The Ghai mansion was filled in complete chaos; servants, rushing from one end to the other. It was one of a special day for the Ghai. A marriage proposal had come for their sole daughter, Kriya ghai. The boy's familiy was arriving today. And the amusing thing is that the to-be-bride is still unaware of this fact. Poor laden was getting dressed up as per her mothers imstructions. The Ghai's were very traditional and had a strong believe in the age old customs. They were very punctual, and cultural.
"Mamma, kya ho raha hai yahan?? Aur aapne mujhe taiyaar hone ke liye kyu kaha??" Kriya asked smriti, her mother.
"Beta ji, aaj tumhe ladke wale dekhne aaye hai." Smriti replied with a smile.
"What?? Aur aap mujhe ab bata rahe ho"
"Toh kya huya, tumhe pata toh chal gaya na. Vo log tumhare papa ke friends hai aur unki family bhi humre tarah hai toh tumhe vahan adjust karne mein koi problem nahi hogi"
"Par mumma, abhi rishta pakka kahan huya hai aur agar mujhe ladka pasand na aaya toh??"
"Tujhe nahi tere papa aur mujhe pasand aana chahiye ladka. Tum bas yehi pray karo kahin vo ladka tumhe mana na karde, yeh acha nahi hota ek ladki ke liye"
Kriya is 21 years old girl and is ready to get married according to her parents. She was a typical Indian daughter blend with the rules and cultures of her family. She obeyed all her parents instructions and she had no problem with her family being conventional but she hated this thing that a girl has no right to choose her life partner. They were in the twentieth century for heavens sake. Sighing, she resumed her work of getting ready.
Someone from the downstairs yelled that the guests had arrived. The guests were none othet than the Singhaniya's; close friends of the ghai's. Ranvijay Singhaniya and Gautam Ghai hugged each other. They were the fathers of the to-be-bridegroom and bride respectively. Even the ladies, Payal Singhaniya and Smriti ghai hugged each other remarking the growing bond of their relation.
Ranvijay and Payal entered in followed by their two sons Reyansh Singhaniya, the elder one and Swayam Singhaniya, the younger one. This proposal was for Reyansh, commonly known as Rey. The Singhaniya's were just like the Ghai's in terms of culture, tradition and everything else. Rey's 25 years old and is successfully running the Singhaniya Companies along with his father. They were accompanied by Ranvijay's masi (aunt).
After they exchanged greetings and few pleasentaries, payal spoke
"Ab Kriya ko bhi bula di jiye"
"Ji theek hai. Sharon beta, jao apni di ko leke aao" smriti said to Sharon. Sharon Ghai, the youngest in the family and the naughtiest too. She would play pranks on everyone and Kriya used to cover up her mistakes. They were sisters plus best friends. They had another sibling, vicky. He was the middle one;younger than Kriya and elder than Sharon by two minutes. Sharon and vicky were fraternal twins. Kriya's grand mother favoured only vicky and Sharon. Being an orthodox lady, she wanted the first child to be a boy but Kriya was born. Hence she had a dislike towards Kriya. She didn't have any problem with Sharon because she was the youngest of all. Sharon, Swayam and vicky knew each other since they studied in the same college and same class. Sharon's complete opposite to Kriya. She's a girl with modern thoughts, different from that of her family's. She left her home in a churidar but before she reaches college, she turns in to a girl next door, wearing jeans, frocks etc. As she saw Swayam entering she pleaded him with her eyes not to disclose this secret of hers in front of her parents.
Soon, Kriya descended the stairs along with Sharon. Kriya was highly nervous. Swayam nudged Rey to have a look at Kriya. Kriya was clad in a golden anarkali, looking just like an angel. Their eyes met. Rey could clearly observe the high voltage of nervousness in her eyes.
Kriya sat beside her mother and the others praised her for her beauty.
"Bahut sundar lag rahi ho tum" said payal. Kriya just smiled in return. Like the custom proceeds, Kriya brought tea for everyone. While passing the cup to Rey, mistakenly Sharon nudged Kriya and the whole cup emptied on Rey's shirt.
"I'm sorry...maaf kar dijiye...galti se ho gaya...sorry sorry" Kriya spoke worriedly while wiping his shirt with a tissue.
"Lo, abhi se yeh haal hai toh shaadi ke baad kya karegi yeh ladki" said the massi sarcastically.
Kriya looked towards everyone apologetically and her mother blinked her eyes assuring her that it's fine while her dadi flared at her. On seeing this vicky squeezed Kriya's hand and passed a smile at her.
"Koi nahi, ho jata hai aisa. Tum Rey ko washroom le jao" said payal. Kriya took Rey upstairs to her room. While Rey was inside the washroom Kriya was busy muttering curses to herself. She was so engrossed in herself that she didn't notice, Rey standing at a distance from her.
"Jhali hai tu ek dum. Rey kya sochenge tere baare mein. Ek kaam theek se nahi kar sakti yeh ladki, yehi sochenge vo" Rey chuckled on hearing this.
"Tum cute ho" he said making her yank in her place.
"Sorry, vo aapki shirt" Kriya said biting her lower lip.
"It's okay" saying this Rey left followed by Kriya.
"Rey beta, aapko Kriya kaisi lagi?" Gautam asked him after a while. Kriya was waiting with a baited breath to listen to his answer.
"Mujhe Kriya pasand hai." As soon as these words escaped his mouth, unknowingly a smile spread on her face. She looked up and found Rey smiling at her.
Everyone congratulated each other and fed sweets to each other.
"Ek baar, di se toh puch lijiye unhe Rey jiju kaise lage" Sharon said gaining everyone's attention. The elders looked at in disbelief. Gautam indicated smriti, to shut Sharon's mouth.
"ArRey Sharon, Kriya ko upar leke jao" said smriti. Sharon was about to argue but again smriti spoke "Sharon jao". This time smriti was stern.
"Ek minute aunty, mujhe Kriya se kuch puchna hai" Rey said stopping Kriya in her tracks. Everyone wondered what he wanted to ask now after the relation was finalized.
"Kriya kya mein tumhe pasand hu" Rey asked her surprising everyone. Kriya looked at her parents who indicated her to say yes. Her dadi made a face at her disheartening her. She closed her eyes for a minute and then spoke "aap mujhe ache lagte hai." She was looking down but what she said she truly meant it. Sharon amd Kriya heeded upstairs.
After a while, vicky approached his sisters.
"Di, aapki engagement aur shaadi ki dates fix ho gayi hai. Two days baad aapki engagement hai and next week aapki shaadi" said vicky whislt hugging Kriya.
"And ha, Sharon papa tujhse bahut gussa hai" vicky said to Sharon.
"Oh ho, marr gayi mein"

Rey and Kriya's life was taking a drastic turn. They hardly interacted with each other. They weren't allowed to converse over the phone. The only chance they got was during the other ceremonies taking place. But it was difficult for them because they were cautious and hesitated a bit. Nevertheless they put in their best effort to know about the other and were successful to some extent.
Rey loved Kriya's innocence and they way she tried her level best to impress his family during all the functions. Kriya loved Rey's honesty and his understanding nature.
It was the day of their marriage. In few hours they would be tied into a sacred relation. Their lives wouldn't be only theirs, the other would have an equal share in their lives. The priest told them to get the bride. Kriya along with Sharon and smriti on either sides with a few girls following behind descended the stairs. She was dressed up in a maroon lehnga with heavy golden embroidery. Rey was awstruck with her beauty. He could see her face due to the veil but he knew she would look prettier than a princess. Taking small steps, she reached the mandap. Rey forwarded his hand inorder to help her sit beside him. Shyly, she placed her hand in his and sat down. Both of them shivered at the others touch. This was the second they felt after their engagement ceremony. The priest continued to chant the mantras while they took seven rounds around the divine fire. Rey then filled the vermillion in her hair and tied the mangalsutra around her neck. Kriya was no longer Kriya Ghai. From that moment she was Kriya Reyansh Singhaniya. They took the blessings from the elders and then came the turn of her farewell. Tears wouldn't stop running from her eyes. She hugged each and every person of her family. Sharon and vicky were reluctant to let go her. Giving one last look to her house, she sat in the car along with Rey and left.
Rey handed his handkerchief to her and smiled at her. In return Kriya smiled weakly. He didn't understand how to comfort her. He confused should he hug her?? That's what the hero in a movie does. Hesitantly he put his arm around her and pulled her towards him. Kriya was surprised at this move of his. She looked upto him and saw him biting his lower lip, indicating her not to cry. Slowly she snaked her arms around him and placed her head on his chest. Swayam, who was seated in the front smiled at this newly wed couple.
Rey's mother helped Kriya to get comfortably seated on the bed. Rey's room oops their room was decorated beautifully.
"Kriya, tumhe agar kisi cheez ki zaroorat ho toh mujhse ya Rey se ya Swayam se pooch sakti ho. Hum teeno tumhari poori madat karenge jab tak tum yahan par adjust nahi ho jati" said payal.
Kriya smiled at payal and nodded a yes. Payal kissed Kriya's forehead and left the room. Seconds later Rey entered the room. Kriya was fidgeting with her lehnga. She was nervous. On the other hand Rey too was unsure of what would happen. He sat in front oh her on the bed. An awkward silence was prevailing between them.
"Tum change karlo, tired hogi na" Rey said.
"Hmmm" saying this Kriya left for the washroom. She came out wearing a silky purple night gown. Rey stared at her as if he was seeing her for the first time. Kriya looked down completely flushed.
Both of them had settled on the bed waiting for the other say something. Knowing that Kriya wouldn't say a word Rey spoke "Kriya, mujhe tumhe kuch batana hai"
"Kya??"
"Mujhe iss shaadi and all mein koi interest nahi tha. Mein toh iss rishte ke liye na karne wala tha" he paused for a moment. On seeing Kriya's upset face he continued "lekin jab tumhe dekha tab mujhe tum bahut pasand aayi isliye meine ha ki. I promise ki mein poori koshish karunga tumhe khush rakhne ki"
Kriya's face lit up on hearing this. She then said "Thanks Rey. Mein bhi promise karti hu ki mein ek achi wife banne ki poori koshish karungi" replied Kriya.
"Hume so jana chahiye, bahut late ho gaya hai"
"Uh, Rey vo...vo...mujhe neend nahi aa rahi"
"Hmm, toh theek hai baate karte hai"
They talked about everything, their previous life, their likes dislikes etc etc. They chatted nearly two hours and then slept. Both of them were feeling a little different because they had to share the same bed. Like two poles they slept on the either sides of the bed.

A week had passed by since they got married. Kriya easily adapted the atmosphere at Rey's house because the environment here was similar to that of her parents house. Kriya made sure that she didn't call Rey by his name in front of the elders. She maintained the pallu on her head in front of everyone. When she was alone or in her bedroom she removed it off her head. During the first two days Kriya and Rey were little skeptical despite hhaving a knowledge about each other. But soon their relationship picked up the pace and comfortness started prospering.
It was 7 am in the morning and Kriya was in the kitchen preparing for breakfast. Suddenly it struck her that Sharon and vicky had an exam today and she knew until she wished them they will not leave for exam. She stopped all her work and turned to go her room to get her phone. But before she could Rey's dadi(ranvijay's aunt) who was the eldest in the house stopped her.
"Kahan jaa rahi ho bahu??"
"Dadi ji vo aaj Sharon aur vicky ka exam hai toh unhe wish karne jaa rahi thi"
"ArRey waah, ek hafta hi huya hai tumhari shaadi ko aur itni jaldi apne ghar walo ki yaad aa gayi. Vo sab baad mein kar lena abhi Rey ke liye naashta banao"
Disappointedly Kriya agreed and resumed her work. A drop of tear trickled down her cheeks. Rey heard this conversation as he was passing from there. Half an hour later Rey entered the kitchen dressed up perfectly.
"Kriya tum jaldi jao aur taiyaar ho jao, hum mandir jaa rahe hai"
"Rey achanak se mandir kyu??" Asked payal who was also present in the kitchen.
"Uh vo maa mera mandir jaane ka mann kar raha tha toh maine socha Kriya ko bhi le chalu"
"Achi baat hai, Kriya beta tum jao taiyaar ho jao"
"Ji. Rey bas 5 minutes mein aayi"
Kriya came out wearing a peach color saree with a pair of earings adoring her ears and a few bangles on her wrist. She looked simple yet beautiful. Even Swayam accompanied them
After they finished worshipping at the temple, Rey was searching for someone.
"Rey aap kisko dhundh rahe ho??" Kriya asked.
"Bhabhi aapke liye surprise hai" Swayam replied.
Kriya looked at both of them with a confused expression. Soon she found both of them smiling.
"Aap dono smile kyu kar rahe ho" she asked with a pout.
"Diii" she heard two voices call her. On hearing it a huge smile curved on her lips.
"Vicky, Sharon kaise ho tum dono" Kriya asked hugging them.
"Hum toh ek dum bindaas hai aap kaise ho" Sharon said.
"Mein achi hu"
"Ha, aap toh achi hi hongi after all jiju jo hai aapke saath" vicky said rather teased them. Kriya and Rey blushed.
"All the best...apna exam.ache se likhna" Kriya said to Sharon, vicky and Swayam. She pecked each of their foreheads.
"Hume late ho raha hai, chalte hai" Swayam said. The trio bid bye to Rey and Kriya and left. While Kriya and Rey were climbing dowb the stairs Kriya missed a step and was about to fall. Rey quickly caught her. His hands were on her bare waist. They were sharing a passionate eye lock which was broken due to a few children present there. The loud voices of those children broke their trance.
Their car halted at the trafic signal. Kriya's eyes fell on a couple. They seemed to be newly wed. The guy brought a gift for the girl and in return she kissed his cheek. Kriya could clearly observe that they were in love. Kriya wondered whether she and Rey would also fall in love or not. She decided to try it out.
It was night now. Rey was searching for a file when Kriya called him.
"Kya huya?"
"Vo...uh.." She quickly kissed him on his cheek leaving him spell bound. After a minute he spoke "yeh kyu kiya".
"Uh vo mujhe aapko thanks kehna tha subah ke liyd but samjh nahi aaya kaise kahun. Sirf thabks bolti toh acha nahi lagta isliye yeh kiss..." She said the last line slowly.
"Jo bhi tha...I liked it." Kriya smiled and blushed at the same time.

"Kriya, mein office jaa raha hu, byee" Rey said
"Rey ek minute...aap apna wallet bhul rahe ho" Kriya handed him the wallet.
"Thanks" saying this Rey kissed her cheek. The contact of his lips with her skin made her stomach flutter. She looked down unable to meet his gaze. He smiled at her and left.
It was nearly one in the noon and Kriya was setting the dinning table for the lunch.
"Kriya kya tum Rey ke liye lunch le jaogi???" Payal asked.
"Ji maa"
Kriya was in Rey's cabin waiting for him to sum up his work so that he can have lunch before it becomes cold. But it looked like Rey was so entralled in his work that he almost forgot his wife was waiting for him. Sighing, Kriya filled the plate with food and went towards him. She sat beside him and placed a spoonful of rice in front of his mouth.
Rey gave an apologetic look.
"Aap apna kaam ki jiye mein aapko khila deti hu" Kriya said.
Kriya fed him like a mother would do. She wiped the food stain near his lips with her fingers. They were so close to each other. Rey left his work and continued to stare at her. The proximity they were sharing made them shudder. Involuntarily his hands reached her waist and pulled her closer. Kriya's breathing rate increased. Their moment was disturbed by the ringing of Rey's phone. Awkwardly Kriya got up and gathered her things. Without saying a word she left.
It was night time and Rey was sitting on the bed working on his laptop. Just then Kriya avenued out of the washroom clad in her silky night gown. Wishing him a good night she laid down on her side of the bed. Rey closed his laptop and put it aside.
"Kriya" Rey called out.
"Ji" She turned towards him. He smiled at her pulled her close to him, making her gasp. He snuggled his hands against her waist and put her head on his chest. Her hands lay on his body.
"Good night" he said kissing her forehead. Kriya loved this move of his. Making herself comfortable in his arms she drifted to sleep.

Another week passed by. In this one week Kriya and Rey got so close to each other. Their day started with a peck on the cheek by the other and ended in the others arm. Love was blooming between them and they were aware of that. But they were reluctant to confess it.
That day Rey was determined to confess his feelings. They were heeding back home after attending a party organized by one of Rey's business parties. Kriya spotted a park on the way and pleaded Rey to stop the car.
"Aapko pata hai, mujhe parks bahut pasand hai" she said feeling the air there. On finding a swing she went and sat on it whilst Rey pushed ot from behind. He was patiently listening to each and every word of hers with a smile playing on his lips. He found a completely different Kriya. He felt her opening up herself entirely. He stopped pushing her and sat on the adjacent swing.
"Kriya, tum bahut zyada achi ho" he said grabbing jer attention.
With a puzzled expression she smiled at him.
"Mujhe tumse kuch kehna hai" he said.
"Kya??"
"Tum mujhe bahut pasand ho." Taking a deep breath he continued "I love you Kriya. I know mein bahut hi zyada unromantic person hu but kya karu mein aisa hi hu. Jabse tumhe dekha hai sirf tumhare baare mein sochta hu. I really love you."
For a moment Kriya stayed quiet. It was unbelievable to her. Soon her lips curved into a shy smile.
"I love you too" saying this she got up to run from there but Rey was quick and in an instant pulled her towards him. She ended up sitting on his lap. His hand on her bare waist made her to squeal in her place. She wasn't ready to meet his gaze. He lifted her chin and made her look into his eyes.
"I love you" saying this he pulled her into a hug. She snuggled into his neck and hugged him back. In the same position they continued to swing for a while before leaving.
