaker, filmmaker, actor... three roles, all successful.
