Celebrating the best of food & nightlife
By Kashika Saxena & Richa Shukla, TNN | Jan 6, 2013, 12.00 AM IST

During a mouth-watering and exciting evening on Friday, the best in food and nightlife in Jaipur were honoured at the awards that are known as the Food Oscars - the Times Food and Nightlife Awards 2013.

Held at Le Meridien, the much-awaited event in Jaipur's social calendar featured not only the city's best restaurateurs, nightclub owners, bakers, connoisseurs of food, etc, but also a sumptuous dinner spread that compelled the invitees to ignore the biting cold and sample a little bit from every award-winning stall.

The Food Oscars, the winners for which were chosen from 18 categories, had the city's who's who in attendance. Rajeev Khandelwal, the chief guest of the evening, gave away some of the awards and unveiled the second edition of the Times Food and Nightlife Guide 2013 Jaipur edition, by Dharmendar Kanvar. Apart from Rajeev, Tripty Pandey, designer Rohit Kamra, singer Manisha Agarwal, Digvijay Singh, among other celebrities, gave away the awards. After the awards ceremony, Rajeev told us, "It's really amazing. I was just thinking about the time when I used to live in Jaipur and sometimes didn't have the money to go to so many of these places, and now I'm attending this event and felicitating some of them."

Like last year, the Times Food and Nightlife Awards were presented by Jaipur Times and put together by the Times Group Books and timescity.com. The portal, timescity.com, is a one-click stop for all things that you need to know about your city - you'll find everything from the best places to order in from to the best lounges to hang out at. You can surf for your favourite food joint, and head to the most happening nightclubs around the city while going through timescity.com. The title sponsor for the night was Seagram's Blenders Pride, the Hospitality Partner Le Meridien, Jaipur. The event was supported by Kingfisher.

Rajeev credits wider release format for Table No 21 success
Source :IANS
Last Updated: Sun, Jan 06, 2013 18:03 hrs

Actor Rajeev Khandelwal is happy with the response that his latest film Table No 21 has received and gives credit to wide-scale release for its success.

"The film has released in small towns all over the country. This has allowed people all over to watch the film. People like such content and they must get to watch it," Rajeev said.

"These films are commercial films. It all depends on the kind of release the film has. If the films has good content and is released well, it always does well," he added.

Earlier Rajeev featured in films like Soundtrack, Shaitan and Aamir and said: "Aamir is a cult film and if it had released now, it would have done much better."

Directed by Aditya Dutt, Table No 21, described as a taut thriller by critics, also stars Tena Desae and veteran actor Paresh Rawal. It revolves around an ambitious starry-eyed couple who land in Fiji to spend a prize holiday.

What about celebration to enjoy the success of Table No 21?
"I don't celebrate much and this will be over by Monday. Had it been a failure, it would have gone on for a much longer time," he said.

Talking about the content of Table No 21, he said he was apprehensive in the beginning.

"I was a bit scared on Friday. But then people liked the film and word of mouth spread... it is difficult to detach oneself from the film. It has a topical subject and cannot be missed," said the actor who has "shortlisted some scripts".

"They are all sensible. I don't want to do films where I am running around trees and singing songs. The scripts are content-driven," he added.

Glad that I didn't let down people: Rajeev Khandelwal
PTI Jan 6, 2013, 12.47 PM IST

'Table No 21' has opened to some good critical response at the beginning of the New Year and the film's lead star Rajeev Khandelwal is happy that in a role that carries grey shades, he has managed to surprise the audience.

"I had said that I would be able to surprise, if not shock audience. The film was meant to be about performances and the thrill element while being an edge of seat drama.

"My character is not one dimensional. It isn't linear or monotonous, it is a lot more. I am glad that I didn't let people down," Rajeev told .

The 37-year-old actor was last seen in a forgettable affair called 'Will You Marry Me', directed by the same young director, Aditya Datt, who has now delivered a quality product in 'Table No 21'.

"For people who were looking for great content and performances, this film always had a lot to offer. The whole character graph was so complicated that I had to work really hard. To be honest, there were times when I was not getting the pitch and the mood right.

"It becomes all the more difficult when you work with someone like Paresh or even Tena who is so tough on herself before she gets that perfect shot. I had to make sure that I could stand up and do justice to a scene," said Rajeev.

The actor, who let go of his successful TV career to pursue Bollywood, is happy with the feedback the film is getting.

"We are getting amazing feedback and I am very happy. This is what I expected. I am generally very critical about my own work but here Aditya has got everything correct.

"He also made sure that the trailer was not misleading. Otherwise you see so many times people put their best shots in those two minutes. In case of 'Table No. 21', 80 per cent of the film is not even there in the promo; it is discovered once you watch the film."

"I am very happy because for audience there are so many surprises in store. We are not challenging their intelligence," he added.
