Khushi gave me a first hand education today on what it means to be

An Awakened Desi

You get drivers license first, you learn to drive later

You announce social justice for all. Make it work by bargaining for the last two Bhindis from the poor grocer.

You make a speech on Non-Violence and follow it up by beating the goons to Loki pulp and driving the car like a violent maniac.

You swear pledge of allegiance every morning - All <plug country name> are my brothers and sisters. In the foot note - Exclusions apply, Arnavji and his entire body is not protected under this pledge

You know Bhagat Singh died smiling because you were there.

You love Swami Vivekananda's principles well because those taught you how to use Multimedia technology to expose cheats

Never shop at Walmart, and even better, shut all Walmarts - it simply takes away the fun of haggling

Of course i'm an awakened desi...mana ke i woke up in my bed in the US of A but i'm still a desi yaara!!!! Plus i did get my license first before i learned how to drive...got my lisence in India but learned how to drive here!!!😆

SJ: Almost every desi is an awakened desi if getting your license before you learn to drive is a criteria. 😊

I feel very unawakened today. I'll get back to you if I can find something this soap awakened in me...apart from a desire to murder the writers on occasion. 😃

The awakened desi never has s%x, least of all with her spouse. Yet contributes to the billion + population through *immaculate conception.

]Immaculate conception includes, coma inducing, mind numbing eye locks, getting dupattas caught in strange places, endless tripping and falling, ruining your partner's back by demanding to be lifted, and of course chaste forehead kisses.

An awakened desi's husband always says - what the fff..., but never completes either the phrase or the act!

To me, the only awakened desi there is NK.

He was in Sydney, but chose to return, chose to stay back, and chooses to willingly take part in all rituals and festivities.

In stark contrast to the tycoon who owes his fortune to his desh, but flaunts his accent, and has to be coerced/blackmailed/ tricked into participating in any traditional activity.

Or the married woman who is the epitome of desi culture and goes on about it while standing in her brother's house.

Or the other married woman who had to be reminded that pheras were essential for a marriage to be complete.

You have awakened the desi in me too. So I shall now make a long speech about the desi-ism in IPK. This is what Being Desi(beat that, Salman Bhai) means:

News segments saying "Beware of kidnappers." Just that.
Buying sabzi from the local sabzi mandi even though there are about 24725245645 Big Bazaar outlets in the capital of India that sell the same vegetables, just without DDT in them.
Being the new-age single mother who sends her kids to buy vegetables while she BBMs a photo of the "sabzi wala bhaiyya looking so ewww"
Tweeting a photo, updating your FB status, sending a handwritten letter through owls to everyone when you switch from glasses to contacts.
Using kohl to make a beard on your face because hair is just so tacky.
Driving wildly in the town because hey, traffic police is a myth.
Beating the crap out of two kidnappers with spring onions and that totally works out because Bhartiya naari, sab par bhaari.
Knowing how to drive (and traffic rules too) at the age of five but not how to shout when you're being kidnapped because are you kidding me? That's wuss.
And, lastly, seatbelts don't exist.

Phew. That's all I could come up with. Hope it's not offensive.
