Hey guys! So glad to see us on the 4th thread! 😛
I just saw the TRPs and, well, I think I'm still a little shell-shocked (and a little heartbroken). As much as I hate to admit it, yeah, the show's pacing can be a bit inconsistent, and the extension of the lie seems to have take its toll on the audience. I don't detect the "dragging" as much as I've seen some do, but I can freely admit that there are things I would like to see go a faster or certain aspects of story intertwine differently to facilitate certain aspects of the story (i.e. the 3 week window given to Aarti. Seriously, this has been the longest 3 weeks in TV that I've ever seen 😆). I do agree that the slower pace may have to do with the fact that the Mittals are trying to develop certain aspects of character as they lead into new phases of certain arcs, so they may sacrifice pacing for the sake of building character which in the long run works better for the character, even if the ratings suffer. As realistic as the show is, it is still a show that must compete with other shows within a time slot and should meet certain demands of pacing, entertainment, and intrigue without losing its heart and purpose. The only thing that keeps me a little cheerful/postive/hopeful right now is that the Mittals are not only experienced showrunners, they're also successful ones, and they were basically flying blind during the past weeks. Now they know where they are and they'll figure out where to go next. So I'm really hopeful. I trust the Mittals to give KS and GC more solid material in the coming weeks.
On the Ex's definition as a character, I can only speak for myself, but, for me, the "weak link", if it can be so-called, in PV's character canvas has been the Ex. I don't find him remotely compelling or interesting as some do. For me that's a problem. Some of my favorite characters are dark, villains, heavies, and grays. I know what they look like, how they should sound, and how they should play. But the Ex is pretty hollow as a character, and he sucks the life out of episodes for me instead of making it thrilling. That's just my humble opinion, of course. So I've been quietly frustrated especially when there have been episodes where his presence dominated. I don't watch the show to see him, really. I watch it for Yash and Aarti, which is why I would love to see the Mittals really start harnessing KS and GC's natural chemistry by having Yash and Aarti work together to mess with his head, play his games and win. The Yash-Aarti love story really hasn't started, and I think we're finally beginning that, so, hopefully, that works wonders for the show.
