(Chapter 8)

This Means War

"The great mother queen of the Kundra clan, the wife of the late king, Mohan Kundra the VII, and the mother of his majesty is here to grace us all with her presence", the royal announcer welcomed the mother queen with a sounding of drums and trumpets.

"So, this is our daughter in law", she gestured Madhubala to touch her feet.

Having no time to contemplate the orders, Madhu simply obeyed.

"Not as pretty as Deepali but, you do okay for yourself", she pulled Madhu up from underneath and smiled the most artificial of smiles. Then again, behind all the botulism and silicon injected into her skin, it was difficult to determine real from duplicate.

"Your highness", Madhubala was baffled from all saliva flying in the air.

"No, no, no", she interrupted before Madhu could finish talking. "Call me your grace, I was once the queen".

"Your grace, we have met before"

"Well, not as your mother in law. So technically, this is our first meeting. Rishabh, have you taught her nothing about royal formalities?" She scanned her son up and down uttering some not to so subtle taunts in a nasal voice. "Right, must be the impact of her father's company. He never quite realized how condescending the royals' mannerism was toward him".

"If only I inherited that trait", Madhu mumbled.

"What did you say?"

"Nothing"

"Anyways", the old woman cleared her throat and signalled Rishabh to follow her inside a conference room with clear glass doors.

As Madhubala watched from outside, she could judge a heated exchange of words taking place. The witch woman made a conscious effort to stay within in her daughter in law's field of view.

"You. Married. Against. My. Wishes", her voice was intimidating and with each step she invaded Rishabh's personal space a little more. "Your bitch wife is making the headlines whilst my son and daughter in law suffer in seclusion. Is that what you call justice, my righteous baby?" She slapped him right where he had been slapped numerous times before.

He did not retaliate when she wanted him to. Instead, he kneeled down, apologetic for a crime he was not aware of.

"You may be the king but, I hold the ultimate power. You bring them back this second. You hear me?"

This time, she went too far. Her heel pressed his chin against the floor and he grimaced in pain. Madhubala pushed open the doors but, the witch was long gone.

She carefully lifted his head in her arms and caressed his wounds.

"I am fine", he shrugged her away and retreated back to his chambers.

"From now on, I shall accompany his majesty to internal ministry meetings. Also, I shall be in charge of all political affairs in the upcoming united nations conference. The king needs to shift his focus to the domestic issues".

She strategically dressed his injury and announced her ambitions, all at the same time.

"You be careful I'.."

"This is not a request, it a declaration. I am exercising my rights as the second in command".

"I was talking about the freaking Dettol", he winked with lust threatening to overflow.

"Still no babies", she leaned in just enough for him to kiss her.

He ruffled her freshly combed hair and walked away leaving behind a sexually frustrated queen.

This is the first time I'm seeing an RK who is weak and a strong Madhu who will not let others have their way.
