Hi,

This is my first ever post and I'm starting it off with a new FF.

So here it is...

Character Sketch

The Raizada Family

Arnav Singh Raizada

26, rich, classy, handsome, arrogant and extremely intelligent. Harvard Business School 2^nd year student. Doesn't believe in long term relationships, commitment, marriage or even 'love'. Comes from a business-minded family. Parents don't have time for each other or their children.

Anjali Singh Raizada

28, beautiful, intelligent and extremely lovable. A lawyer by profession. Handles the legal departments of the Raizada Fashion House and the Raizada Constructions. Engaged to Shyam Jha, another lawyer. Loves her brother to death. Believes in the sanctity of marriage and all things romantic.

Akash Singh Raizada

28, handsome, soft spoken, caring and very lovable. Anjali's twin brother. Loves Arnav more than anyone and is extremely protective of him. Is his Dad's right hand man.

Parvati Singh Raizada

Arnav and Anjali's mother. A typical socialite. Loves her husband's money and power. Busy with society parties and her husband's fashion business. Constantly travelling. Doesn't spare time for her kids.

Kishore Singh Raizada

Arnav and Anjali's father. A hardworking, ruthless businessman. Built the entire Raizada empire on his own. Loves his family but has no time for them. He has dreams of Akash & Arnav taking over the company one day.

The Gupta Family

Khushi Gupta

24, rich, beautiful, elegant and extremely kind hearted. A doctor by profession, she's an intern at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, Maryland, USA. Loves her family. Believes in commitment and love and marriage. Comes from a close-knit, loving family.

Payal Gupta

26, beautiful and intelligent. Khushi's own sister. Also a lawyer by profession. Works for Anjali Raizada and is very close to her. Loves Khushi more than anyone and is fiercely protective of her.

Jahnavi Gupta

Khushi and Payal's stay at home Mom. Very loving. Loves her husband and 2 daughters a lot. Believes that nothing's more important than family. She's brought up both her daughters to be very humble, caring, traditional and very respectful of elders.

Ram Gupta

Khushi and Payal's Dad. A hotelier by profession. Very rich yet down to earth. Loves his wife and daughters. Very protective of Khushi. Kishore Raizada's best friend and confidante.

Madhumati Gupta

Khushi and Payal's Bua, Ram's widowed sister. Lives with them. Loud, straight forward, outspoken and a constant guard dog for her 2 nieces.

Others

Lavanya Kashyap

Khushi's best friend. Also an intern at Johns Hopkins. Knows all of Khushi's secrets'even the ones Payal isn't aware of! Outgoing, friendly, pretty and loyal.

Abhinav Malhotra

Arnav's best friend at Harvard. Grounded, rational and loyal. Keeps Arnav's temper in check. Takes all his crap and loves Khushi as a sister.

PROLOGUE

Johns Hopkins Hospital, Maryland, USA

La: Geez, Koo! Lighten up a bit, will ya? I know you think your whole world came crashing down 2 years ago, but that was 2 years ago!! Are you going to mope around like this for the rest of your life?

Khushi: What do you mean? Can you not see that I'm doing my best? You of all people should know how hard it has been for me to forget that incident, La! Sigh! Anyway! Tell me what it is that you're so excited about?

La: Well, you know how we're getting 5 days off for Christmas? I was just speaking to Dad and he was telling me that we should go on a holiday and that he would make the arrangements. What do you think?

Khushi: A holiday? Where?

La: Well…now don't go all ballistic on me, but I was thinking Italy?

Khushi: Whaaatt? Are you out of your mind?

La: Oh come on Koo! There's this wonderful island called Capri, near Naples and I've been dying to go there. And we need a break, don't you think? I mean, we have been working for only 18 hrs a day!

Khushi: Let me think about it and talk to Maa and Payal.

Harvard Business School, Boston, USA

Arnav: So we're all set then?

Abhi: Yeah! We just need to pack and be off!

Arnav: Don't forget we still have that term paper to get to tonight. Did you talk to Ken?

Abhi: I did! We're meeting him and Melissa at 5. We have to leave for the airport at 6 tomorrow morning.

Arnav: Man! Italy! Can't wait to get out of here and relax for a few days. Lots of bar hopping, pizza and not to mention girls!

Abhi: Don't you think it's about time you…

Arnav: Oh shut up Abhi! Don't spoil my mood by harping about the same thing over and over again! That was 2 years ago! I'm sure she's fine and she's moved on! I haven't spoken to her once in these 2 years and it's not like I owe her an explanation. She was as much at fault as I was!

Abhi: Fine! I don't even know why I bring it up with you. She's not made of the same stuff as you are. And a part of me will never forgive you for what you did!

Arnav: Whatever! Just chill! Think about tomorrow…Italy! Here we come!

Part 1 - Scars Unhealed

Capri, Italy

Capri, Italy

Villa Eva, Anacapri, Italy

'Where the hell are you guys? It's been 2 days since we came here and there's still no sign of you!'
'Well it's not my fault! We're in Rome seeing the sights. Apparently the nawab sahib is in the mood for some history! We're coming there tonight. Where are you guys staying?'
'We're in Villa Eva in Anacapri. So are we on for breakfast tomorrow morning?'
'Yes! See you then'

Khushi and Lavanya went out for a long walk after a delicious dinner and some cappuccino. The moon was casting a glow on the old cobble stone paths and both were enjoying the beautiful sights. Suddenly, Khushi felt restless. She looked back and saw a black sedan going into a narrow lane behind her. She tried to shake off that strange feeling she used to get when he was near! 'Stop it Khushi! He's not here! Get over it!' she mentally chided herself. She shook her head violently which made La look at her with a questioning look. 'Whats wrong Koo?' 'Nothing La. let's head back. It's pretty late'.

The next morning they woke up bright and early to the smell of fresh coffee. 'Ah! This is heaven!' said La. 'Let's go have some breakfast Koo. I'm starving. There's this quaint li'l place I spotted yesterday'

'Wake up Arnav! I'm starving! Let's go have something to eat!'

'Ah! My head hurts! God! I shouldn't have had so much to drink!'

'Well then let's go! A nice cappuccino will make you feel better!'

Arnav and Abhi entered the small cafe 5 mins after the girls. They ordered fresh croissants and coffees. When their order was filled, Arnav took the tray and turned to get a table, when his eyes fell on her! She had her back to him but he could recognise her anywhere! Her shiny straight hair was longer than he remembered and she was bobbing her head to something the girl with her was saying. He was momentarily stunned! There she was...his Khushi! His best friend! As if on cue she turned around and their eyes met! Honey orbs collided with caramel ones, and time stood still!

Arnav composed himself first and told himself to get a grip. He casually walked to her and said, 'Hi Khushi, how are you?' he turned to look at the other girl who was shooting daggers at him and said 'Hi La! It's been really long!'

To say Khushi was surprised was an understatement. She sat completely paralysed when he came over and said hi. Arnav! No longer 'her' Arnav as she used to think back then. He looked as handsome as ever! She came out of her trance when he spoke to La and then all hell broke loose. She looked at him for a few seconds and muttered an 'excuse me' and ran from there.

It was as if her whole life flashed in front of her eyes. She had been running away from the past 2 years...running away from it all...too afraid to face the reality...she had left her home, her Ma, Babuji and Jiji and she had just never gone home! They'd come to visit her often, but she never went back! All because of him! And now he was here? How? Why? Was he here with someone? Is he seeing anyone? Of course he is Khushi! What do you think? It's been 2 years!

Just as she was walking down the ancient streets aimlessly, she felt him pull at her hand from behind. He swiftly turned her around and said, 'Why are you running away? Was it so bad that you don't even want to look at my face Khushi? I'm your best friend for Gods sake! What's wrong with you?' Khushi suddenly snapped and pushed him with all her might and screamed 'Stay away from me!' and ran from there.

Arnav saw her running away and ran a frustrated hand through his hair.

'I will make you talk Khushi! I swear to you I will!'

Part 2 - The threat!

Lavanya entered their cosy cottage hoping to find Khushi either raging mad at her or bawling her eyes out. So she was very surprised when she found the cottage empty. She tried calling Khushi's mobile but she didn't answer. She got a li'l worried and called Abhi. 'Hey! Is Arnav with you?' Abhi snorted at that, 'Yeah! He's with me but not with me! Sulking and moping and angry and irritable! What did we do? You think we did the right thing?' La was concerned now. 'Only time will tell. This was the first time they've come face to face in 2 years. I did not expect tears of joy and loving hugs! Anyway, Koo isn't here! I don't think she came back here at all. It's been almost 4 hrs Abhi. I'm getting worried! You think that stupid friend of yours might know something?' Abhi was worried now too. 'Let me try to talk to him and call you back!'

He hung up the phone and turned to Arnav. He was lying on the bed, hands behing his head and staring blankly at the ceiling. Abhi sighed exasperatedly and said 'Arnav! Khushi is not back at her cottage yet. La just called. What happened? Did you catch up with her? Did you guys talk? Do you know where she might be?' Arnav didn't respond and it got Abhi madder. 'ARNAV! Did you hear me?'
'Yeah I heard you. I don't know where she is! She might have gone off somewhere to cool off. Not that I care! Just leave me alone!'

Abhi called La and told her that and asked her to come over so that they can go in search of Khushi together. When La got to the lobby she called Abhi and asked if she can come up to their suite. She wanted to talk to Arnav and give him a piece of her mind!

When Abhi opened the door for her and she stepped into Arnav's room, she found him lying on the bed still, staring at nothing with a blank look on his face. One look at him and La's resolve to be polite snapped. Khushi's pained face, her robotic life, her forced smiles flashed in front of her face and she gritted her teeth to stop herself from physically clawing at that handsome face! 'Where the hell is Koo Arnav? She isn't back yet and I can't find her anywhere. She's left her phone at the cottage too'. She was greeted with silence. She took a few long strides towards the bed and literally yanked Arnav's arms from his face, trembling with rage! 'What the!' Arnav was on his feet instantly! 'What do you think you're doing? I don't know where she is and I.Dont.Care!' he yelled.

La was furious! 'Oh you don't care? What more can we expect from you? The great Arnav Singh Raizada doesn't care for some girl! Not even if she were his best friend! Not even when he knows that she's insanely in love with him and not even when he bloody knows that she's been ruining her life, running away from her family who's crazy about her, working herself to death because of him! In these 2 years have you even once tried to find out how she is Arnav? She was your best friend! You guys grew up together, spent every moment of the day together! And yet you treated her like you would treat any other random girl you bed on a daily basis! Do you even know what she's been through?'

She turned wildly towards Abhi, ran a hand through her hair 'I'm such a fool Abhi! I should've known! I...I...re..ally thought...that things would work out!' She choked back a sob! 'I just couldn't see her be so dead anymore! I had to do something! I'm such a fool. She'll never recover from this!' She turned to Arnav who had a shocked and stricken expression on his face and wagged a finger at his face 'if anything happens to her, I will hunt you down and kill you with my bare hands!' At that she stormed off fuming, tears running down her face!

Arnav and Abhi stood staring at the door. Arnav suddenly felt drained and he sat down heavily on the bed. Abhi looked at him and said 'you're 26 Arnav! don't you think it's time you stopped chasing anything that's in a miniskirt and really thought about the one girl thats actually in your heart? Why are you running away from it? What are you afraid of? You are not like either one of your parents and I can vouch for that! Grow.Up.Arnav! It's time!'

Abhi stormed out behind La leaving Arnav to his thoughts...thoughts he'd been running away from for quite sometime in his life now. He had some serious thinking to do. He thought about the one girl he loved but never accepted that he did! He thought about that day 2 1/2 years ago...
