Part 10

Anjali knew now that every word uttered by Khushi was true. The documents were Arnav's will in favour of Mr. Shyam Manohar Jha, signed by Arnav. She remembered how she had not trusted Khushi, How she had been angry with her and how she had blackmailed the family into bringing Shyam back. This means that the rest of the things said by Khushi were also true. Her husband had betrayed her and Khushi's family and he had also kidnapped Arnav. Anjali's head began to swim as she realized that her Shyamji had tried to kill her Chottey'..her brother''.. the brother who had done everything for her. He had even accepted Shyam's presence in his home for Anjali's sake. Her Shyamji '..her God'.he had deceived her for money. She remembered the numerous times when Shyamji had indirectly asked for money. She had thought that he did want money from her but then why had he never refused. She remembered the times when she was surprised by the amount of withdrawals from her joint account with her husband. Arnav never seemed to complain and each month he would deposit and huge amount in her joint account. Sometimes she would feel guilty that she was spending that much but she never seemed to understand how. She thought that her charity works were the reason but now she understood that all that was Shyam's doing. He had been withdrawing that money.

She had been a fool. She got up and went to her room. She called Arnav to tell him the truth but Arnav did not pick up so Anjali decided to go to Arnav's office and tell him the truth as she could not wait. She came out of her room and started to climb down the stairs when her phone rang. It was Arnav. She pressed the green button to answer the call when she saw Shyam entering the house. She was shocked then she remembered that Shyam had told them that he would come home early so dadi had given him the duplicate key of the house incase he came back before everyone, as everyone was going out. At that time dadi had assumed that Anjali would also be going to the temple with them.

Shyam was surprised to see Anjali. Then he smiled at her. Anjali tried to reciprocate with a tight smile. Shyam realized that something was wrong and he climbed the stairs quickly. Anjali was afraid and she moved back. Shyam was surprised and he tried to hold Anjali's shoulders but she backed off.

Shyam ' What happened rani sahiba?

Anjali (nervously) ' no'nothing'..I'.I thought that I should go to the temple. Dadi must be missing me.

Shyam saw some papers in Anjali's hand as she hurriedly tried to get past him. He snatched the papers as Anjali passed him. Anjali turned around in shock and Shyam looked at her with a concerned look.

Shyam ' Rani sahiba I know that u r worried about something and I can't let anything trouble u. u r still very weak.

Anjali ' I'. I am fine. Just'just give back the papers.

Shyam was really curious.

Shyam ' I know that these papers r giving u a cause of worry. Just trust me and I will make everything alright.

With this he unfolded the documents and looked at them. His expression changed from that of concern to shock and then his face became unreadable as he lifted his eyes to Anjali's face. Anjali was really scared.

Shyam ' Where were u going rani sahiba?

Anjali - wo' I 'I 'temple

Shyam looked at her menacingly.

Shyam ' u r lying. U were going to ur brother right?

Anjali was really scared to see this side of Shyam but she gathered up her courage and looked defiantly at him.

Anjali 'What an irony? U have being lying to me all the time and now u accuse me of lying? U have deceived us all.

Shyam ' Yes I deceived u all.

Anjali ' but why? Did I not love u? Why did u do this to me?

Shyam started laughing loudly and then looked at Anjali with a mad gleam in his eyes.

Shyam ' Love ? (laughs )Why did u love me rani sahiba? I never loved u. Who would love a pathetic cripple like u? When Khushiji told u that I was after her why did u disbelieve her? U really thought that someone would love u when such a Goddess of beauty was in front of him. I am a man after all. Didn't ur Chottey fell in love with her? Then why am I blamed for loving her?

Anjali ' But why did u try to kill my brother?

Shyam ' Rani Sahiba! How can u be so thick headed? Now do I have to spell out everything?

Shyam looked down and shook his head. Then he looked up.

Shyam ' I married u for money and then I fell in love with Khushi but I could not let go of the money, could I? So, I planned all this. I blackmailed Khushi into taking Arnav's signatures on some papers. I told her that those papers were of some important deal. She did not know that it was Arnav's will. I said that I would tell Arnav about how I deceived her family and got engaged to her if she got his signatures and she fell in my trap. Once she got the signatures I got Arnav kidnapped. I would have loved to kill him immediately but there were some legal complications and I had to keep him alive for a few days. The day I was planning to kill him Khushi saved him.

Anjali's eyes filled with tears. She felt truly guilty. Khushi jeopardized her life for her brother and she doubted Khushi and was jealous of her when Arnav was paying attention to her. She had been selfish and blind. Her need for Shyam had been so overpowering that she had defied everyone who loved her. Anjali calmed herself and looked at Shyam.

Anjali ' How could u do such a thing? Being infatuated by a beautiful woman is one thing and trying to kill her husband is another. U were married to me for 3 years. Didn't u feel anything for Chottey or me? I was the mother of ur princess. The little princess whom u loved so much'''.

Shyam looked at Anjali with an evil smile.

Shyam ' Rani sahiba as we being so truthful to each other I might as well tell u the whole truth. I never loved u and when Khushi found out that I was ur husband and broke our engagement I tried to kill u. U remember the day when a scorpion had entered our room. I had brought that scorpion to kill u but u were saved. I made some more efforts but failed. On the day of Akash's wedding I tampered with the breaks of ur vehicle but u were saved again.

Anjali was stunned with each revelation.

Shyam ' and as far as our princess was concerned'''.I used her to stay in Shantivan. Arnav knew about me but could not throw me out because u were pregnant and could not handle the stress of a broken relationship. But ultimately he threw me out and u know what I did.

Anjali frowned at him.

Shyam ' I used our princess again to come back in this house.

Anjali ' What do u mean?

Shyam ' I mean I spread the glass particles in ur room on the day of baby shower. I engineered the short circuit that led to ur fall.

Anjali stared at him in shock and Shyam continued with fake concern on his face.

Shyam ' I had to be on ur side Rani sahiba after u lost our baby. I am ur husband. I was the only one who could console u because I was also heartbroken. Am I right?

An evil smile spread on his face.

Shyam ' My princess paved the way for my entry in Shantivan.

Shyam looked around with a satisfied smile on his face.

Shyam - no one can stay away from this luxurious house. I was so miserable living in poverty. I love this place and the money. U know rani sahiba I could not stay away from Shantivan even when I was banished from here so I got some people to install cameras in Shantivan so that I could keep an eye over all of u till I came back.

Anjali was so shocked that she could not utter a word for sometime. Shyam came back to his senses and realized what he had done. He took a step towards Anjali. Anjali backed off.

Shyam ' Rani sahiba I am sorry that u know my secret. Now u will have to die .

Saying this he was about to push Anjali down the stairs when the door opened and Arnav, Akash and gatekeeper came hurriedly in the house. Shyam was shocked and he stopped for a moment. Arnav rushed towards Shyam and Anjali. Shyam pushed Anjali but Arnav reached on time and saved Anjali. Akash and the gatekeeper caught hold of Shyam. They took Shyam to the drawing room and tied him up till the police came.

After a while the police came and Shyam was taken into police custody infront of all the family members. Anjali was in a very bad shape but she told everything to the police and the family members. Arnav told everyone that he and Akash were coming back home when he saw a missed call from Anjali and when he called back he could hear voices. He had heard the conversation between Anjali and Shyam. He had asked the driver to rush to the house.

Everyone was shocked but the person who was really miserable was dadi. She knew that she had been wrong about Shyam. She also realized that whatever Shyam had said about Khushi being a characterless girl was also a lie. She felt ashamed of herself.

I know that this part was a little boring but the revelation had to come. I hope the next part would contain some Arshi romance.

After Shyam was taken away by the police Anjali was taken to her room by Arnav. The rest of the family members followed them. Arnav settled Anjali in her bed and looked at her tenderly.

Arnav ' Di r u alright?

Anjali smiled weakly at him and nodded. She looked at Khushi and stretched her hand towards her. Arnav moved back and Khushi took Anjali's hand and sat down beside her.

Anjali looked at Khushi with tear filled eyes.

Anjali ' I am sorry Khushiji! I did not trust u! I did not want to trust u because I did not want to face the reality while it was all the time staring at my face. Somewhere in my heart I knew that Shyam was wrong but I did not want to believe that. Khuhsiji my father deceived my mother and I lost her. Then my father also committed suicide. My first marriage was broken because of the stigma that was attached to my family. My dadi left chottey and me and went to the ashram. My uncle threw both of us out of Sheeshmahal, our home.

I have lost a lot in my life but when I met Shyam I felt that I had found an anchor. My life stabilized and for the first time I felt at peace. Its not that Chottey did not love me but with Chottey I felt protective, like a mother feels for her child, and with Shyamji I felt protected. Now that u r a married woman u can understand the importance of a life partner.

Khushi looked down. Anjali pressed Khushi's hands.

Anjali ' Khushiji can u ever forgive me?

Khushi - Di 'u don't have to'

Anjali ' No Khushiji ! I have to apologize for my behavior.

Anjali then looked at Arnav and stretched her free hand towards him.

Anjali ' Chottey please forgive me for misunderstanding u and for resenting ur love for Khushi. I am sorry.

Arnav sat down beside Anjali and took her hand in his hand.

Arnav ' u don't have to apologize. I love you and I know what u have gone through. I just want u to be happy.

Anjali ' And I will be happy! I know that both of u love me a lot and u have sacrificed a lot for my happiness and best way to repay u is to be happy. Shyam does not deserve my tears. He killed my baby. I will not waste my tears on him.

Anjali asked Arnav to call HP. When HP came she asked him to pack Shyam's things and throw them away.

Anjali assured everyone that she was all right and went down to eat dinner with the whole family. She couldn't eat much but she tried her best to keep the atmosphere light. All the family members also tried to keep the conversation light. Dadi did not come out of her room. Nani went to her but dadi asked nani to leave her alone for sometime.

A few days passed and Anjali recovered a lot. The whole family made an effort to keep her happy and she in turn tried to be happy for all of them. By the end of the week all the family members were sure that Anjali was much better. Dadi, however, did not mix much with the family and mostly took her meals in her room.

After a week of Shyam's arrest all the ladies of Shantivan were sitting in the living room preparing for Navratra when HP came towards Khushi and told her that dadi was calling her. Khushi was alarmed but nani smiled at her reassuringly. Khushi got up and went to dadi's room.

When she reached dadi's room she knocked at the door. Dadi opened the door and saw her.

Dadi ' Come in.

Khushi entered the room hesitantly.

Dadi went to her almirah and opened it. She took out a small bag from it and came towards Khushi. She took out the bangles that she had given Khushi before marriage and taken back on the day of the wedding. She gave those bangles to Khushi and held her hand. Khushi looked at dadi with a confused expression.

Dadi ' Khushi I have been away from my children for a long time and I did not know how they grew up and what they became but I know one thing that I love them a lot. When my son and daughter in law committed suicide I could not bear the pain and ran away to the ashram. I knew that Devyani would take care of them. Devyani was always stronger than me. At that time I didn't know what I was doing but I know now. I should have been there for my children but I ran away like a coward.

I had been contemplating this for a long time and I felt that I had been wrong. The guilt of leaving my children was eating me from inside when Shyam came to me and told me that Arnav's wife was a gold digger and a characterless woman. He told me that u plotted and separated him and Anjali. He told me that Anjali was pregnant and wanted him but Arnav was totally under your spell. He also told me that you were plotting to betray Arnav and get hold of his wealth. All this made me very angry and the guilt of leaving me children made me blind. I wanted to protect my children from u. I wanted to get rid of the guilt of leaving them when they needed me the most by protecting them now. I stopped thinking logically and when the whole truth came out I realized that I was putting them in danger instead of protecting them.

I blamed u for being a gold digger and a characterless woman but now I know that u saved the life of my grandson and for that I will always be indebted to u. I accept u as my granddaughter in law and want to give u these bangles before I go back to the ashram.

Khushi was shocked to hear this.

Khushi ' Ashram'.but why? Dadiji please don't go back.

Dadi - I have to go back. I had never been there for my kids when they needed me and when I came back I created a lot of problems for them. When I came back I also realized that in staying away from my kids I have lost all rights on them'.

Khushi ' No dadiji'u have every right'..

Dadi did not let her complete.

Dadi ' no Khushi I am telling u the truth. I want to go back to the ashram. I will visit u all from time to time but I will stay in the ashram. May God bless u my child.

Dadi left for the ashram that very day. Everyone accept Arnav tried to stop her but she did not change her decision though she promised to visit Shantivan from time to time. Arnav had not completely forgiven dadi for the way she had treated Khushi. Khushi was angry with Arnav for being so aloof and not stopping dadi but she did not say anything. Arnav had been busy in cheering up Anjali and had not interacted much with Khushi during the last week and Khushi did not want to seek his attention by talking or arguing with him. The present situation suited her and she did want Arnav to start pursuing her once again.

The next day when Khushi woke up and saw Arnav sleeping very close to her. After the first night she had been careful and had kept and lot of distance between herself and Arnav so that she did not end up entwined with him in the mornings. Finding him close to her unnerved her and she got up with a jerk. Sudden movement disturbed Arnav and he got up. When he looked at Khushi's crimson cheeks he realized what must have happened. A lazy smirk spread on his face. Khushi looked at him and was surprised to see him awake and smirking. She tried to get up from the bed Arnav held her wrist and jerked her back. She landed up on his chest. Arnav turned her and pinned her beneath him. Khushi was really nervous as his lips hovered just above hers.

Arnav ' won't u wish ur husband "Goodmorning"?

Khushi gulped.

Khushi ' u said u won't force me!

Arnav (smirking) ' but I am not forcing u darling! I am just asking u to wish me good morning. What is wrong with that?

Khushi looked away and reluctantly wished him. Arnav smiled and pecked her lips in reply before rushing to the bathroom. Khushi was taken aback by the kiss but she could not deny the fact that she liked his nearness and his kiss. She was disturbed by the thought. In the last few days she had started thinking that she could easily detach herself from him but the moment he held her close to him all her defenses went crashing down and she became vulnerable again.
